Holiday sorted

Youagain2025 · 29/03/2025 19:05

We managed to sort our holiday. We are now going to Spain instead. It looks much more fun . And the times are better to. We were not overly worried about tunisa in the end. But it just felt negative with all the communication difficulties. And it really stressed me out. I won't book a holiday on my own again 😭. Anyway put it down to experience. Everyone is happy now and looking forward to our first holiday abroad.

I'm just sorting cases or bags now. We are looking at the ones that go under the seat. As we want to avoid check in. I was looking at soft ones . But now I'm wondering if hard shell would be better so it doesn't bulge?

We are away for 5 nights so I'm wondering about the 2 youngest. I'm thinking maybe 7 pairs of shorts. 7 t shirts obviously underwear/socks and a pair of summer type shoes. Wear trousers / top and zipped hoodie, for travel. They will probably want their tablets, plug and a colouring book /pens .

What airline are you flying with as under seat luggage allowance on a number of them is very very small

LIZS · 29/03/2025 19:30

Underseat bags are usually very small - think small backpack or sport holdall. It depends on your airline on exact dimensions and you will get charged extra or have to put in hold if the wrong size. You are also limited on bottle sizes and liquids/pastes, a standard suncream is too big for example. Try to pack os thing will last two wears and handwash if needs be. When do you go, can they wear shorts or joggers to travel with a long sleeve hoodie/jacket.

waxymoron · 29/03/2025 19:32

Have you got the passports yet?

Ryan air . 20cm x 24 x 40 cm. It might work if i pack carefully. I may not even need as much as i think . We will spend most of the time at the pool and beach. I was just thinking about if they spilt something really.

I’d recommend getting one checked bag and then sharing it. It saves the stress and means if they want any little souvenirs they can have them

You have no chance of packing 7 pairs of shorts, 7 T-shirts, an iPad and colouring set in a bag that size, never mind anything else. 1cm over and Ryanair will charge you. And remember if you go for a hard shell, the wheels are included in the measurements

NeedWineNow · 29/03/2025 19:56

Ryanair’s baggage sizing is very strict and they will transfer your baggage to the hold (and make you pay accordingly) if it doesn’t fit their requirements. I would be able to manage for a couple of days but I would definitely be looking at a checked in bag for anything longer.

Crispyapple · 29/03/2025 19:57

I find taking hand luggage a lot more stressful than a checked bag.. just be sure all your liquids/ toiletries are under the limit as there’s a limit with hand luggage but not with checked baggage ☺️

MagicPharmacist · 29/03/2025 20:04

Check in isn’t stressful. You go to the desk, hand them your passport and show them your boarding pass, they take your suitcase and off you go.

The hand luggage bit and passport control is way worse.

What you’re proposing is WAY more stressful than checking in hold luggage. 1000 x more. You won’t fit everything in, you’ll likely end up being charged (esp coming back). There is zero benefit to trying to do this.

Spring025 · 29/03/2025 20:18

Checked baggage costs more, we always fly hand luggage only. We always use soft back packs so they can be squished under the seat in front. We can't be bothered to have to wait for baggage to come out after we get off the plane either.

Livinganewadventure · 29/03/2025 20:21

Primark are doing an underseat case for Ryan Air, with detachable wheels for about £20.

Youagain2025 · 29/03/2025 21:14

Replying as a whole. The kids school back packs are 20cm/25/40cm. I have managed to get 15 t shirts in it . And room for plug and tablet. Do I think it would work for the 2 younger kids but definitely not dd, me or ds

Are yiu the poster who can't get passports for dc?

Regardless your dc do not need 7 pairs of shorts for 5nights away. You will struggle with underneath luggage.

Flying ryanair yiure bettet booking
10kg as hand luggage prob better option.

I can go away for 2 weeks with hand luggage only but 10kg not underseat

No that's a different poster.
I was thinking a coule if extras incase of spills.

Under seat seems ok for the kids now i have tested it with a bag of the same size. Not adults though.

Have you got your passports back already, then?

I'm confused. Do you mean we all have to have the same size luggage?

Are you going at Easter or in the summer? Weather can be pretty mixed in Spain at Easter, so you'd need to bring a couple of warmer things. We've had torrential rain on the Costa del Sol while it's been super sunny in the UK!

So Love Holidays let you change the airline in the end? I really didn’t think you’d win that one, well done!

Ryanair under seat bags are tiny, but they usually allow a 10kg cabin suitcase (for a fee, obviously, about £30 each way).

LIZS · 29/03/2025 21:58

You check in online in advance , print off or have boarding cards ready on your phone then can go straight to the security gate. If you had hold luggage there is usually an automatic bag drop off point where you weigh the bag and print the labels. If your dc have additional need you should be able to use the fast track/family entrance to security and avoid the queues. The underseat luggage does not need to be identical , just the same size. Could you fit some of your stuff in the dc bags?

It says this:

Priority & 2 Cabin Bags: This allows you to bring a 10kg bag (55x40x20cm) onboard, and costs between £6 and £36 per person, one way.

Because ds has autism we can get free prority boarding . But im not sure if that would include a cabin case. Or if its purely just the boarding and I would have to pay more if I wanted a cabin case.

Wouldn’t have to be a checked one but I’d get at least one that isn’t just the tiny backpack otherwise you’ll likely end up being charged at the gate. Not much fits in those tiny bags
