Frequent fliers were part of the Troubled Families definition...

MissMarplesNiece · 07/04/2025 14:17

I've just heard a feature on the Radio 4 one o'clock news programme. The GP they spoke to said the community health worker would have a multi agency approach so could liaise with housing dept, social services etc as well as with GP & hospital. GP gave example of child with asthma living in damp mould filled house where the CHW could press housing association for repairs etc which ultimately (hopefully) leads to less time needed for emergency hospital visits for that child.

"The reason I ask is I wonder in how many of the 120 homes the help that is needed is well known, just not there ?"

A good question I don't know the answer to.
Given they are targeting 'frequent fliers' in areas of deprivation I imagine the problems are known but that help hasn't been offered or - the suggestion is - sought. But if, as reported, part of the service is to encourage health check ups and address any barriers to that (like accessing appropriate transport) and with a monthly check in to follow up I think that must be beneficial in the longer term - but no enough detail in the reporting to know.

I'm old enough know a lot of the tricks of the trade. And it's elementary grade to make a really big fuss over a project to "identify <whatever>" divert attention from the fact that you have no intention whatsoever of actually rectifying <whatever>.

My cynic muscle is twitching and suspects they already damn well know where they need to target resources. Just there are no resources.

That sounds a really positive multi agency approach.

let’s hope the reality lives up to expectations.

I went into council today to ask to be rehoused. They were great but have told me realistically it’ll take years. We live in1st (top) floor and ds is disabled.

Im grateful we will be housed eventually but there’s not enough housing for people who really need it

Fine words. Let's hope they translate to finer actions.

Let’s hope would be very beneficial.
I did see over the weekend an article (unfortunately can’t remember where) the announcement funding for pre-school/nurseries attached to primary schools which would be again very beneficial & welcome investment.
Cardi what a fabulous organisation you are involved with the foster fails warmed my heart.

They’ve done quite a lot more than tinkering. I don’t agree with it all, but to deny it is either deliberately ignoring or lack of knowledge. Have a look here. https://pledgeprogress.co.uk

I agree.
Just the relentless negative tone about them is really starting to get wearing and very dispiriting. I’m trying to concentrate on what we’d face if Labour hadn’t got in and what we might have if they lose next time. James O’Brien who’s not afraid of criticising them gave a good list of legislation they were trying to bring in and I was surprised considering the wholly negative stuff being said.

SerendipityJane · 07/04/2025 17:01

Well maybe they should stop being negative ?

No one was expecting Starmer to don a cape and knock out the bad guys in the final act. However by the same token, no one was expecting to see the Tories important work destroying the most vulnerable in society carried on with quite so much vim.

As I've said previously, where is the bold vision and action we could all do with ?

BIossomtoes · 07/04/2025 17:01

If only they’d bloody tell us about the good stuff.

BIossomtoes · 07/04/2025 17:02

Trump’s pissing all over any possibility of that.

I totally and utterly disagree.

This is the time to be bold. Faint heart etc.

Immigration is down considerably but it's not being reported.

The Times even reported the wrong numbers.

And ?

Even if immigration were zero, I would still care about the NHS, the state of our social care system, our housing market, our opportunities for our young, the care and provision for the most vulnerable humans in our midst.

Leave that bollocks for the knuckle draggers wanking themselves into a stupor on the various reform shill threads. I'm interested in what makes peoples lives better. Not a totally fake discussion about what is making them worse.

DuncinToffee · 07/04/2025 17:14

This orange madness should give them the courage to start discussing returning to the CU, instead we get more brexit nonsense

At least Ed Davey is pushing it.

It matters to voters

Yep. We should assume globalisation will continue without the US.

Remember all the fuss when Starmer talked about those with the broadest shoulders bearing the greatest burden?

I didn't realise he meant the sick and disabled.

I really feel like I don't know what Starmer stands for. One of my friends reckons he is an establishment stooge, placed to remove any last vestige of socialism/left wing ethos in the party.

I used to laugh at the idea. I am finding it slightly harder to laugh these days.

I thought pre GE it was established that immigration wasn't top of the list of voter concerns? I am sure we discussed it a few times on these threads and others.

PandoraSox · 07/04/2025 18:03

It was a yougov poll.

As I said, even if we had zero immigration, not a single problem would be solved. It's a right wing shibboleth that acts to ground all the energy that could go into doing something worthwhile.

It's something the press fixate on, though.

DuncinToffee · 07/04/2025 18:13

I didn't say it was the highest priority but it matter to many voters.

I was just saying it isn't getting reported so people don't know.

Nothing to do with my personal opinion on immigration.

I know.

To be honest though, I think the people who really get exercised about immigration are focused on particular types of immigrants. That is the drop they want to see, not an overall drop, iyswim.

May have to agree to disagree on this....

I don't consider any of those really substantial at all but i do also accept that they've been in for just 8 months and have had to deal with quite a lot, not least Trump, which they have handled... so far, well.

Small boat crossings aren't down, in fact more migrants have crossed the channel this year than in the same period for 2024. Labour really need to sort this out if they don't want people to vote for Reform.
