Can’t wait for question time and kuenesserg Sunday

At the risk of provoking the wrath of the lurkers, I prefer to lie in longer and wait for Tominey. 😅

Ooh, I've been missing all the good stuff, bastarding paperwork. Interesting times. John Curtice is suggesting that the voting share so far puts Labour voters at 20% and reform voters at 30%. This puts these parties approx. where the Find out Now poll was suggesting, although Tories are doing poorly against it - 15% iirc. So, people are voting for reform, rather than just threatening and the attempt to get people to vote tactically to keep them out has been unsuccessful. Lib-dems are having an amazing election too. Labour only kept 4 council seats in County Durham of 68, that's absolutely shocking.

Of course, Starmer's solution is to go further and faster. It's always further and faster. But, where the fuck is he going?

Michael Thrasher for Sky saying similar re estimated national vote.
Reform on 32%, Labour 19%, Cons 18%, LD 16%.

Reform up 17 points since GE, huge fall for Labour from 35 points to 19, and cons down from 24 points to 18.

I thought the Lib Dems would do well. Lots of politically homeless conservatives (me) around who don't like Farage.

Further and faster? Yeh, that'll work Starmer. Crack on.

OP posts:
Badbadbunny · 02/05/2025 18:54

All three traditional parties need to take a long hard look at themselves. All three party leaders need to resign. Libdems have failed to capitalise on the Tory fiasco due to a ridiculously weak leader (again). Tories won't recover under Kemi. Starmer/Reeves/Raynor are all toast. We need a reset otherwise Reform will either win or be an influence in a coalition at the next GE.

Hopefully into oblivion.

What a turnaround those results show.

@Badbadbunny I think the time is getting past self reflection.

Anyway let's see!!

Am loving your running commentary, Nuthatch.

Good to see Starmer and his merry chums under a bit of pressure - let’s see how they respond. Hopefully, the cracks will start to develop. Maybe Rayner will even make a move…

Why thank you X 😊

It's great seeing Labour get the kicking they deserve. Anything is possible after today's results. Clearly Starmer and Badenoch are despised by voters. Would labour be desperate and stupid enough to put Rayner in No.10? God, can you imagine that!

I’m not sure Starmer and Reeves will ever release their incompetent stronghold.

Yes, it’s akin to a death grip.

Starmer is the type of person who would prefer to adopt a scorched earth policy, rather than relinquish his authority.

With luck, that cabinet will prove to be a circular firing squad.

TheNuthatch · 02/05/2025 20:33

What do you all think with happen with Kemi B? I don't see any point in her staying on after this.
Who do you all think would be a good replacement?

Oh yes that’s a good way to put it, circular firing squad that could do it.

@TheNuthatch I think it’d be tricky for any conservative leader rn. The more Labour ignore the smash the gangs issue the more votes Reform get. It pretty much drives support regardless of what others do.

I think KB could put together policies, is waiting going to be too difficult though I’m not sure.

😬add - It’s the weather, Trump, the Chinese

Last night I tuned in and a Labour MP thought they might get Runcorn. They kept saying, ‘people looked under the bonnet and didn’t like what they saw’

I can’t tell you how bloody relieved I am those 6 votes stopped that line being wheeled out all day.

Parsley1234 · 02/05/2025 21:45

@EasternStandard 🤣🤣🤣but Starmer still got further and faster in today what a total twat
my meeting went well today he’s a nice chap means well he did say as I was leaving I don’t think you’ll be voting for me anytime soon 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Totally agree with this. Reform have just gained control of our LA with a landslide & my FB page is full of people insisting it’s because of x,y,z and ignoring the elephant in the room! Absolutely nobody will accept its because of declining popularity of Labour!

caringcarer · 02/05/2025 22:01

The Labour party who were campaigning in Runcorn said every door they knocked at all people wanted to complain about was WFA being taken from pensioners and the recent attacks on the disabled or occasionally the farmers not being able to pass on a farm to keep food security.

Exactly! They really are deluded if they think people will continue to vote for them after everything they've done.

It’s amazing how much Labour voters will take from Starmer and co. Why is that?

They create job losses and say it’s bloat and you get threads going oh yeh great my job is redundant, and anyone else and the opposite. Bizarre

Reform now have overall control in Staffordshire. The first thing they are going to do is check contracts with a fine tooth comb to cut back on waste and overpayment. I have a foster child. A taxi comes to get him to take him to his special school. Instead of having a local taxi to collect him to drive him to his school then return to their base which is 40 miles round trip the previous councillors gave a contract to a taxi firm 18 miles away. So every morning they drive 18 miles to us, collect DC then take 20 miles to school, then drive 29 miles back to their base and the same in reverse in afternoon. So basically driving an additional 47 miles twice each day which is so unnecessary, and they are often late because of traffic. It cost about £43k each year to pay for this taxi contract when they could easily shave at least £10k off of it. If they do this with other DC too just think how much wasted money is being spent. The Reform councillors are going to scrutinise waste like this and put a stop to it. Pot holes is a top priority.

Madness. What a waste of money. If a Reform led LA changed that, the left would probably paint it as 'Reform cut spending for children with SEN'.

It's not like they didn't know. I sent a message into the transport department about it and his SW also questioned it. I know the Reform counsellors and they are keen to go through checking contracts and if they find them wasteful they will swap them out with better value ones. They want to gain money to tackle potholes and DC playing areas that have become very rundown.

I hope they succeed. I have a feeling the newly elected Reform councillors will be subjected to much higher scrutiny than councillors from other persuasions.

Mn Labour lot will. You can see it already. It’s ok if Starmer gets rid of jobs etc

The threads are going to be more frequent than Trump’s

I like Kemi but fear the knives will be out for her now. Suspect Robert Jenrick will be next leader.
