Anyone else have a visceral reaction to the picture in the news of Axel the murderer

I’m not going to link or post his picture as he’s beyond evil and I can’t bear to look at him. I don’t want to be a grief vampire at all, that’s not what this post is about. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced such a response to it or anything else? I haven’t experienced it before

OP posts:

HawkinsTigers · 24/01/2025 21:26

Exactly.

Edited to add that I base this on the fact that I used to work with someone who committed a very high profile crime and the photo used by the media was equally as horrific and if you saw the person in daily life you wouldn’t have matched the photo with him. There was a clear (and understandable) media message being promoted and the image fed that far more than other available photos.

Edited

Michael Stone by any chance?

Yes. I cannot look at it. There should be a warning before the picture.

A warning about what? Crazy eyes? His "Sideshow Bob hair", which keeps getting spouted on here.

Not sure about that. This child killer and rapist is 97 years old. He's been in prison for decades.

Jeez, that's just how you'd imagine a typical paedophile to be. Revolting specimen.

No, perhaps that’s another example of the same thing.

Photos to raise a visceral reaction are nothing new - 32 years ago we were shown the images of "Look into The Faces of Evil ."
The later released ones holding their official personal detail boards they looked almost angelic . But they were far , far from angelic

Does he look "fucking terrifying" because he's so black or so plainly unwell in the head?

Or maybe it's because you know the nature of his evil crime which frankly could have been committed by anyone regardless of what they look like? He's an evil guy for sure, but it has nothing to do with the way he looks.

Out of interest, do pictures of Kyle Clifford (crossbow killer of a mother and two daughters, also in court this week) give you the same visceral reaction?

Being as I pass plenty of Black and other skin colours daily {Live in a City} no, it's absolutely not because of his race that he gives me a visceral
reaction.

Strange that you assume that Black= evil because no one else on here is suggesting that.

oakleaffy · 24/01/2025 21:58

Myra Hindley that someone mentioned- she looks really evil in that mugshot. A hard faced killer.

Weird how their school photos was filtered as 'sensitive content'.

CeceliaImrie · 24/01/2025 22:02

Yes. Made me flinch, couldn't look for long.

SallyWD · 24/01/2025 22:02

The first time I saw that photo I felt very shocked. He looks deranged and very frightening. Now I've seen it about a hundred times this week, it's lost its power. The crime is still utterly shocking though.

please can you post a pic of Kyle Clifford’s mugshot? I can find a pic of a cheerful chap looking like he’s off to a wedding or the court sketches where he looks pretty unpleasant but it’s not a photo.

Arcticstorm · 24/01/2025 22:08

Yes, it emanates pure evil. He should have been hung.

Ah - my tech error .

I did think about not putting the photo up at all but we've all seen them a million times and it is quite a contrast between the two sets of photos ,

I am quite happy never to see Axel Rudakabana again, I don;t think he looks evil as such , but so, so arrogant . The rolled up eyes and the way he has his lips pulled in round his teeth , it is a horrible pose . Mocking .

Let's not pretend the media need to pretend he's more evil than he is.

Honestly, some of these comments.

No worries.
A lot of mugshots feature someone who looks arrogant. Mainly because the person is a revolving door criminal, and has a lot of mugshots taken.

People saying Axel looks evil... I do wonder if it is because of the stark contrast between the white of his eyes, and his dark skin.

  1. thar crime could not have been committed by anyone
  2. yes , I had the same reaction to Kyle
  3. i can't believe you're actually suggesting that Op has had that reaction because he's black. Do you know how disgusting that is?
PoltergeistsStartLowKey · 24/01/2025 22:14

howrudeforme · 24/01/2025 19:48

No.

The stock photo was deliberately chosen because he looks frightening in that pose with is head down looking up. It’s meant to cause shock.

All the same, this is what those poor children would have seen as he was killing them and that is utterly hideous. I hope he serves every day and then dies in the same pain he caused.

adminicle · 24/01/2025 22:15

It's impossible to see a murderer's picture without thinking of what they've done - take other killers, such as Shipman, the Wests, the Moors murderers, the Yorkshire Ripper - so, yes, there is a visceral reaction, but based on his crimes, not his appearance.

If Axel Rudakubana was a different person and his photo was in the news, say, because he'd raised a load of money for charity, I doubt I would glance twice at it.

People always go on about how evil Myra Hindley looks in her mugshot, but if it was just a random picture of a 1960s office worker (as she was before she met Brady) that popped up as a stock photo somewhere, no one would single it out as 'the face of evil'.

Onlyonekenobe · 24/01/2025 22:16

God this thread is like a village square in medieval times. Completely base.

Mrsdyna · 24/01/2025 22:16

Yes it did the same to me, everything about him looks completely evil. Those poor girls.

I agree, and I imagine that's probably what OP meant, but we have descended into do gooders And virtue signallers to label us all racists.

I had the same feeling at lucy, and she's a pretty girl.

AlbertCamusflage · 24/01/2025 19:43

No, I don't "have a visceral reaction to the picture in the news of Axel the murderer".
I don't understand why he is worse than Kyle Clifford, the man who murdered three women and recently pleaded guilty. In fact Clifford's crime is more troubling since it is just an extreme example of the type of misogynistic hyper-controlling crime of violence that men perpetrate against women time and time again every fucking week, whereas Axel Rudakubana's appalling crime is profoundly untypical.
What exactly makes your reaction to an image of the killer so visceral in this particular case? could it be to do with the incidental facts of his appearance?

Bore off with the race line.

Completely agree re Kyle Clifford

Wrong it was the mug shot released by the police 2 days ago
