Help me with my living room again 😩

Sorry it's me again. So after thinking about doing something with my sofa that's gone out of the window.

But I do want to completely change the living living room. So basically change the walls and the floors, curtains.

My no 's are no dark walls. It has to be light although I will consider a medium sort of colour. Do I just paint or do wallpaper as well? Or maybe some sort of panelling

Floor wise I want to rip the floor up and put something better down. I'm open to the colour and type. I'm also now happy to put a rug down but short pile type.

I'm very against cushions and floor lamp/low light type. As I don't like a room that's dimmed . I like it bright light wise.

I have taken a few pics of the living room so there's a better idea.

I'm hoping to make a start this week.

Sorry to be a killjoy but I probably would have painted them individually first lying flat so any drips or splashes don’t matter and you can paint right up to the edges easily as getting paint on the sides wouldn’t matter as the sides aren’t visible. Now you will have to mask every strip individually and wait for the paint to dry before painting the next strip and mask the walls too 🫤 Although you seem to have a talent for masking and getting perfect lines, a skill I don’t have 😂 Maybe it’s worth trying painting them first for the bit you haven’t done yet? I think it would be quicker.

No i definitely prefer to paint them whilst they are up. My brain will get confused if i paint then put them up . Plus i would have to wait for them to dry. I will need to put frog tape up the top on the ceiling . I'm hoping I wont have to put frog tape on every strip . Although I may have to . Its not a problem though.

Finished with the wood now. Its taken . me 5.5 hours. I started at 10 but took an hour of for fuffing around.

I'm going to sit on my butt again for a short while just because I can. Then start on the painting.

I'm going to treat myself to nandos tonight. All the kids are out . The silence has been lovely

Is the back wall staying white here ? I'm not sure about this colour scheme at all to be honest. Good for a children's play room but too much like a 90s McDonald's for a living room.

It's staying like that. Sofa will be under it . Get what you mean by 90s mc donalds though never mind 🤣 not bothered if it looks like a play room. Wanted colour

hockityponktas · 09/03/2025 06:12

Thank you. I'm really thinking i might go to b&q and get bright blue and bright green paint and add that as a colour as well . I will need to paint a few that I have already painted white so I can bring the green and blue into it

I'm of to b&q I feel like im wasting time . I was meant to be finished yesterday today is meant to be my tidy up day . I have not even washed school uniforms and I need to clean and tidy up. Also I promised DS I would be finished today. Because he's been asking about the living room being out back as normal as there's not much room to play and I promised hom we could spend tome together when he gets back from his dad's so I need a rocket up my arse .

@Youagain2025 I think it looks great! Honestly don’t think you need to add more colours you run the risk of ruining it, saying that it’s your house so do what you want!

shove a load of washing in before heading out, peg it out/put in dryer when you get back, two jobs ticked off the list.

To late 🤣 I'm at b&q but I did manage to find 350ml tester pots at the bit where you can mix paint so its costing less and i can carry it . And hold it on the ladder. And its only cost me 17.50 instead of 30.00

I think with those brightly coloured sticks the background needs to be matt black. They sell this in b and q. To clarify also, I haven't been in a McDonald's since the 90s when I was a teen. For all I know the hamburgler is still there hamburgling.

Youagain2025 · 09/03/2025 11:30

It does remind me of mcdonalds regardless of when it was 🤣. I now can't get it out of my head I'm sure I will block it out soon along with all my other trauma 🤣. I dont want it black

OP posts:
TethersMiddle · 09/03/2025 12:28

Black would definitely be too much. You have black in the sofas and that will be enough.

That's what I'm thinking . . I haven't even started. I got distracted tidying up.

I Need to paint a few of the ones I have already painted to white so i can add the green and blue into it thinking how many to do. I didn't really want purple and black together so don't know if i can do something there. . But i still want purple and black in the mix . It might be to much faffing

OP posts:
KnickerFolder · 09/03/2025 13:40

It’s not too much faffing. Get it how you want otherwise you will regret it!

I'm going to paint the unpainted ones with the new colours in it then maybe I can see what I meed to do with the ones already painted

I have got confused 😭. I have taken 2 pics one between the wall and up to the first painted green is the old pattern .

Then after the first green is the new pattern.

For the new side i don't know what colour to do the ones not painted yet .

For the old side I don't know how I make it match the new, side ignore the white . I painted them thinking I only need to change then ones

I’d go over the ceiling splodges once you’ve finished with the colours. But it looks good, I don’t think the colour pattern matters too much, random would look nice.

Bogginsthe3rd · 09/03/2025 18:53

For the other wall, if sticking with the wooden multicoloured drip effect, I would paint the slats before you glue them to the wall. You can avoid painting the ceiling this way.

Yeah I'm going to sort the blotches and wash the paint of the floor.

Anyway have finished the wall
