Thank you for the thread. I just want to clarify something as well. When I say America, I mean Trump. I don’t hold β€˜America’ responsible as I know there are millions of people there who didn’t vote for this and who too are horrified at this blatant shit show. I love America, have been there more times than I can count and hoped to make my home there one day. I am finding all of this very hard to process and it’s causing a fundamental shift in our thinking in the UK.

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 16/02/2025 18:47

Thank you very much @MagicFox

dibly · 16/02/2025 18:48

Agreed WinterMorn, it feels like such a betrayal. Thanks for the new thread Magic.

Oh yes, this in spades.

Llttledrummergirl · 16/02/2025 18:53

Thank you for the new thread. And yes, by America, like others, I mean Trumps America.

Natsku · 16/02/2025 18:57

Yeah I think it's a given that we're referring to Trump and his sycophants when we criticise what America is doing.

DuncinToffee · 16/02/2025 19:03

I lurk on these threads but now checking in as it overlaps with other threads I am on. Thanks for the links and information 🌻

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 16/02/2025 19:23

@Branster thank you for your post on the last thread. We have the regulars here but given the time involved it does actually mean quite a bit to know there are (mostly) silent lurkers for whom the threads are useful.

Also, agreed @WinterMorn

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 16/02/2025 19:30

Thanks for the new thread. Very grateful for all the contributions, the expertise, the solidarity.

Your contributions, when you make them, are extremely helpful @Hillsmakeyoustrong Your contacts in Ukraine give small but revealjng snapshots that we don't otherwise get.

Igotjelly · 16/02/2025 19:38

Checking in. I feel like this or the next thread might be the ones where we get a β€œpeace” deal. Never thought i’d feel so heartbroken about the prospect.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/02/2025 20:00

Thanks for the new thread.

I am trying hard to stay positive, but I'm finding it hard to decide which of the Fart's bits of bad behaviour is more upsetting: selling Ukraine down the river or messing about over climate change. He is the pits and I hope he rots in hell with his buddy Putin.

minsmum · 16/02/2025 20:15

I do think he is going to do untold damage to Americas standing in the world and they may not recover even after he is gone. Since he came to power he has gone after one American ally after another

I agree, I think once the rest of the World could forgive and write off as an anomaly but twice I think will leave a bad taste for years. That is if we don’t also fall into the depths of right wing hell. Next week’s German elections will be interesting.

Yes. There's a permanent change going on here.

We don't know where the chips will fall and how many other people will get hurt, but it's pretty much guaranteed the US will come out of this period lesser than it went in.

Putin must be utterly delighted.

Igotjelly · 16/02/2025 21:02

Rolling news headlines saying Ukraine won’t attend the UK-Russia talks. How fucking dare they speak over the top of the people who have literally been bleeding and dying to keep us free! Angry doesn't even come close.

some details of the mineral deal that Trump wanted

ChrisO_wiki reposted

SPRAVDI β€” Stratcom Centre

@StratcomCentre

The Washington Post has revealed the internals of the Trump administration's efforts in obtaining a signature by President Zelensky on a document ceding 50% of Ukraine's multi-trillion dollar resources to American entities, including state-owned companies, in exchange for past US assistance, which amounts to approximately $109 billion since 2022. The plan also involved granting the U.S. control over key assets, which would then be privatized by American entities, effectively handing over large sectors of Ukraine's economy. Key points: - Kyiv received the proposed U.S. deal just four hours before US Treasury Secretary Bessent met with Zelensky on Wednesday. In that meeting, the treasury secretary β€œinsisted” that Zelensky sign it immediately - No security guarantees offered by the US - A senior Ukrainian adviser described being taken aback by the scale of what the Trump administration demanded. The person compared it to Europeans carving up African colonies in the 18th century, and said it could also lead to the right to develop Ukraine’s resources being signed away for decades with no guarantees that investors would actually develop them. - Zelensky has said he wants European involvement and investment in developing his country’s resources, not just Washington’s - A total of $66 billion in military aid from Washington has been recieved by Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion three years ago, about $50 billion in non-military aid, $69 billion in aid from 2014-2022

According to WarTranslated, Zelensky has just arrived in Saudi Arabia.

God support him against those two thugs.

That’s interesting because the news outlets are saying Ukraine won’t be represented.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/crr0gngkjrvt
