Has anyone spotted the April Fools in the News?

Or don't the big outlets do that anymore ?

I've seen stories that are frankly unbelievable, but they wouldn't be funny hoaxes...

Not spotted any yet. I feel sorry for people who have to think them up now. April Fool stories can't compete with reality these days.

burnoutbabe · 01/04/2025 08:49

There was a story on gmb about a hawk that attacked people. I think now that’s probably not true (I was half asleep at the time)

TheNightingalesStarling · 01/04/2025 08:50

I've seen a lot of comments calling April Fools on a story which is real...

Connections was a bit mental this morning

WhistPie · 01/04/2025 08:53

It's tedious and totally unfunny

TelephoneWires · 01/04/2025 08:58

I think the telegraph have: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/04/01/police-must-tell-suspects-they-are-not-playing-april-fools/

kind of double bluff with April Fools being in the headline.

Boligrafo · 01/04/2025 09:05

I’m deliberately not looking this year, because in my head someone is going to burst in shouting ‘APRIL FOOL!’ and we will discover that all of the recent news was an elaborate prank in bad taste.

MrsLeonFarrell · 01/04/2025 09:08

Waitrose have one

PickAChew · 01/04/2025 09:10

The problem is that so much of the real news currently makes you go wft that it's hard to top it.

In my area the A66 road is going to have sewage pipes laid under it and the contents heated in winter to melt the snow & ice to help keep the roads clear .

JoyousEagle · 01/04/2025 09:14

I’ve seen a long running one about Trump being the president.

Fictionreader100 · 01/04/2025 09:25

This one is quite amusing :

Outrage over planned nudist wild camp

Locals have hit out at a new annual nudist wild camp at Stickle Tarn, Langdale. Nuddi-Fest is taking place for the first time this weekend where nudists hope to erect tents beside the tarn.

Festival organisers are hoping the event will allow likeminded nudists to hang out together and the first 100 attendees have been offered free tick repellent.

However, locals are not happy. Amiria Butt said her biggest fear was the risk of a bush fire at the beauty spot. Another local, Dick Long said that people would just come to fly drones over the event.

If you have any concerns, please can you contact one of the Lake District Authorities on 0898 69 69 69

dottydodah · 01/04/2025 09:41

There was a story in the Mail today (sorry!) about Jon Richardson re training as a Teacher! Surely this has to be one ?

PlatinumBrunette · 01/04/2025 09:47

My local animal rescue centre had one on FB - rescuing a camel. I wasn’t fully awake when I saw it, so spent far too long wonderful where it had escaped from 😂
I’m going to ignore all news for the rest of the morning as I’m obviously not on the ball enough today.

JoBrodie · 01/04/2025 09:53

That Daily Mail one made me chuckle. I'm taking a different approach for the work blog (we write about computer science) and am taking the month of April to write about some of the frankly bonkers things that computer scientists do and also some of their April Fools' jokes.

Today's is about internet via carrier pigeon :)

Why don't they do that? That's a great idea! 😂

whatapalarva · 01/04/2025 09:55

I heard on Heart Radio that they are launching a station playing theme tunes 🤔

BatchCookBabe · 01/04/2025 09:56

@JoBrodie That got hidden quickly, you must have put something MN forbids in it. 😱

My village Facebook group has a very believable announcement that M&S are going to build a store at the edge of the village. Totally got me for a second.
