I just post to remind you that L/Ds do exist in the wild.

Quite likely that's where my next vote will be going. However for now keeping the Tories away from the levers of power is (still) the goal. By any means necessary.

Yeah, slightly right of centre leaning voters are always getting run out of town/ignored/bullied on these threads……oh hang on….no I wasn’t. It’s a complete mystery. I wonder why? Hmm

Nope that’s where I sit too but do have some very left opinions (education, social and health)

Ive never been anything but welcomed here.

itsgettingweird · 28/03/2025 18:01

Right now I’m thinking it’ll be LD for me next GE too!

MyNameIsX · 28/03/2025 18:04

s

What an incredible depiction.

PickAChew · 28/03/2025 18:09

I've voted libdem in many elections and definitely will be in the upcoming local elections as our local lib dem county councillors are brilliant.

Will he have cake?

You just know that after all that effort, the cat will almost certainly turn its nose up at it!

cardibach · 28/03/2025 18:12

My next election is the Senedd. Welsh Labour are more lef5 wing on the whole, but I think I’ll probs vote Plaid this time. I’m not sure it’s great for the same party to have control for so l9ng, plus when I did those quizzes about policy before the GE they told me I was more in sympathy with Plaid than U.K. Labour.

As is his prerogative. Cats are cute, furry pricks, after all.

I voted them in 2010. Labour the one after and Tory 2019. Back to Labour 2024 and who knows in 2029.

Certainly won’t ever vote Tory again definitely NEVER going to reform or whatever they call themselves next.

Labour right now aren’t for me but I’ll wait to see if it has the positive effect RR believes.

So really it’s back to LDems.

ThatbloodyRoblox · 28/03/2025 19:12

I struggle where I live as it is generally a Tory area and Labour don’t have a presence really, not even at town level.
We do have a LD MP this time. He is a little dull but is very good at answering emails. He has caused a bit of a stir as his election expenses were very much over the limit on his expenses return however it is said it is an admin error. The police are looking into the matter and some the other candidates who stood against him have written to ask him to resign.
We also have mayoral elections this year. We had a Labour mayor. Got in on second pref votes but as we are now back to fptp it is likely to go back to Tory. ( A former Tory MP who lost his seat at the last general election.
local council elections in my ward probably wont have a Labour candidate plus we will be going unitary so its all a bit up in the air.

I remember one of the Tory threads where a newcomer came in and started telling me I was personally by I blame for all the ills because I admitted I’d voted for Johnson.

even the Labour supporters here and those who aren’t Torybir labour never threw such vitriol at me for my mistaken voting choices.

I remember that. I also remember the admonishment they received.

itsgettingweird · 28/03/2025 19:54

Absolutely. Everyone was extremely firm that these threads weren’t for insults over people’s political choices. It was to discuss the politics of the day - empathises on discuss.

Araminta1003 · 28/03/2025 20:25

Voting Tory in 2019 does not make you a Tory voter, they had a majority then! Just like voting Labour in 2024 does not make you a Labour voter, with a majority too.
If you voted Labour in 2019 and for Corbyn, then you are definitely a proper Labour voter.
I have voted Lib Dem in the last few elections, but voted Labour under Blair and then for his successors too, even post financial crisis. However, I would never have voted for Corbyn. Nor would I ever vote Tory unless this current lot start similar levels of infighting as the Tories did. Then I would vote and hold my nose to keep them out. Because I know Lib Dem won’t win, even though they are my party now.
Far more people vote tactically than is acknowledged. Many people are swing voters. People are far more loyal to their football teams that political parties, that is pretty much a fact these days.

Piggywaspushed · 28/03/2025 20:34

Oooo, can I have a badge that says 'Proper Labour Voter' please?! 😉

Araminta1003 · 28/03/2025 20:58

“The report investigated four groups of key voters. “Loyalists” voted Labour in 2019 and 2024, while “Joiners” did not vote Labour in the earlier election, but did in June. “Defectors”, by contrast, did back Labour in 2019 but did not five years later. “Considerers” voted for the party in neither 2019 nor 2024, but will consider doing so in future elections.”

https://labourlist.org/2024/09/labour-poll-conference-2024-savanta-labourlist-event/

It is all quite divisive language. Defectors?
Joiners sounds like anti Brexit, rejoin somehow. I wonder who coins the terms!

Poll: Labour risks losing loyal voters – hear more at today’s LabourList and Savanta conference event – LabourList

Many Labour voters who stuck with the party in the 2019 and 2024 General Elections might switch their support in future elections, a new report…

Notonthestairs · 28/03/2025 21:29

I don’t think it’s surprising that any party might refer to defectors. They all want party loyalty, they want reliable voters that they don’t need to factor in to their calculations because they know those people will show up on trust.
But times change. Family members with long voting records for the one party have switched and having done so once are more likely to switch again IMV.
A hard task for any one party to gather people under a single umbrella when there is greater choice.

I did too, hopefully I’ll feel able to do it again in 2029.

Well, considering where I grew up, I'm not that keen on being called a Loyalist either!
