It's an obscene amount of money.

Apart from the usual house, car, holiday, helping friends and family and charity, what would you do with it?

Agree - why not make 202 people millionaires?

because that isn't how the maths works

ChorusOfDisapproval · 28/03/2025 10:41

I'd panic if I had that amount of money. Having to decide who would benefit the most from it. Obviously I would keep some, give some to family but that still leaves millions to do good with. You could do so much good but it knowing which causes to choose would be so hard.

BigDahliaFan · 28/03/2025 10:43

Start some kind of foundation to help girls who need help. Or give some of the money to grass roots charities that do that. I'd employ people to help me do that.

My siblings, nephews and nieces would all get some. Enough for house deposits for the nephews and nieces. My SC would get the same.

I'd buy a flat in Bloomsbury, give up work, and really enjoy London.

PsychoHotSauce · 28/03/2025 10:43

I wouldn't panic at all Grin Even at 3% that would be £500 a day interest on the interest (I think, not quite enough coffee yet), so I'd have some fun for a while picking charities out of a hat once a day to donate that to. All the while sitting on £202 million that was still growing, while I had a think about what to do with it!

MysteriousUsername · 28/03/2025 10:44

Ooh, I’ll have to play. I love how I don’t play when it’s £12 million. Like that’s not enough money for me. 😂
No idea what I’d actually do with £202million. Build a swimming pool and swim in the cash maybe.

ItWasTheBestOfTimes · 28/03/2025 11:09

I’d pay mortgages off for all close friends and family, and put money aside for DC, and all niece and nephews to buy too. Other than that no idea, probably give lots to causes.

TotallyKerplunked · 28/03/2025 11:10

I get confused by too much choice so I'd spend on things close to me. I have a small family so other than putting a chunk aside for my kids theres not much else to spend it on. I work in a school in a deprived area and I'd love to invest in it, new buildings and equipment and some scholarships for university.

I'm the same - as though £12m isn't enough

KatzenRatzen · 28/03/2025 11:17

I would buy a huge estate and rewild it and set up a study centre so that people can come and study the environmental consequences of various interventions, which I would fund.

l would also put lots of money into the arts, especially widening access.

Add another 16k a day and you are almost there. You could spend/give away 100 million and still bring in around 8k a day in interest.

No no no, 3% interest on the 3% interest! Grin

3% a year on 202 mill = £6,060,000

3% interest on £6,060,000 = £181,800

/ 365 = £498/a day!

Create a dozen or more scholarships at my alma mater.

Fund the local youth clubs fully. We have some amazing groups, they always need financial support.

Same for a local dogs and cats home.

Mbhhhvff · 28/03/2025 11:30

I would love to have that much money. I’m at the other end end of the scale money-wise and have very little to my name, I’d love a life where I’d never have to worry about money again.

I would like to also do something charitable with it, probably funding hospices somehow, or certain rare illness charities, or maybe set up something independently myself that helps people going through the specific illnesses that are close to my heart.

lostintherainyday · 28/03/2025 11:32

I’m not sure I would tell anyone, even family. I think I would quietly and modestly retire “having been lucky with investments”, start anonymously helping out people close to me with non-ridiculous sums (£50k -£100k), spend time volunteering and see what would bring the greatest good.

There was a philanthropist in the north east somewhere (can’t remember where) who spent most of his inherited large fortune on improvements in the local community, which has dramatically improved opportunities and standard of living in the area. Something like that maybe.

Ineedpeaceandquiet · 28/03/2025 11:33

Fund all the public services that have been cut in my borough eg parks, libraries and leisure centres for the next 5 years.

cornflourblue · 28/03/2025 11:34

That amount of money terrifies me! I would give £200 million away, to family, local charities etc.

