Emma Bridgewater mug handles keep dropping off!

Earlier posts on the same subject are a bit old now.
I love EB mugs and have bought 14/15 but I’m now down to about 7. The handles simply drop off. At £25 each I think this is ridiculous.
I emailed EB pointing out the weakness, making it clear I was not seeking recompense but telling them I am no longer collecting them.

I received a reply explaining their quality control. Not much help.
if anyone else has had the same experience please contribute to the thread and I shall advise EB to have a look at your responses.
Many thanks.

Handles falling off vessels intended to hold nearly boiling liquid is a massive safety issue. Bottom line - if it regularly happened with earthenware then it would be illegal to make mugs, cups, or teapots out of earthenware. So why is their complaints person pretending this is the case?

Update. Here’s a screenshot of the email from EB. It is exactly the same response I got earlier in the year when yet another of my handles dropped off. They have deflected attention from my mumsnet thread and focused on me personally. So many of you are right - customer service is poor.

That is a shockingly poor response.

TeaRoseTallulah · 07/04/2025 23:59

That's really bad, I won't be buying any in the future.

@Ilovecleaning I'd be interested to know what EB say about the thread / price / quality.

I’ve got quite a lot of their products and while I seem to have dodged the handle thing ( which sounds very weird - and dangerous) I do find their plates craze in a circular pattern on the inner part. This isn’t something I have had happen with other brands. I love Burleigh for a similar feel/vibe and have never had a single issue.

I also have found customer services to be totally nonchalant to the point of being rude whenever I have had a quality or delivery issue. Maybe they are fielding quite a few issues!

The mug design is, however, really satisfying to hold and drink from so I hope they sort this out.

I still love EB, but have had a few handles fall off my half pint mugs. I now use the cocoa mugs and it hasnt YET happened. But they do have one dimple where the handle meets the mug so we shall see. But have just got a couple of larger size Denby just in case to trial.

EB struggling financially, although seem to be picking up, but would have thought they would be keen to not have too much negative publlicity.

Emma Bridgewater bouncing back after recording £4.1m loss

It comes as turnover plummeted and the gross margin was squeezed

Yet another mug handle fell off today, so annoyed over it and the poor customer service.

Interesting. I hadn’t seen that. Thanks for the info.

Oh no 😟. I do love the designs but I won’t be buying any more.

The tell tale crack around the bottom of the handle has just appeared on one of my favourite few survivors. Now down to 4 I can actually use. And more potential plant/pen pots than anyone could ever need (potential as they all have sharp breaks that need sorting before they can be deployed).

Reluctantly accepting that I need to find a satisfying replacement, as I just can't bring myself to 'treat' myself on mugs that don't last. 😔

BiscuitTheft · 03/06/2025 20:00

Another one bites the dust here! Sodding thing! I’m scared to use them any more now. This is a fairly new one too so I think as pp has mentioned this may be a recent manufacturing issue.

Ah no! I'd actually forgotten all about this thread and just bought another two mugs a couple of weeks ago...still happy to report that none of mine have broken, touch wood!

What a shame @BiscuitTheft! 😔

Sunshineandrainbow · 03/06/2025 22:07

I have been slowly selling mine... Just need to decide on what to replace them with as I love mugs ❤️

Calliopespa · 03/06/2025 22:16

Did this get sent to Bridgewater in the end?
Did they respond?
They must have a concept of what’s causing it. It would be helpful to know. Is it dishwasher, stacking, hanging etc …

CatteryCatz · 03/06/2025 22:25

I bought an EB mug a few weeks ago - I wish I saw this thread first!

Has anyone received a satisfactory response from EB yet?

Luddite26 · 03/06/2025 22:27

Mine broke off when I used to put them in the dishwasher.
Other than that all good.

Other than the handles coming off your £25 mugs they are all good?

BurntBroccoli · 04/06/2025 01:05

I must have about 20 mugs that are regularly used. All between a few months and 20 years old. None have ever had the handles drop off!! Only ever washed in the dishwasher. Also none cost more than £5 - a few from charity shops for a few pence .
Just stop buying them!

Ilovecleaning · 04/06/2025 04:38

Thank you to new posters who are finding the EB mugs a disappointment.
tbh I feel like contacting EB again to complain about the poor customer service where a complaint is deflected with a standard response which does not address the problem (see my earlier posts).
Meanwhile, I have dug out my Denby mugs from the garage. Good old Denby… 😊

I would also mention that you have checked with others on social media I.e. Mumsnet! That adverse publicity may get a better reply from them.

Yes I did. When I contacted them I told them to google “ Mumsnet Emma Bridgewater handles keep dropping off”.
Their reply made no reference to it. It was a standard response 😡

Perhaps everyone on this thread who has had a handle issue needs to contact them!

Handles dropping off vessels for hot drinks is no small issue.

That said, I get lots of circular crazing on their plates but, touch wood, have not had the handle thing yet.

They have a loyal customer base who I think would stick with them through a change in handle design or similar, but they do need to be responsive and responsible if they are not to lose customer goodwill.

I feel scared to use mine now …

TheThoughtfulCandlemaker · 04/06/2025 08:58

You can get them filled as candles if you don't want to chuck them. There is a company that does this.

I sent an email yesterday as this is two within a few months. I’ll update when, or if, I hear anything.
