Tiramisu.

I'm about to try some.
I know I'm not going to like it, but hey ho! 😅

Anything you've yet to try?

Duck, just can't get Jemimah Puddleduck out of my mind.
Veal, rabbit, pheasant, ostrich, goat, just a big no for all these from me.

TheAmusedQuail · 02/03/2025 17:49

Pease pudding. Supposedly a delicacy in the NE but makes me gag. Both bland and disgusting.

HelenWheels · 02/03/2025 17:49

@RosesAndHellebores
sliced meat i think is donner meat

2dogsandabudgie · 02/03/2025 17:50

Poached egg.

Inextremis · 02/03/2025 17:50

@FridgeJenga White pudding is made with oatmeal, pearl barley, leeks, spices and pork fat. I make my own (and black pudding). I've eaten nearly everything on this thread - apart from insects, which I've never had the opportunity to try. The only things I shan't be going back to are tripe and jellied eels.

CrystalSingerFan · 02/03/2025 17:50

Shodan · 02/03/2025 17:47

There are probably loads of more unusual things I haven't eaten (durian fruit, fried insects for example) but I've tried pretty much everything else listed here.

My more 'usual' thing I've never tried is artichokes- neither the globe nor the jerusalem kind. I keep meaning to, but never get around to it.

Get around to it! Globe artichokes are my favourite vegetable. Serve with buttler and lemon jouice. Jerusalem are good too...

Rachie1973 · 02/03/2025 17:51

Omg lol. The more I read the more there is.

asparagus. Sushi. Blue cheese. Squid/octopus.

TheAmusedQuail · 02/03/2025 17:51

Oh! Forgot. In China I tried jellyfish. Bland and crunchy. Not revisiting it.

Stinky tofu. Does stink but is salty and delicious. Same flavour notes as blue cheese, which I like. Would definitely eat it again.

I often wonder who first shucked open an oyster and thought" ooo yum, I should definitely put that in my mouth"

There's plenty of evidence, middens, that show oysters were widely eaten during the Mesolithic and Neolithic times by hunter gatherers. I suppose needs must.

BobbyBiscuits · 02/03/2025 17:53

If you like creamy sweet things then tirimisu is easy to love! It's pretty bad in the way I can eat an unholy amount of it before I realise and feel bloated.
I'm trying to think of 'normal' foods I've never tried...
Tripe? But nobody really eats that so I'd be surprised if that is unusual.
I've never tried sandwich spread, or potted meat from a jar? But again, it's pretty old school so probably many haven't.

Shetlands · 02/03/2025 17:54

I'm in my 70s and I've never eaten:
oysters

lobster
scallops
scampi
caviar
jellied eels

heart
brains
sweetbreads
snails
frogs legs
truffles
paté
veal

duck
black pudding
KFC
McDonalds
Haggis

Pancakeflipper · 02/03/2025 17:55

I have never eaten a banana.
I do not like the texture.

I've never had trifle or creme caramel. Again - texture.

Not doing oysters or other slimey things..

Never had a cup of tea or coffee - I only have fruity teas.

But I can merrily eat tiramisu.

SomethingUniqueThisTime · 02/03/2025 17:55

Honey - Although I’ve eaten it accidentally (in dishes), the thought of it disgusts me. Why on earth would you want to eat something regurgitated by a bee 😱

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 02/03/2025 17:55

Tried most of these including snails and oysters (gave some to the cat whose nick name was Garfield and he declined)

I’ve never tried steak tartare and I’m worried I won’t eat it right. How do you eat it? Is there bread to put it on generally or do you just mix it with the egg and eat it with a spoon?

menopausalmare · 02/03/2025 17:55

Nando's

SquashedGrape1 · 02/03/2025 17:56

Chicken

I'm 42

Yousay55 · 02/03/2025 17:56

Chicken nuggets!

CrystalSingerFan · 02/03/2025 17:57

HelenWheels · 02/03/2025 17:48

considering i am 60 this year, i think i should try oysters
my dd tried oysters in vodka and loved them, so i might try that way

Maybe try them cooked? My sister hates them raw but cooked under the grill with cream, grated parmesan and chopped chives are great. She ate those happily.

But most food works if marinated with enough vodka...

Jade520 · 02/03/2025 17:57

Pickled onions, I remember always seeing them in chip shops in huge jars as a child. Can't really imagine how they taste though - are they crunchy with a really sharp vinegary taste? Do they taste like raw onion? Are they really hard to get your teeth through or are they softer than a raw onion with more of a taste like when they've been cooked?

KnewYearKnewMe · 02/03/2025 17:57

Lorrymum · 02/03/2025 17:10

oysters
tripe
snails
kebabs
caviar
veal
venison

Yep - this is my list, too,

I'll add whelks, jellies eels and winkies.

Never had them, never will by choice.

We all tried durian as a dare to each other when we were on holiday in Malaysia, including our 6 yr old.
It was freshly prepared by the durian stall owner. They sell mountains of them, they’re so highly prized.
Safe to say, it was an unanimous No from all of us.
Mangosteens on the other hand, are delicious 👌🏻

What DO durians taste like? I’ve been fascinated to know ever since I stayed in a hotel that banned them because of the smell.

Over71 · 02/03/2025 17:58

I've tried just about everything on the list, some I like better than others.
Durian is lovely; insects are just like a crisp but with bits that get stuck in your teeth.
I love all offal, including brains. Only bits I haven't tried are testicles; my butcher tells me they are slaughtermen's perks.
I love oysters, horsemeat.

I do not like artificial vegan collections of chemicals that pretend to be meat , cheese, etc.

P.S. Just thought - I hate tea.

Semiramide · 02/03/2025 17:59

What exactly is in white sausage

I assume they mean German veal sausage - Kalbsbratwurst.

They taste like onion flavoured marshmallow to me. Worth trying because there's nothing anything like it but agree with PP that mangosteens are much nicer. Rambutans too.

Eyerollexpert · 02/03/2025 18:00

Never had a chicken nugget (been veggie for years now so won't happen now) Never had a Pot noodle or I instant noodles. Don't eat anything frozen except veg or ice cream.
Won't try new things as I know I won't like them!!! I am 60 not a toddler 😂
