Tiramisu.

I'm about to try some.
I know I'm not going to like it, but hey ho! 😅

Anything you've yet to try?

Aubergine. Decades of watching cooking shows brightly saying, 'salt the aubergine to bring out the bitter juices.' I know seeds have evolved since then, but I just can't.
No lobster, molluscs or eggs/roe. Or snails.

A banana.

They're horrible, aren't they? I hate the smell.

Purplepeopleeaterz · 02/03/2025 17:32

Whitebait in my mid 40’s lovely in Spain on the coast, hideous in the UK so far.

RobertaFirmino · 02/03/2025 17:33

I've never had butternut squash. Should I bother? I imagine I'd like it if it's similar to things like sweet potato or parsnips.

very inoffensive.

DramaAlpaca · 02/03/2025 17:34

I'm 60. I've never tried any shellfish other than prawns, and never will. Tinned tuna - oh God, the smell... just revolting. Tripe, I couldn't. I've eaten other offal as a child, including black pudding but not since and never again. I will admit to being extremely fussy about meat and fish in general though.

I think I was 45 before I braved peanut butter, and was surprised how much I liked it.

On the plus side, I've never met a vegetable, fruit or cheese that I didn't like.

ItisIbeserk · 02/03/2025 17:34

Butternut squash is very similar indeed to sweet potato. Mashed, you’d probable struggle to know the difference.

madaboutpurple · 02/03/2025 17:34

I have not eaten mussels or oysters.

deeahgwitch · 02/03/2025 17:35

Haggis
Tripe
Crubeens ( boiled pig's feet - a "delicacy" in Ireland )
Frogs legs.

FridgeJenga · 02/03/2025 17:36

@placemats I’m picturing you as Julia Robert’s in Pretty Woman “Slippery little suckers” 😂

@ExtraDecluttering Not a fan of trifle either!

@LongDarkTeatime What exactly is in white sausage I wonder. Maybe safer not knowing!

Just reading through this thread, and pondering, the only things mentioned I’ve never had the opportunity to try are durian and fried insects. I think I’d give both a go but probably am not going to out of my way to do so! I really want to think of a common thing I’ve never tried but I’m struggling.

I8toys · 02/03/2025 17:38

Oysters or anything with tentacles

Funny you should say that.
I'm not overly fond of bananas but I never felt that they had a bad smell to them.
That is until we started to keep a recycling bin in the kitchen where we put veg peels, tea bags coffee filters and banana peels, for the compost.
Every time I open the bin, the smell of the banana peels is revolting,! Amazingly stinky!

Tea.
Regular English type tea. The smell has always made me feel sick from early childhood, which was problematic as my parents drank it all the time. It literally makes me want to vomit. When people drink it at work I eat a strong mint to block out the horrendous smell.

I have found my people.

The smell of milky tea on someone’s breath makes me want to gag.

White pudding is an offal pudding. A bit like black pudding!

CoolShoeshine · 02/03/2025 17:39

Pigeon

ERthree · 02/03/2025 17:40

Cod roe, Food of the devil.

quirkychick · 02/03/2025 17:40

I'm quite an adventurous eater, so have eaten quite a few of these:
oysters - delicious very fresh, but not otherwise (true of most shellfish, tbh)
black pudding and white pudding - I like both
haggis and tripe - no these were horrible
I haven't tried fried insects, durian fruit or escargots.

Mach3 · 02/03/2025 17:41

As for things I haven't tried, erm, nothing mentioned, I'll try anything, can't think of any foods I actively dislike.

placemats · 02/03/2025 17:41

@FridgeJenga 😄

I've never watched Pretty Woman (not sure I want to now).

LongDarkTeatime · 02/03/2025 17:42

@FridgeJenga I believe white sausage is just like black sausage but made with milk 🤢 As I’m not a fan of milk either it’s a hard no from me.

Edit after seeing @Mach3 ’s answer. So they’re like French andoillette (sp?) 🤢🤢🤢 I have tried these by mistake and they are truly awful.

Squirrelsnut · 02/03/2025 17:42

Most shellfish.
Brain.
Haggis
Steak tartare

Katypp · 02/03/2025 17:42

I could not bring myself to try anything that has the word 'fermented' in its description.
I can't even eat overripe pears or bananas so kimchi etc is stomach-churning to me.
I mean, why would you??

EffortlesslyInelegant · 02/03/2025 17:42

Avocado. It will never pass my lips and no, I don't know why

Blue cheese or runny cheese. Barf.

Salami. Looks like a crime scene.

I agree! The smell of overripe banana and banana peel - gross. Not a fan. I don't like plantain either.
