PIP for ADHD

marshmallowmix · 16/03/2025 10:20

Been in the news this morning as labour looking to slash benefits bills the cost is enormous and growing.

One of the main points discussed was getting PIP for ADHD I did not think this was possible …🤔.

We are taxed more than ever so cuts will abve to be made but surely this is madness giving out PIP for ADHD …there are genuine claims but… they said there are a 1000 new people per day now claiming PIP…so those on the make are going to spoil or for genuine a claims but something is very wrong 😦with the benefits system.

The numbers we are spending on benefits are incredible …let’s see what they slash but cuts are coming under Labour as it’s got out of hand.

Noone checks child benefit is spent on children? We spend 12.5 billion on that.

We check the child exists, but people can spend it on getting thier nails done.

Careful, you’ll upset all the PIP bashers who claim child benefit.

Labour seem to be proposing welfare cuts, how does that build things up again?

It doesn't, although we don't yet know what the Green Paper will say.

You seem to think I support everything Labour does without a second thought. This is ludicrously incorrect.

whats revolting is you think that people should get money without checks how they spend it and whether it actually helps their condition

people should get what actually helps for ADHD, through NHS. Not a state sponsored PA and not state sponsored compensation of costs brought on by ADHD (which is essentially costs from being extremely disorganised)

Why are you insisting that it c as n only be spent to ‘help’ a condition? There are lots of potential extra costs incurred that don’t ‘help’ yhd condition but do help people to continue to access society.

I don’t have a view on whether you always support Labour or not. If you jumped to that it was disconnected to what I posted.

It was a question on how cuts would build things up again.

The amount of people who stand in the playground at my children’s school bragging about the money they get for their children having mild behavioural problems is sickening.
My daughter is 7 and has ulcerative colitis and liver disease and all her appointments are London based (I live in Kent), and have had to go bank staff at work due to the amount of time she has off school and we got refused. I also know of 3 people on PIP who completely play the system and actually brag to others saying how easy it is etc. They should all be anonymously followed and watched day to day- that’d cut a lot out.

If you think it’s fraudulent then report them.

What you don’t do is tar everyone with the same brush.

cannaecookrisotto · 17/03/2025 15:39

It’s not as easy as people think to get PIP.

my father has a diagnosed degenerative terminal illness that I have to provide substantial care for and he got turned down. Awaiting hearing date as we’ve appealed because he actually does fucking need it, but it’s not a case of just being diagnosed and getting PIP. It’s based on NEED, not diagnosis Hmm

HollyBerryz · 17/03/2025 16:13

DodoTired · 17/03/2025 11:49

There is 0% fraud rate because you aren’t meant to provide receipts what you spent it on and it’s not means tested. So not many metrics to have fraud by definition. So 0% fraud rate doesn’t mean anything in this context.

What's means testing got to do with fraud?

Nothing at all. They’re playing mental gymnastics

Yes I wondered that! 🤣

rachelhere · 17/03/2025 17:51

Chatgpt says there are only 43 million people of working age. So 7.4 million on sickness benefits is 17%! Christ! How does that compare to other countries I wonder?

Even if ChatGPT is correct, which I would not be sure about, that doesn't mean that none of those 7.4 million don't work. That figure will include people on PIP who are actually in work, and for whom PIP is the thing that enables them to remain in work.

Some figures for you around the general living standards and welfare expenditure in other OECD countries

UK Living Standards Review 2025 - NIESR

While some enjoy living standards comparable to the most prosperous regions of Europe, the poorest in the UK are now poorer than Slovenia and Malta.

Why would you ask ChatGPT when you could just find actual government stats via any search engine? You know it uses a ridiculous amount of water, right? Climate change will only disable more people...
Anyway, that doesn't mean that many people are not in work.

rachelhere · 17/03/2025 17:59

Oh for gods sake

I have an ADHD and the questionnaire is clearly meant for people with dementia rather than people who are just disorganised.
it would be nice to have someone reminding me of these things but to expect that a taxpayer should foot the bill for that person not working is shocking.
you are part of the problem if you helped your friend to claim PIP for that, and people like your friend is the reason it will be reformed. I hope. As a taxpayer.

My brother has ADHD and tried to take his own life because he couldn't cope. Just because you have adhd doesn't mean you know the lives of others.

Strawberryorangejuice · 17/03/2025 18:09

I have ADHD. I am no longer able to work largely due to my ADHD. I don't claim PIP though. Do I think people should be able to? Yes I do. Will I claim it for myself if it remains? No I probably won't.

Scope has said there’s over 16 million people with some form of disability in the UK so less than half of the people who could claim actually do.

Justhere65 · 17/03/2025 18:16

spicemaiden · 16/03/2025 11:07

People are fed up of utterly ignorant people thinking they know what they’re talking about regarding disability benefits.
But since you think you know all about the benefits bill please do go ahead and tell me a) which broupd of yhd population makes up more than 50% of the benefits bill and b) which is larger: the benefits bill or tax avoidance and evasion, and then tell me how much money the government spends on detecting benefits fraud compared to how much it spends on tax fraud?

I do know two people very well who receive benefits and there is no reason why they can’t work. It definitely needs shaking up. Of course there are people who need it.

PIP is not an out of work benefit.

rachelhere · 17/03/2025 18:19

Really? I had no idea that it was that high. Wonder what they mean by 'some form of disability'?

A little reading for you: https://www.disabilityrightsuk.org/resources/equality-act-and-disabled-people

And you don't get PIP just because you have a diagnosis. You have to evidence how your condition(s) impact(s) you. My DS had a stack of evidence from clinicians that took him 4 hours to upload.

Yes yes I know all this, about PIP, stop giving me things to read! I'm not disagreeing with you! No one give two fucks what either of us think anyway, why does everyone always get so bloody pompous and patronising on here! 'A little reading for you'...🙄

You asked a question.

rachelhere · 17/03/2025 19:04

And they didn't answer it, just directed me to 'reading' so I could be as 'educated' as them! Because then I'd think in exactly the same way, wouldn't I?
