Anyone discovered an affair after an accident?

ifelttheearth · 02/02/2025 23:42

I recently watched a TV programme about a woman who found out her husband was having an affair after he'd been involved in a serious accident which also involved his affair partner. She thought he was away on business.

Has this happened to anyone in real life?

How shocking it must be and you must have so many questions in your head!

This does seem plausible to me, slipping off the loo drunk could mean landing on the brush next to the loo, with all your weight behind it . Very unfortunate but not impossible.

My amazement was at this

“A young mother died after doctors repeatedly failed to spot a six-inch long toilet brush handle embedded in her buttock.“
Two years!

Wasn't there a man whose wife thought he was in the twin towers on 9.11 and was worried he had died as he worked on one of the top floors only to find out he wasn't at work and was with his mistress.

fartfacenotfatface · 03/02/2025 13:01

My neighbour suffered a heart attack (and subsequently died) whilst having sex with his affair partner (in the affair partner's home in the middle of the day). Awkward.

Thelnebriati · 03/02/2025 13:06

I know someone who's father died; and thats how they all found out he was a bigamist. He had 1 family with his first wife who he had divorced, and another 2 families with women he was married to at the same time. None of them had a clue about the others, he worked away a lot.

Reminds me of the story a few years ago of the man who took his children for a walk in the pushchair - only he was actually meeting the woman he was having a affair with (and using the kids as an excuse). They were so busy snogging on the seafront that they didn't notice the pushchair rolling into the sea. One of the children drowned. I always think of the poor mother geting that horrific double whammy of awful news... not sure I'd be able to get over it. She stayed with him though, apparently.

The OW and him stayed together and got married. I think they had a daughter together too. I Googled it this morning after this thread...

No but we discovered that my FIL had 3 girlfriends when he became seriously unwell. His long term partner and 2 much younger women. This made the situation so much harder for all involved.

Hancox432 · 03/02/2025 13:07

As others have mentioned. It's not about getting people there it's about how much they spend. If I am going to a place like that I'm getting 2 drinks max and not wanting to spend much on them. Just do not think there is a chance to make it profitable.

Hancox432 · 03/02/2025 13:08

Sorry wrong thread

Woodythewonderpony · 03/02/2025 13:08

Apparently (I read somewhere😁) there is a higher risk of having a heart attack when having sex with an affair partner as the illicit nature of of it raises blood pressure/stress hormones etc and maybe you’re more “athletic” with an affair partner🤷‍♀️

messybutfun · 03/02/2025 13:14

It must have been in the 90s when a young football club owner died in a helicopter crash. Turned out he had a lover with a baby only a few months old. The aftermath was all over the press.

Why sadly? He deserved it and she was right and strong to do what was best for her and not to fit society's expectations.

They had children together. I hate people who have affairs, but the kids should have been able to say goodbye to their dad.

If I had an example myself I wouldn't have asked if anyone knows of someone it's actually happened to!

Why wouldn’t you?

thiswilloutme · 03/02/2025 13:24

something similar happened to an elderly family member, widow in her early 60's, met a dapper widower in his 60's, they dated, then married. They were married for about 10yrs, we used to chat to them at family events. We knew he used to travel a lot, had no idea why - turns out he'd told her he was in something like M15 and used to get "called away" on cases (!) She was told not tell anyone.

She got a call from a hospital some distance away to say he'd had a heart attack, she got there and said she was "Mrs X" only to be told Mrs X was already there with Mr X........ He was a bigamist, as well as being a fantasist.

He died shortly after - so no legal consequences for him, but her kids had a bit of a minefield of financial stuff to untangle as my relative was not the legal wife!

weatherissweetenough · 03/02/2025 13:29

It happened to one of our neighbours - the wife was out with her AP on the back of his motorbike. Devastating for all concerned, they were only in their late 30's and both left young dc.

Not everything you read is true.

This is one of the plot lines of the Kate Atkinson book 'One Good Turn's (great book!).

Ilovegermany · 03/02/2025 13:34

I found out my partner of 20 years was having an affair after he died and saw all the text messages to the OW on his phone. Luckily the will was made out to me.
After he died, others told me they had seen him out and about with this woman while I was at work, but no one thought to tell me at the time. They were also driving my Cabriolet. Lots of things started to make sense, like why he always dropped me at the bus stop and picked me up and I wasn’t to use the park and ride.

I remember a post on here. It was awful. The OP's partner suffered a medical episode and passed away. She then found out from his phone he was having an affair. They also didn't have a will set up, so everything he had (I think this included the life insurance policy) went to their shared child, but she couldn't access it to pay off the house or the costs associated with raising their child.

I think about her time to time and really do hope she managed to have that overturned.

I remember this, the OP was heartbroken by his death and then found all that on his phone. Awful.

Wish I could remember her username to see how she's doing now.

I’ve previously searched up a post on google with a brief description adding mumsnet to it. This was suggested to me by another. MUmsnet user when I asked about a post that I couldn’t find.

ifelttheearth · 03/02/2025 13:48

I wonder if it's worth posting on here as it's rare that an OP doesn't get some sort of criticism.

It was just a question as a conversation starter. Lots of people do it!

I'm now having to keep saying that I'm not a journalist!

Report me, or simply don't comment if you think I am!!!!

My brother. His wife was having an affair with his best friend. They agreed to have regular nights out with the boys and the girls, so he was out with his male friends when it happened. She had a double womb which the friend perforated during sex at their house.

Ambulance called, she was blue-lighted to hospital. Staff could not explain to my brother how this had happened and kept telling him, he needed to ask his wife. Unfortunately the only person who could drive her home from the hospital was my sister...

It emeged that the best friend was a well known Lothario, and when confronted by my brother in front of his wife, rather a sordid past emerged and the wife threw him out. My brother split with this woman and it later emerged that she had been physically attacking my brother, which culminated with the Police being called when he was undertaking a pre-arranged collection of his goods and she attacked him with a walking stick in the front garden.

Proudest moment, when my mother without saying a word closed our front door to the woman's face, after my brother had died suddenly from an undiagnosed brain tumour. My brother, although older than me, had always been my mum's baby (I was a demob present) and this woman's treatment of him cut her to the quick.

Unless he was a werewolf I can’t see how this is even possible.

It’s a rare condition called Penis Captivus.

@Needhelp101 'none of this is true' - great book - read by me on holiday in Greece last year

I heard a story from a guy at work.
One of his pals was out for a walk with her daughter who was about 5 & they walked past a block of flats.
Wee one goes Oh that's where aunty Tricia lives.
Mum said you don't have an aunty tricia ?.
Yes I do and she lives in there.
Took her mum right to the door of her dad's girlfriend.
Dad had been telling mum he was taking wee one to the park when he'd actually been taking her to his affair partners for some afternoon delight.

Did the child give any details about what happened at Auntie Tricia's? Grin
