Tesla cars: are you getting rid of yours?

CrazyOldMe · 13/03/2025 21:16

Disclaimer: I can't afford a Tesla anyway!

However, I do know of several very decent people who own Tesla cars. They paid a lot for them and know that they can only sell them at a loss. It doesn't seem fair really.

If you have one, what are your future plans with it?

On that note, what will happen to the cars next do you think? Will the company go bust?

I definitely judge peope who are not at least a bit ashamed of the Musk connection.

No it isn't. You don't exercise power by buying stuff.

Fucking hell. The ignorance. Tell that to South Africa

Saw this car sticker on a recent work trip.

We were considering getting a Tesla. Now we won’t. I think if we had one we would try to get rid of it if we could.

bozzabollix · 14/03/2025 06:41

To those saying carry on buying them, there will be less of a market for a Tesla when you want to get rid of it, it’ll be worth less. Get a Polestar instead. Tesla means the resale will be crap.

To those unfortunately encumbered by a Tesla, get a sticker saying I bought this before Musk showed us how much of a twat he is.

Happyinarcon · 14/03/2025 06:47

Stirabout · 14/03/2025 04:51

I doubt many will sell them on but I think less people are buying them and in fact yesterday( or Weds ) Elon Musk lost $26bn in a day

Part of that is definitely consumer led

Investors are getting cold feet while they wait for the impact of Trumps tariffs, many billionaires have lost money. As for the drop in demand for Tesla cars its most likely due to the cheaper models emerging from China with comparable battery range. I looked into this last year when I was thinking of getting a Tesla

Yeah, I’m working overtime right now because you know these idiots keep burning theirs.

Don't they tend to burst into flames spontaneously?

JasmineAllen · 14/03/2025 06:54

I don't have a good opinion of Elon Musk and I don't like he has power as an unelected person. Neither do I have a Tesla or plan to have one because a) I'm not a fan of electric b) I'd never want to waste so much on a car because despite being able to afford a Tesla, I prefer driving a cheap old car.

Neither am I American. So I don't have skin in the game so to speak. However, I certainly wouldn't judge anyone else for driving a Tesla anymore than I'd judge someone for have a Dyson vacuum (owned by brexit voter who relocated outside the UK).

As for 'swasticar'. That's got to be one of the most ridiculous, manufactured and puerile things I've heard in a long time. Its right up there with 'Rachel Theeves' . I can just imagine a Democrat think tank coming up with it and getting all excited.

It's shameful that politics has become like this in America and elsewhere. Reduced to childish name calling lacking any real substance.

IMO it's regretable the Democrats don't put the same amount of effort into listening to the electorate and coming up with good policy that Americans want to vote for rather than jeering and name calling.

I have no idea what the political leanings of the CEO of Volvo or Toyota are, I don't think it matters to most people, they just choose their car based on what they need/like don't they?

This! Buy what car you like. All CEOs are probably wankers.

This post I suspect is part of the general political campaign against Musk. I don't like Musk but I can't help celebrate his attacks on waste. Far too many people have been getting rich off tax payers in the US - and probably Britain.

Why on earth was USAID funding the Guardian, the BBC and Stonewall?

SassK · 14/03/2025 07:00

Becoming so acutely involved in government was a strange move from Musk. He could've just quietly influenced.

I'm not a Trump hater, I'm indifferent to American politics (I've always considered it a very insular populace, regardless of whether it's in democrat or republican season). I would've considered driving a tesla at one time, however I wouldn't now.

Slimbear · 14/03/2025 07:08

Apparently the cars are being vandalised in some parts of the US so I wouldn’t buy a car that attracted animosity.

Tallyrand · 14/03/2025 07:23

The Tesla share price has never made much sense anyway. The money Elon is "losing" is theoretical anyway. I don't think it's tanking because of a boycott, it's more likely the Wall Street geniuses who think they had a certain winner in Tesla are now bailing.

I'd drive a Tesla no problem, I would just need about a week to figure out how to open the dam doors.

FridayFeelingmidweek · 14/03/2025 07:25

I just feel sorry for the driver (in a humour way, not seriously) because that Tesla symbol now represents a w@@ker.

However, it's pretty daft to think it has anything to do with the driver. They probably bought the car before he went publically nuts.

Selling a car over it would be silly though - just buy a sticker that says 'bought before Elon went crazy' haha

Middleagedstriker · 14/03/2025 07:46

JustSawJohnny · 13/03/2025 23:46

I think most reasonable people understand that most Tesla drivers had them before Musk revealed himself as Vice Twunt and don't expect people to inconvenience themselves by changing cars.

Would I drive one now, though? No.

Would I quietly judge someone who bought one at the moment (or in the future)? Yes.

This!

Really? Sales have dropped in some countries by 75% in one year. Investors a running from that. These are not ethical investors they all jumped on board when he was aligned with trump at the beginning and thought this would mean that he would make more money.

PosiePerkinPootleFlump · 14/03/2025 07:53

We have one. I definitely wouldn’t buy another but we bought it second hand 18 months ago (at least no money directly to Elon) and had planned to drive it until it gives up - which is what we will still do. Selling it wouldn’t really achieve much at this point

BurntBroccoli · 14/03/2025 07:59

Suppose it’s a bit like opening a new X account now as opposed to always having Twitter.

BurntBroccoli · 14/03/2025 07:59

Well, it's a lot easier to get rid of twitter /X than to get rid of a car if you are going to have to sell it at a loss. I assumed most sensible people had dropped twitter a long time ago?

DeepRoseFish · 14/03/2025 08:01

I’d be embarrassed to drive a Tesla

Hoppinggreen · 14/03/2025 08:22

Bluhdyvalentinemy · 14/03/2025 00:29

I totally judge people who drive Tesla’s now. Most people o know who have them have got rid of them. It’s fucking embarrassing!!’

You are embarrased about what car other people drive?

TinyTear · 14/03/2025 08:30

daisychain01 · 14/03/2025 06:18

Caveat - I don't know how true it is but

  • Tesla owners are selling their cars, because of Elon Musk
  • Tesla owners are adding a bumper sticker to their vehicle which say something along the lines of "I bought this before Elon went crazy"
  • Tesla share owners are incandescent that they bought shares in a company with no visibility or control that the company executive [EM]would have such an influential unelected platform in the US administration, causing such a negative impact on Tesla share value

I added the Bumper Sticker
😁gave it to my husband as a Xmas present

TinyTear · 14/03/2025 08:32

Hoppinggreen · 13/03/2025 21:30

No need to feel bad for me, I have a nice car I enjoy driving and really couldn't care less if anyone wants to judge or think they know anything about me becaause of it.

Indeed, it's one of the best cars i have ever had, been all over the place with it, including remote islands. Drives smoothly, takes hill and bends and it's spacious.

I added the bumper sticker but i love the car

Actually I entirely agree. Just because you don’t consider people’s values and choices as important, doesn’t mean the rest of us don’t.

You may be insulated from politics and think choices don’t matter, but they do.

An unelected Elon is doing Nazi salutes and gutting the federal govt which is pushing America away from democracy. It's actually a great insult because it gets people to think twice before supporting him via his company.

And let's not forget all the Magas and their puerile crap they come out with every day. Perhaps they are "snowflakes" for getting upset about calling them "swasticars".

outofofficeagain · 14/03/2025 08:39

I should add I don’t think people should sell them, and most people I know have them on a company scheme anyway.

But I judge people who get one now.

no, there’s no need to feel sorry for you if all you care about is that they are good cars. But some of us care about more than that.

you do you.
