What things took you far too long to realise was a, erm... "thing"?

Sorry for awkward title!

I never realised until a couple of years ago (I'm 52 😳) that at the ends of the tubes of foil, clingfilm etc, there are two little tabs you push in to "hold" the roll when you pulled it.

What other "things" can you teach this old dog?

Australians from the state of Victoria are also Victorians.

I didn't know that either. Grin

HoraceCope · 09/02/2025 07:04

i only know about it from Im a celebrity to be fair

Until the past few years, I didn't realise Victorians were called that because they were under the rule of queen Victoria. I know, I know...

And we were all 'Elizabethans' up until 2022 😁

And I guess now we're all proper Charlies
😅

we werent actually Elizabethans = that is limited to elizabeth i reign
The era under Queen Elizabeth ii was called the New Elizabethan age.

Actually I think we are Carolinians, or something similar.

@HoraceCope Don't tell the Scots that.

They caused enough fuss about Her Maj not being II that there is now a protocol that a new King or Queen takes the highest regnal number of either Scotland or England so if we ever have another King James he will be James the VIII.

We love ours. We replaced our tap last year and got one with it integrated. Game changer!

What game were you playing with your tap?

You thought Lucy was the opposite of tighty 😂

Lefty Lucy Righty Tighty. I was 46 when it was explained to me what this meant and that everything works in the same way.

Not everything.
If it is a left-handed thread, you have to say Tighty Lefty, Loosey Righty.

"While many screws and bolts follow a right-handed convention, left-handed threads have specific use, such as in preventing loosening of certain components during operation."

I discovered last week you can open two docs at once with word.....and synchronise scroll them!

I didn't know about the synchronised scroll! This would be so useful in my work. How do you do it @HollyBerryz

HoraceCope · 09/02/2025 09:02

DreamW3aver · 09/02/2025 07:58

You can edit WhatsApp messages.

Only for a few minutes though. If you leave it too long, you can't.

Lefty Lucy Righty Tighty. I was 46 when it was explained to me what this meant and that everything works in the same way.

I think it's "loosey..." Most do tighten clockwise, but not motorbike clutch shaft nuts, which would otherwise spin undone.

SinnerBoy · 09/02/2025 09:23

Oops! Should have read the whole thread first, I see that others have already explained...

That your house is actually sitting on the earth. The surface of The Earth. When you take out the flooring and any concrete and blocks and stuff, there's rocks and stone and clay down there. Logically yes I "knew" that but seeing is believing!

What did you think it was sitting on?

ChanelBoucle · 03/02/2025 20:53

That Edinburgh is west of Bristol.

No it isn't

LovelySunnyDayToday · 09/02/2025 09:32

It's above it.

This thread is an eye opener! No idea about the tabs on tinfoil.

Mine is that I thought avocadoes were advocadoes until fairly recently.

Eh?

LovelySunnyDayToday · 09/02/2025 09:32

I think it is slightly further west in longitude.

That the velux sky light windows flip all the way round and then have a little catch to hold it in place so you can clean the outside! Had no idea til seeing a TikTok.

I'm so happy to know this! 👏👏👏

HoraceCope · 09/02/2025 09:47

That it is remuneration, not renumeration.

Shocked.

Audiprettier · 09/02/2025 10:38

I think you mean avocados !!

Look at the lines of longitude, our maps 'straighten up' the UK to fit on a page better.

I think you go into the Review tab, Compare and click side by side. I don't have my computer open, but have a look around and also press F1 or go into the help