Muffintopgalore · 28/03/2025 11:38

I’d find out where the poorest schools were in my area and invest invest invest.
I’d make my full time job trying to better my local community. Reach the most disadvantaged people / kids. I’d probably employ people to help me. Will probably need legal advice with all this.

offmynut · 28/03/2025 11:39

If i win it all and i will.
I will not be telling anyone about it i wont be sharing it either.

I'd do similar. I'd definitely help charities. And friends who are genuine. Obviously close family.

A family in a town near me won big. They've done so much for the area.

I've always said I wouldn't tell many. Just our dcs. But that amount would be difficult to hide.

JustSawJohnny · 28/03/2025 11:43

That amount of money wouldn't just change the lives of the winners and close family - it would change how everyone who knows about it looks at them forever.

I think I'd have to keep it as quiet as possible, for my own sanity.

theressomanytinafeysicouldbe · 28/03/2025 11:45

Firstly, I would go to the Supermarket and do a big shop!

I would help out my family obviously, and i'd also like a big family holiday

I would give a lot to charity, dementia, childrens charities & cancer

There is a big old office block which has sat empty for years which I would love to acquire and turn it into Studio/1 bed apartments for people struggling, who have found themselves on the street or left abusive homes or just left care.

I would love to also put some into the community for young people that have nowhere safe to go on evenings and just hang around - like youth clubs, sports clubs, etc. that are free to use

I would also support the local food banks but maybe offer free lessons on how to feed the family cheaply but healthily

There would be just so much you could do to help other people and make their lives better, i might even set up my own charity

I'd also love to help people with start ups/new local business, build the high street back up again

It would also mean I would no longer have to work, so all those hobbies i've always wanted to start I could actually start doing, art, pottery, photography, glass making, etc

Possibly have some work done (I know, I know) but my boobs could be higher and my stomach flatter - teeth straighter and whiter - nothing more than that though

I would look after myself more - so some nutrition & cookery classes (obviously I would be able to afford all the ingredients now), hair appointments and facials, mani pedis.

I'd get the grandchildren whatever lessons they want, dancing, gymnastics, horse riding, whatever they want I will take them - everything I couldn't afford to give my children when they were growing up.

One purchase would be a baby grand piano - I can sort of play but this would be one to add to the hobby list i've never gotten round to doing.

Wow, I've never really thought about it that much before!

NewishT1Mum · 28/03/2025 11:49

I’d buy a beautiful house in but countryside. Nothing too huge but a good 3/4 spare bedrooms and a few acres for my dog to play in.

I’d immediately employ a cook and a housekeeper.

LER83 · 28/03/2025 11:50

I wouldn't really tell anyone, which wouldn't be hard as I don't really like people 😂 I would probably keep about 20 million and then give the rest away. The tricky part would be finding a way to give family money without certain individuals getting their hands on it! I would try to do most donations anonymously, most of the small local charities I follow have paypal accounts to pay into so I would probably do that. Obviously would have to get legal advice. Luckily my dh is a financial adviser so is pretty clued up on taxes/estate planning.

DancingLions · 28/03/2025 11:50

I'd retire immediately (I'm 55). I'd buy houses/apartments in all my favourite places in the world, and have fun decorating and furnishing them. Then spend the rest of my life travelling between them all (first class of course). With that much money I could travel light as I'd have a full wardrobe in each place. I'd also take additional holidays in other places. The places I bought would be spaced out across the world, so when I'm staying in one I can visit nearby countries.

DC are adults, I'd make sure they're well set up. I don't have much in the way of other family, other than my sister and her kids, so they'd get some. But there's no one else really I'd give money to.

I wouldn't set up my own charity as, at this point in my life, it's more work than I would want to do. But I would give to causes close to my heart.

I think some people struggle with the idea of spending huge amounts on things that they wouldn't now. Say clothes and jewellery, that kind of thing. But for me, if I had the money and liked something, I'd just buy it. I'd definitely hire a stylist and give them an unlimited budget to get me a really nice wardrobe. I could do with help in that department! I'd eat at really nice places etc. I'm going to have to buy a ticket now 😂
