Tesla cars: are you getting rid of yours?

CrazyOldMe · 13/03/2025 21:16

Disclaimer: I can't afford a Tesla anyway!

However, I do know of several very decent people who own Tesla cars. They paid a lot for them and know that they can only sell them at a loss. It doesn't seem fair really.

If you have one, what are your future plans with it?

On that note, what will happen to the cars next do you think? Will the company go bust?

I think what is happening to Tesla is brilliant. It is so upsetting to wake up every day to discover a new "initiative" introduced by Trump and Musk to line their own pockets at the expense of ordinary people. I felt so helpless (especially given that i am not American) but this whole thing with Tesla proves that we do have some power. We can boycott Tesla and X and everything else he is involved with.

That was a long winded answer to your question: I do not own a TESLA and would never have bought one in the first place - even if I could afford one - because of not wanting to give Musk a red cent of my money.

Well said 👏👏👏👏
Money speaks…..always!

Musk used to.donate to the Democrats.

ProfessorLayton1 · 14/03/2025 03:23

We own a Tesla ( lease from company) and cannot give it back for 2 more years without loosing money.
Have free charge for the next year and I intent to use it as much as possible.
Won't be getting another one when due for renewal.

I hope Tesla tanks. I like to see that people power still has some collective leverage against billionaires. There should be more of it.

TofuFighters · 14/03/2025 03:35

No. I love my Tesla and will buy again.

Whether current owners are selling their cars or not, sales figures show that people are boycotting the company, which in my view is wonderful.

Boycotts worked against South Africa all those years ago and one of the first boycotting campaigns contributed to the abolition of enslavement many more years ago.

Hahahahaha yeah South Africa is doing wonderfully. Well, one tiny part of it is.

"Swasticar" 🙄 god, stuff like this is so cringe. Luckily I'm finding that the preachy, smug, insufferable scolds mainly populate online forums. Most people in real life don't appear to be letting politics take over their entire lives

RevolutionaryMode · 14/03/2025 04:11

Amonyme · 14/03/2025 00:20

I wouldn't particularly judge anyone who owned one pre 2024, although I do judge people a little if they spend more than they can afford on cars.

But I would judge anyone who bought a Tesla now. Musk has shown how antidemocratic and extreme right he is, so giving money to Tesla is popping up a fascist. It is quite reasonable to form an opinion about someone who is happy to give money to someone who is so flagrantly trying to shatter any sense of fair and proper government in the US

That’s how I see it too.

countingthedays945 · 14/03/2025 04:13

We don’t know the political leanings of the other car CEOs because they don’t try to sell their cars on the Whitehouse lawn!

Surely people can see this particular billionaire is deranged and actually quite dangerous.

If you keep one or buy one prepare to have it vandalised.

It’s not the billionaire issue for me it’s his hateful politics !

LameBorzoi · 14/03/2025 04:26

It's just so bizarre, though. Musk isn't the person who came up with the fantastic engineering in the Tesla, and yes, he was funded by his family, but up until a year or so ago, he looked like a competent businessman. Has he just lost touch with reality? Is he deliberately trying to smash his empire?

Anyone vandalising a car is deranged and quite dangerous, hardly someone stable and safe to be around.

Do you use products by Proctor and Gamble? Eat Nestlé? Should I judge you on their records and assume that you agree with their ethics and standards? It's ridiculous to assume that people who drive or buy a tesla support facism.

Nestle is Swiss!!!

what’s wrong with Switzerland !

Nestle deliberately cause the deaths of infants in resource poor countries in order to boost profits

Mummyoflittledragon · 14/03/2025 04:48

We never bought one. And yes we can afford it. Our cars were pro rata more expensive. Not dh’s or my cup of tea and not practical with dogs. Our ndn has one and we know someone else in the village with one. No idea if they’re planning on getting rid. I presume not and don’t judge them for having these cars. One thing though, I can’t stand the whirring noise the cars make.

I have the feeling the anti Tesla car thing is a media invention. With the cost of living and with so many other issues going on I don’t think people care enough about this. Nobody is going to sell their car because some weird stuff Elon did that they couldn’t be bothered reading about in the first place

I doubt many will sell them on but I think less people are buying them and in fact yesterday( or Weds ) Elon Musk lost $26bn in a day

Part of that is definitely consumer led

I’m aware.
I assumed you thought they were American as it’s the thread. They’ve appeared on lists of American businesses

MayaPinion · 14/03/2025 04:56

No, Elon is a dick, no doubt about it, but the vast majority of moguls are not fluffy bunny rabbits who are keen to share their wealth. The James Dysons, Jeff Bezos’,and Philip Greens of this world didn’t get where they are because they believed in socialist principles. Most donate big to right wing parties and are probably happiest when unprincipled lunatics like Johnson and Trump hold the power.

Hitler had the head of Porsche design the Volkswagen.Daimler and Mercedes had links with the Bazi regime. I guess what I’m trying to get at is that if we only wanted to buy from companies that were ethical and aligned with our values we’d be looking long and hard for them sometimes.

It doesn’t really matter if you feel {checks notes} ‘nothing but pity and embarrassment’ for Tesla drivers. I feel nothing but pity and embarrassment for you for judging someone because of their car. Seriously, some people really need to get a grip.

We were planning on going to the states this winter for skiing, but I wouldn’t travel there currently. I’m disgusted by the political landscape.

You could switch to Whistler or Lake Louise. Both good skiing and supportive of Canada.

knitnerd90 · 14/03/2025 05:05

I wouldn't buy one now but I wouldn't sell it either. Someone tried the "What about VW?" argument on me today and I asked where the VW CEO was destroying democracy. It's silly to equate historical ties with what the current CEO is doing. I have family who would never buy a German car OR a Ford (I'm Jewish) and that's their right, but the two things aren't the same.

I think you need to look into some of their nefarious business practices regarding baby formula.

I can’t afford one sadly but I would absolutely love one.

HoppingPavlova · 14/03/2025 06:07

Would be a cold day in hell before I supported that dick.

daisychain01 · 14/03/2025 06:18

CrazyOldMe · 13/03/2025 21:27

I completely agree. Everyone I know who has one is a really decent person and not aligned with Elon in any way. I do feel bad for them.

Caveat - I don't know how true it is but

  • Tesla owners are selling their cars, because of Elon Musk
  • Tesla owners are adding a bumper sticker to their vehicle which say something along the lines of "I bought this before Elon went crazy"
  • Tesla share owners are incandescent that they bought shares in a company with no visibility or control that the company executive [EM]would have such an influential unelected platform in the US administration, causing such a negative impact on Tesla share value
