Emma Bridgewater mug handles keep dropping off!

Earlier posts on the same subject are a bit old now.
I love EB mugs and have bought 14/15 but I’m now down to about 7. The handles simply drop off. At £25 each I think this is ridiculous.
I emailed EB pointing out the weakness, making it clear I was not seeking recompense but telling them I am no longer collecting them.

I received a reply explaining their quality control. Not much help.
if anyone else has had the same experience please contribute to the thread and I shall advise EB to have a look at your responses.
Many thanks.

I think they are crap quality considering the price-I've lost loads of handles, got chips and also the glaze has gone.

Audiobook · 27/03/2025 17:05

That’s weird! We’ve got quite a few, all seconds from the factory shop and never happened to us in the 10 or so years we’ve had them.

Juiceinacup · 27/03/2025 17:07

I have 1 that I have had for about 5 years ( free with a magazine subscription) it is my work coffee mug and gets used 5 days a week. goes in the dishwasher, doesn’t get treated gently and it’s still going strong. Maybe they used to be better, or I just have a “good” one.

Yep this has happened to me too. Nearly scalded myself. Thought we were unlucky but if it’s a common fault that’s outrageous given the price.

clinellwipe · 27/03/2025 17:09

Are you my mum? My mum is boycotting Emma bridgewater (after previously being a huge fan!) as she was having a cup of tea and the handle fell off - hot tea all over her of course. She emailed and sent a message on Facebook and didn’t get any response. I love the designs but I haven’t bought anything since it happened as obviously the quality isn’t right

Member968405 · 27/03/2025 17:11

Yes 👋🏻 Happened to every one of ours, I don’t have a usable one left. Shocking quality.

Lurleene · 27/03/2025 17:14

The handle dropped off my daughter's Peter Rabbit one.

FeltCarrot · 27/03/2025 17:15

I’ve had about a dozen over the last few years, at least 5 have had the handles drop off unexpectedly and the rest have crazing in the glaze. Not great quality.

Anjo2011 · 27/03/2025 17:17

Blimey that’s awful. Never heard this, have got a few mugs that are quite old and never had a problem. Haven’t had any new stuff for a few years. Is it the newer stuff does anyone know? Agree about the glazing, have a Christmas set that has been used a handful of times and it now has those craze lines in it.

SuspiciousChipmunk · 27/03/2025 17:19

I’ve never had this happen to me! I always though they were well made but now I’m worried 🤣

TheFairyCaravan · 27/03/2025 17:27

I’ve got a dozen EB mugs. The handles are fine on mine, but I don’t put them in the dishwasher.

Poppystar1 · 27/03/2025 18:09

Yes, this has happened to 7 or 8 of our EB mugs. I contacted their customer service and received a fairly noncommittal email saying that they hadn’t come across the problem before! I also have found that the glaze on them looks cracked after not much use. It’s a shame - they’re lovely mugs to drink out of, and the designs are gorgeous, but I won’t be buying anymore of them.

NotMeNoNo · 27/03/2025 18:26

All my 7 or so EB mugs have either broken handles or crazed/cracked across the middle over the years. I think my Denby mugs beat them up in the dishwasher. Pretty but not for everyday use, sadly.

NewmummyJ · 27/03/2025 18:34

I had no idea, I have an EB mug I adore and use daily and was looking at other pieces to collect. Now I know about this fault I won't be and will be extra careful with the one I have got as such a fault could cause a horrible accident, especially with two very young children around.

1000DayChallenge · 27/03/2025 18:37

I’ve got loads - around 20 and they’re all in constant use. Ive never had this happen

Sunshineandrainbow · 27/03/2025 18:40

Yes I have had this, I had about 10 and now have about 5. Handles have come off when washing them up.

I won't buy anymore as nice mugs can be found much cheaper and I won't feel as bad when they are no longer usable.

There are only so many pen pots I can use. Any other uses for a handleless mug?

EspanaPorfavor · 27/03/2025 18:42

Same here, about 10 of a collection of 30 odd have had some sort of issues. Cracks, chips, and yes the most common being the handle coming off. I wouldn’t have started collecting if I’d known and now look for the same shape in other places, usually independent potters

TarnishedMoonstone · 27/03/2025 18:44

I have loads and have had this happen loads. It makes me doubly sad that they don’t keep old designs available, so if a favourite breaks that’s that. I only buy them in the sale because of the price. It’s a shame.

Ilovecleaning · 27/03/2025 19:25

Many thanks for all your replies. So glad it’s not just me.
As some of you have said Denby are indestructible. I have some Denby mugs which I put in my garage as my kitchen is small. I am going to retrieve them and start a Denby collection because I do like all my tea/coffee mugs to match.
As I said I shall contact EB and suggest they take a look a this post.
Thank you again to everyone who took the trouble to reply. Much appreciated.

I've just said this! My Bridgewater mugs are largely cracked and a few of them are breaking at the handle. I've older, much cheaper mugs in a better state. I've unsubscribed from their emails and avoiding buying more. They're insanely expensive now. Denby is indestructible.

You’re right about the Denby. They are brilliant.

Buy Brixton Pottery instead. EB. Totally ripped them off originally.

I agree. £25 each is so expensive.

@Ilovecleaning I'd be interested to know what EB say about the thread / price / quality.

Iloveadrianmole · 27/03/2025 19:33

This happened to me, all the mugs’ handles broke off or they developed cracks. I’ve stopped buying them now, expensive and terrible quality.
