Perhaps Starmer will consider resigning, as he did 4 years ago when they tanked in this set of locals elections.
I miss Rishi Sunak.

"Starmer Resigns" or even better, "Starmer, Reeves, and Rayner Resign".

What I wouldn't give to see those headlines.

Add Phillipson to the list and I would be happy…

How dare they take thousands of properties off the market that are so badly needed by young people already here. Presumably labour will then boast about closing migrants hotels, and pretend they're saving taxpayer £s.
This is exactly why people are turning to Reform. Absolutely batshit.

Nail on the head.

Nice but then they may as well all go. Hopeless the lot of them.

And a liability.

Starmer will prop himself up. Full male self belief despite evidence to the contrary.

Jabtastic · 27/04/2025 17:45

I think things would have been much better under Rishi Sunak than he gets credit for. He just never got a chance to make things work plus the Tories were - and remain- utterly toxic as a party. Truss was the absolute disaster who plunged so many people into mortgage hell and BJ was so immoral even his fans finally turned on him.

Parsley1234 · 27/04/2025 20:40

Ha ha, he must have needed lots of slap to hide his blushes whilst trying to defend this shit shower of a labour government.

I've met Andy B a few times through work. He's a decent chap in real life, and a good sport. His eyelashes are INCREDIBLE! I swear the air moves when he blinks.

EY ITEM Club, which uses the Treasury's economic modelling, downgraded expectations for output in both 2025 and 2026 in its latest report.

It forecast UK growth of 0.8% this year - down from the 1% it expected three months ago - and a figure of 0.9% for 2026. That last figure represented a downgrade of 0.6 percentage points.

It warns of a direct hit from DT trade war and from persistent high inflation in the UK economy.

Government accused of an own goal through the chancellor's tax increases on business, at the same time, households are grappling a surge in bills.

Data on Friday showed a renewed slump in consumer confidence and sharp increases in the number of firms in "critical" financial distress and going to the wall.

UK growth could be 'postponed' for two years, report warns

EY ITEM Club forecast cites damage from trade war, tariff uncertainty and persistent inflation - but says action by the Bank of England has the potential to help.

It’ll be interesting to see how they deal with public sector pay. Reeves and Starmer have already plundered everything they can from pensioners to businesses.

Jabtastic · 28/04/2025 12:44

I'm in the interesting position of being employed part-time in public sector (I have a fantastic, supportive boss) and self-employed part-time in private sector. In the public sector role we got a payrise but what people really wanted was a more realistic workload and better funding for staff and resources. In my self-employed work things have definitely quietened down in the last few weeks. I think the orange buffoon's tariffs are just causing such huge uncertainty and the news is an endless scream of terror and people are just guarding every penny for the time being.

I'm also quite seriously disabled so in receipt of full PIP. I am horrified at how Labour have handled the reforms. I feel like they were trying to target invisible conditions like low level mental illness and high functioning neurodiversity but have instead caused terror for people who are really very seriously ill but striving to work nonetheless. I feel so demoralised sometimes. Sometimes I feel like Britain punishes me for being married and trying to keep working in spite of advanced multiple sclerosis. I can't believe how estranged I feel from Labour and all the gender madness didn't help.

I'm so sorry to hear you are going through this. The way Labour have targeted the disabled makes my blood boil.

I take my hat off to you. Managing a job, and being self employed with advanced MS must be really difficult. My dd is likely to lose her PIP. She can't travel unaided so uses it for that. Do you know if you will lose out with the proposed changes to welfare?
I hope the elderly, sick, and disabled come out to vote en masse on Thursday.

Plundered is the right word. I'm trying to think of the next cohort they will go after to make up for the next self inflicted financial black hole.
From what I heard/read this morning, it looks like they will give the pay rises, but insist that it comes out of existing budgets. Similar to what they have proposed for teachers. More strikes?

OP posts:
TheNuthatch · 28/04/2025 13:46

Update, Downing St confirms there will be no extra money for pay rises, other than what has already been allocated.

One of my friends has broken up with his partner and is now looking to be rehoused he had a meeting with our Labour MP who said there are 7 million empty bedrooms in the uk and their next campaign will be to get these in use 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️he did point out these were private residence and not for general use

TheNuthatch · 29/04/2025 10:09

Good morning. Hope you're all enjoying this gorgeous weather. Long may it last.

Today's Yougov/Sky poll 🤓

Reform 26%
Labour 23%
Con 20%
LD 15%
Greens 9%

Mark Carney wins in Canada. Remarkable turn around after the liberals were 25 points behind. Don't get any ideas Starmer, you're not in the same league as Carney, or as good looking.

Ha 😬 yeh forget about it

There’s a thing showing Starmer’s rating compared to other PMs at first by-election. He’s the least liked out of all of them from Cameron to Johnson.
