Felt intimidated by person delivering my post

Lovelybitofsquirrel3 · 28/01/2025 16:52

I was in the bath, when the doorbell rung. My bathroom is next to my front door. They then knocked aggressively. Went around the back, did the same thing. Then they came back around the front and started banging on the windows. I live in a small house and could hear it. This felt distressing to me especially since I didn’t know who it was. Got out the bath saw the sorry we missed you so knew it was the postie.

Not sure what an aggressive delivery looks or sounds like lol 🤷‍♀️

Bigfellabamboo · 28/01/2025 17:55

Intimidated, frightened and you found it distressing? You need help for your anxiety!

L0bstersLass · 28/01/2025 17:55

If the bathroom is next to the door, why didn't you put a dressing gown on and open the door?

All he was trying to do was deliver a parcel and he was checking if you were in and giving you plenty of opportunity to get to the door.

I get the impression that you're rather dramatic - e.g. he was aggressive with your garden gate. Aggressive?!

Because she doesn't have to open her door if she doesn't want to. Especially when she is naked in the bath. FFS.

Are you a millennial? They're frightened of their own shadows!

🙄

What a harsh response.
I can well understand why someone would be alarmed at persistent banging on doors and windows, front and back, anyone with an ounce of sense could.
The OP may live alone, be unable to get to the door, even be frightened to answer the door if she felt intimidated.

This isn’t AIBU. I know what I experienced. No one else was there, no one on this thread was there I am disabled and they did this because they were angry that I wasn’t answering the door. It’s not ok to intimidate me.

They weren't intimidating you. They were trying to do their job.

I can well understand yes, it's screams anxiety. Hence seeking help.

purplecorkheart · 28/01/2025 18:09

I kind of understand what you mean. I think the banging was excessive, and going to the back door was in poor judgement unless it was part of your delivery instruction.

However, I do wonder had this postman had complaints about not knocking loud enough or not waiting long enough for the person to open the door.

2025ohdear · 28/01/2025 18:09

Were you really frightened or are you annoyed that he knew you were in but you wouldn't answer the door?

They weren’t angry. They were trying to deliver your post / parcel fgs.

Don't be an idiot. Their job is to knock and if no one answers take the package to the depot. Not to go around the house, bang on the back door and bang on windows. Who the hell does that? And even worse, who thinks that's acceptable? You are probably one of the people who thinks it's ok if the post person opens the door and leaves the package inside.

Zingy123 · 28/01/2025 18:12

Presumably you had ordered something. You should answer your door and stop wasting the posties time.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 28/01/2025 18:13

If the postie knows you are disabled and all your curtains were drawn, are you sure that they weren't trying to get a reaction in case you were incapacitated? If you'd fallen over in the living room you'd be grateful for someone knocking all round the house...

MoonWoman69 · 28/01/2025 18:13

All the people moaning that the postman was "excessive" will be the ones who also moan that they have to trail out to pick their parcels up from the depot!!!

kelsaycobbles · 28/01/2025 18:14

Most posties will knock round the back if they believe someone is in

It stops people complaining that they have to trek to the post office ( something many disabled people would not want to do ) because they never heard

He wasn't trying the door or coming in through the window - just doing his job

IHateBakedBeans · 28/01/2025 18:14

No one was trying to intimidate you.

henlake7 · 28/01/2025 18:16

I think I'd be scared if somebody was going round my house banging on doors and windows. But then I have scumbags for neighbours so it might have been them or police.

But if I was expecting a delivery? I probably would of just shouted for them to leave it somewhere (i lie....last time this happened I just answered the door dripping wet, in just a towel!😁).

Is there any reason to call someone an idiot for having a different opinion to you? And no, of course I don't think it's ok for them to open the door and this postie didn't do that.

They maybe thought the OP was in so knocked in different places in case she hadn't heard. It makes their job so much harder to have to return parcels to the depot.

Lovelybitofsquirrel3 · 28/01/2025 18:21

I don’t want to be any trouble to anyone but I’ve never experienced banging on the windows from them before and I contacted them just this evening and they’re telling me it wasn’t them my parcel is still out for delivery and it was a scam which has really frightened me

Good job your doors are locked then eh?

Very quick response from Royal Mail. Which parcel is it again?

I didn’t want to be specific because I have told people in real life and this doesn’t tend to happen from what I can see.
It was an Amazon delivery driver and I have just finished speaking to associates I kept getting passed around but in the end I was told that they don’t post notes through and it’s a scam.

You say your home is small is it one of them homes that mainly elderly live in he was probably knocking loudly assuming you might be hard of hearing

NovemberMorn · 28/01/2025 18:25

We used to get a 'sorry we missed you' card from the electricity board when a meter was due to be read.
Was the card definitely from a postal service?

Just read the update, No, I don/t think Amazon do post cards.
