What things took you far too long to realise was a, erm... "thing"?

Sorry for awkward title!

I never realised until a couple of years ago (I'm 52 😳) that at the ends of the tubes of foil, clingfilm etc, there are two little tabs you push in to "hold" the roll when you pulled it.

What other "things" can you teach this old dog?

You can edit WhatsApp messages.

That the outside of the tomato puree lid can be used to break the foil lid of the tube, there's like a teeny Philips screw but in there!

ooh a lot of creams are like that now

That it is remuneration, not renumeration.

And now I'm wondering how many times I've made an idiot of myself with this one 🤣

Wait what happened? I’m curious to what constitutes a horrific incident considering the umm ‘medical’ photos shared semi regularly.

CSA images were posted.

The tiny arrow on the petrol indicator level on your car telling which side it is on. Found that well into my 30s.

There's a running thread in site stuff, but basically someone or multiple someone's were able to post images of child sexual abuse within legitimate threads. It's absolutely horrific.

sarahssO · 03/02/2025 19:34

That there is a tab to pull all the way round the Happy meal box that becomes a 'tray' for your kids' food!

sarahssO · 03/02/2025 19:36

Also that we're all eating chocolate biscuits the wrong way up. Put the chocolate side facing your tongue, you get more out of the chocolate flavour that way.

I was embarrassingly old before I figured this.
Stabbing away there with a pointy tool, I just accepted there was no better way.

ChippySauce · 03/02/2025 19:38

@YourSnugHazelTraybake
OMG no way.
That's horrific 😢

Is this all windows or do you have special windows?

I think it's a building standard in Scotland that upstairs windows need to be cleaned safely from inside the property so tilt and turn windows are very common.

I feel that NZ should be further north than Oz so am surprised when I see a map and it is not the case.

If you turn the map upside down then it is. 😆 I thought this too.

OP I have, and still do to an extent, thought that left and right are fixed compass points so it I turn around left and right swap places. I'm mixed handed so it rarely matters anyway but I'm buggered if I can grasp the concept that I personally have a left and a right hand side and it never changes (except in my head where it does).

Continuing the household then, you can remove your kitchen sink plug strainer with a flat head screwdriver. If you dare.

That the word "news" comes from it being new info, so news.

I only found that out last year too 😂

I learnt that you can buy things that clip over your existing kitchen cupboard door hinges that make them soft close. Sooo quiet now! Thought I'd have to replace the whole hinge.

Oh I wonder if you could tell me more about these please? I'm not sure if links are possible due to the CSA incident last night, but maybe where you got them and what they are actually called? Then I could look up myself. Thanks.

Oh me too. Only discovered that about about 3 years ago

Hemlocked · 03/02/2025 19:57

Have a look at the make of your hinge. It should be written on the hinge itself. Mine say Blum. They're a very common make. Search for "Blum clip on soft close". They look like grey lip sticks. You literally just clip them on! Took me 5 mins to do my whole kitchen.

A couple of weeks ago I realised that New Zealand is actually located to the right of Australia on the map. I always used to think it was on the left. I’m in my 40s and there is a map of the world in a frame in our house 😳

Depends if you're looking up or down!

debauchedsloth · 03/02/2025 19:57

That your house is actually sitting on the earth. The surface of The Earth. When you take out the flooring and any concrete and blocks and stuff, there's rocks and stone and clay down there. Logically yes I "knew" that but seeing is believing!

vandel · 03/02/2025 19:59

Thanks @Hemlocked .

I have to say I burst out laughing as I first read your reply as "Bum clip on soft close" Oh dear, need glasses!
