Emma Bridgewater mug handles keep dropping off!

Earlier posts on the same subject are a bit old now.
I love EB mugs and have bought 14/15 but I’m now down to about 7. The handles simply drop off. At £25 each I think this is ridiculous.
I emailed EB pointing out the weakness, making it clear I was not seeking recompense but telling them I am no longer collecting them.

I received a reply explaining their quality control. Not much help.
if anyone else has had the same experience please contribute to the thread and I shall advise EB to have a look at your responses.
Many thanks.

Mine too, after not much use.

TheCurious0range · 27/03/2025 16:22

This happened to DH recently when we were at PIL's! luckily he'd nearly finished his tea and the bit left wasn't too hot

Annascaul · 27/03/2025 16:22

I’ve had it happen, too, they’re ridiculously shit.
I’ve stopped wasting money on them.

I’ve got about 10 of them and it’s happened once so has never been a red flag about buying more .

Rosesanddaffs · 27/03/2025 16:29

It’s never happened to me but I’ve noticed how the cutlery has started to bend after hand washing. The cutlery is now manufactured in China so I’m wondering if that has something to do with it

Stanislas · 27/03/2025 16:29

yes it happened to my anniversary mugs about the moon landings. We'd been married 50 years.
so upset.

MoreChocPls · 27/03/2025 16:30

Same here. Quality has gone downhill. I won’t be buying any more.

Immavet · 27/03/2025 16:31

Oh wow, considering the price that is shocking! If it's that common, it would suggest that the company are aware, but don't care. Disappointing

Amblesidebadger · 27/03/2025 16:31

I've just said this! My Bridgewater mugs are largely cracked and a few of them are breaking at the handle. I've older, much cheaper mugs in a better state. I've unsubscribed from their emails and avoiding buying more. They're insanely expensive now. Denby is indestructible.

SallyWD · 27/03/2025 16:31

Oh wow, I'd not heard of this. I have a whole collection of Emma Bridgewatee mugs that are about 5 years old. It's never happened to me.

Wakemeupbe4yougogo · 27/03/2025 16:32

I've got a very favourite one that I try not to use too often. The handle came off it yesterday as I lifted it out of the dishwasher. I'm hand washing from now on and could have cried as the pattern is discontinued (one of my dogs).

Gloriousgardener11 · 27/03/2025 16:33

I bought two and they both developed hair line cracks so I don’t use them for hot drinks just as decoration.

Bandol · 27/03/2025 16:34

I’ve had no issues with the handles falling off my EB mugs but most of my EB plates and mugs have got terrible crazing of the glaze.

Roundaboot · 27/03/2025 16:36

I have a few too and no issues with handles falling off or cracking, but we don't have a dishwasher so they're only ever washed by hand.

SmurfKingdom · 27/03/2025 16:37

Not the first time I’ve heard of this happening. Their quality is awful. I once ordered a personalised mug from them and I wish I still had the photo, but it looked like it had been painted by a child. I complained and they did actually refund it but I vowed never to shop there again.

abnerbrownsdressinggown · 27/03/2025 16:40

Yes, they seem to last a couple of years now before the handle starts to wobble and you can hear the joint of the handle creak a bit.

Shame as I like the size and feel of them, but I don’t want to be replacing them that often at that price.

HousedInMySoul · 27/03/2025 16:43

I've only got one, that was bought as a present for me, and yes the handle dropped off after about a year or so!
I didn't know it was a thing. In fact I asked ds if he'd dropped it and didn't want to say

hennybeans · 27/03/2025 16:50

I’ve bought about 15 over the years. There is currently only one left in use, the rest have broken. Dh liked the size and feel of them, but I’ve said I’m not going to buy another one because they keep breaking and are actually rather expensive.

tiredofthisusername · 27/03/2025 16:51

I don't own anything by EB. In all my life I have never had a single handle drop off a mug, cup, jug or any other receptacle, ever. Never ever. Not one. It is not a thing I would even begin to consider happening.

So it has to be exceptionally shoddy manufacturing for it to be a common thing with Emma Bridgewater mugs.

SingingSands · 27/03/2025 16:52

I've only ever had one EB, a birthday present DH bought me in London, it was London themed - and yes, the handle fell off!

I've never replaced it.

TeenLifeMum · 27/03/2025 16:53

I love the look and shape of EB China but all the glaze cracks and I’ve lost a handle too. I have 4 plates and planned to add to the collection but ended up getting le creuset China instead.

StumbleInTheDebris · 27/03/2025 16:56

Oh weird, I've got several and one of them was one of my longest-lasting mugs until I dropped it. Not had any issue with the others.

Am805463 · 27/03/2025 16:58

Yes I had about 7/8 and all of them eventually broke. My Denby ones that I’ve had longer are all still fine, never had an issue with them.

CMOTDibbler · 27/03/2025 16:59

All of our EB mugs that went in the dishwasher broke at the handle. After realising that, we started handwashing the EB ones and no handle breakages since

Daisyrainbows · 27/03/2025 16:59

Never happened to ours
