Help me with my living room again 😩

Sorry it's me again. So after thinking about doing something with my sofa that's gone out of the window.

But I do want to completely change the living living room. So basically change the walls and the floors, curtains.

My no 's are no dark walls. It has to be light although I will consider a medium sort of colour. Do I just paint or do wallpaper as well? Or maybe some sort of panelling

Floor wise I want to rip the floor up and put something better down. I'm open to the colour and type. I'm also now happy to put a rug down but short pile type.

I'm very against cushions and floor lamp/low light type. As I don't like a room that's dimmed . I like it bright light wise.

I have taken a few pics of the living room so there's a better idea.

I'm hoping to make a start this week.

You can buy Rustoleum at B&Q etc or Amazon. They also do tester pots:

Or just use acrylic from Hobbycraft or The Works.

Wood paint/furniture paint from brands like Dulux or Rustoleum come in much smaller pots eg 750ml. Are you looking at the right section? You can prime wood and paint it with acrylic paint from a craft shop, eg Hobbycraft, although you might need to seal it. That would probably be the cheapest option with the widest range of bright colours.

I was possible looking at the wrong ones in store. But I was just looking at the wood paint on line and it seens to be outside paint so I'm not sure if its safe to use inside. Not sure if its even that much Cheaper to be honest.

Thank you for looking. They are to expensive for me . They are 24.00 a tin. They ones I get are,12.00 -15.00 for 2.5l . I was just hoping smaller =cheaper but probably not.

A tube of acrylic is a couple of pounds… Maybe try that?

I’ve used this for painting wooden toy boxes etc I think I used diluted white emulsion or gesso as a primer, and acrylic sealing spray.

I'm going to do one of theses . I don't know if I want to do the one that's from the side of the wall . I would do it at both ends. Or if i want to do the one that across the whole wall coming down. I would not do the ceiling though.

Also it's going on a white back ground then the wood bits will have bright colours oh and a small amout of black

I knocked on both neighbours doors earlier to ask if they can hear my jigsaw they said no . Do you think maybe they were just being polite?

OP posts:
KnickerFolder · 07/03/2025 21:47

Wow. A jigsaw! You are a braver DIYer than me 😂

Your neighbours know you are considerate because you already asked if it is a problem, so I am sure they will feel comfortable asking you to stop if you are disturbing them.

I can't just get rid of the sofa it was expensive and I'm still paying for it
I don't have that kind of money just to replace and start again.

I was thinking if the floor was darker. I don't know if that works work though

Edited

I think a darker floor would be horrible.

I think you need to paint the walls a warm, light colour. A warm yellow or robins egg blue would be nice, as would a coral pink/ orange or a dusty rose shade. Definitely paint, and remove the wallpaper, which is very gloomy.

I'd get a big, non fluffy rug in a beige colour - maybe a jute rug. They can be hoovered and taken out and whacked to release dust too.

I think I remember your other threads.

mathanxiety · 07/03/2025 23:24

I like the gold paint idea too.

Any ideas here you like? The geometric thing is similar to other stuff you’ve liked.

It looks great! Have you decided to leave the wood natural instead of painting them?

No im still going to paint them . It seemed easier to do it whilst they are on the wall .
