Should anyone want to watch the worst film ever made and/or deliberately waste an hour of their lives....

....then it has just started on Film 4.

Enemy Mine. About an astronaut and a male alien who collide in space and crash land on a planet. The male alien turns out to be pregnant and they co-exist on some hostile planet or other.

Really shite.

Poor Thing and Everything Everywhere All at Once are both far worse than Enemy Mine imho. Don’t know how the hell they won so many oscars. Confused

Poor things is utterly brilliant. Bonkers, but brilliant.

@CharlotteLightandDark

I can only remember the end at this point but man it was hard work and I was glad when it finally finished

AuntMary · 01/03/2025 19:16

I could never finish Bad Santa because I find it depressing.

JohnofWessex · 01/03/2025 19:17

My nephew is at University where they have a bad film club.

They watch them and get drunk

It has a happy ending!

Solaris - George Clooney in space for what seems like, an eternity.

Lost in Translation - lost patience after 30 minutes

Mother! Absolutely no idea what that was about, does anyone know?

I love Peter’s Friends - it’s soo cringeworthy it’s actually brilliant. I’d love to watch it again.

INeedABrewPlease · 01/03/2025 19:28

Skinamarink.

My teenage son begged me to let us watch it, heard it was the scariest film ever made. It really isn’t. If you enjoy watching static and random camera angles (eg the bottom corner of a room) where sod all happens then this is the film for you. We gave up after half an hour so maybe it got better? I doubt it.

yodaforpresident · 01/03/2025 19:32

I can’t believe that Tenet is on here - that’s a fantastic film but you do need to concentrate, and possibly watch it a second time.

I give you Nosferatu which is awful and sacrilege to a classic book. Dreadful acting and too much simpering from Mina.

NewsdeskJC · 01/03/2025 19:32

I sat through the emoji movie. At the actual cinema.

Friendofdennis · 01/03/2025 19:35

Eraserhead as well. I remember watching this in the 80’s with some arty friends. I didn’t have a clue what it was all about but I don’t think they did either.

I offer The Royal Tennenbaums. We left halfway through

Oh god, this. So many accolades when it first came out so I went to see it. WTF was that rubbish?

Mother! Is about the earth and god and the bible/Old Testament. It’s like a theological/eco horror.

SusanSHelit · 01/03/2025 19:38

The English patient. Spent the entire film waiting for something, anything to happen and then the end credits rolled. Why on earth it won awards I will never understand

cakeybird · 01/03/2025 19:43

Birdemic

The Room

Both cult classics so goddamn awful!

ScouseQueen · 01/03/2025 19:48

Tamara Drewe. Featuring Gemma SHE WENT TO RADA YOU KNOW Arterton and many other British actors as complete non comedy characters.

longtompot · 01/03/2025 19:53

Ok @Talonz take yourself back to when video shops were a thing and this film was first out. I'm not sure how many times my dad took it out for me as I forgot what its name was & didnt remember what it was about from the synopsis 😬

Nooooo! 😢

I love Solaris. The sound track was one on my playlist on the long commutes into the City. Natasha McElhone worked hard on that movie. I am so sorry for her real life losses too. It is a beautiful film, but you do need to listen hard.

Life of David Gale. It presents as if it's a serious intelligent drama but it's utter guff and really really boring. Kate Winslet is in it and she's always ace but this film is crap. I saw it at the cinema when it came out 20 plus years ago. I remember writhing in my seat I was so bored. The twist is shit and you just want it to end at that point. I seem to remember a fair bit of it is Kate running around trying to get a phone signal. Basically if she'd got a signal, it could all have been solved straight off. I watch a lot of films and this one stands out as my worst cinema experience ever.

Noooo. I've just told someone, this very day, that is one of my fav films!

flowflex · 01/03/2025 20:07

Little Nicky is the worst film I've ever seen.

PlacidPenelope · 01/03/2025 20:09

All is Lost - Robert Redford film. I still can't believe the utter crapness of that film.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 01/03/2025 20:10

Oblivion with Tom Cruise. Two hours and four minutes of absolute rubbish. I had a horrific headache by the end and no idea what on earth had been going on. Dire.

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 01/03/2025 20:12

I see all your terrible films as raise you ... Sex Lives of The Potato Men!

Love you. Those video nights were amazing weren't they.

Do you remember Legend? I do hope you do, same year 1985.

Tom Cruise. One of the earliest Ridley Scott films and in my opinion one of the most underrated films ever. Ridley Scott takes you to places. This is one of those films, a couple of decades before Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven etc.

The forest, the waterfalls, the horses - all in a studio. In the opening scene, the cottage kitchen, the garden, all that sunlight casting rays across the baking, the fire, the ambience. No one does places like Ridley Scott. Then the undercroft of the devil, all those dark pillars and Mia Sara as Lili.

This film is so important in my view, being the foundation of some of the perfectionism and quality in direction that we are able to reap now.

No!!!!!!!!! Nosferatu is amazing!

Crash with my beloved James Spader. Awful movie.
