Anyone else have a visceral reaction to the picture in the news of Axel the murderer

I’m not going to link or post his picture as he’s beyond evil and I can’t bear to look at him. I don’t want to be a grief vampire at all, that’s not what this post is about. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced such a response to it or anything else? I haven’t experienced it before

Well, hoping for torture and violence in prisons does none of us any favours, not least the staff that work there. I am trying to make sense of all this but I definitely know that more violence isn’t the answer.

I know you're right, but still no.

Plus, the state has a duty of care to all prisoners. Any serious harm would have to be investigated and could result in compensation.

HalfMarathonWishItWasTheChoc · 24/01/2025 21:04

TBH I’m yet to see a picture of a murderer that didn’t physically repulse me; this kid, Leo Belford, Ian Huntley, Ian Brady. They are all the face of evil.

BeardofHagrid · 24/01/2025 21:05

He looks like a demon in that photo.

Again.. Read the room.
You can't expect people to care about that after the details we heard yesterday.

Facts don't matter?

He does.

IAmAWomanWorkingFromHome · 24/01/2025 21:07

I think that while it’s understandable that people would wish torture and violence on him, in reality, those carrying out said torture and violence are no better than him. They are all violent criminals in their own right who aren’t doing what they do for justice, they’re doing it for notoriety.

QuickMember · 24/01/2025 21:07

Yes. This has been said before but he is the face of evil. Rudakabana is evil, he is ideologically possessed. I listened to some details of his actions, the murders and I cried out loud. I can’t actually believe what he did.

Give it a rest. If you're incapable of not understanding why people don't want to have a debate of duty of care 24 hours after what we heard, it's not on me to keep explaining it to you.

GiraffesAtThePark · 24/01/2025 19:57

Yes! Made me think of the picture of Myra Hindley.

And those didn't make me feel anything one way or the other. Static pictures don't tell a story.

Coldanddamp · 24/01/2025 21:10

I think most would recoil, he's done a unfathomable thing & looks deranged in the photo.

Sangeetafangeeta · 24/01/2025 21:19

howrudeforme · 24/01/2025 19:48

No.

The stock photo was deliberately chosen because he looks frightening in that pose with is head down looking up. It’s meant to cause shock.

it is likely his mugshot, released by the police after his guilty plea. No editorialising.

Gowlett · 24/01/2025 21:21

The image of him is burned into my brain.
I’ve only seen it once. Can’t read about it.

oakleaffy · 24/01/2025 21:22

I know exactly what you mean, @Newyearnewmewoooop
I had the exact same ''Jeez, he's deranged and evil'' reaction.

There was a demon painted on the wall of Aleister Crowley's house in Cefalú that looked like that, with the eyes in that pose.

The only other person that gave me the chills to the same extent was Patrick Mackay , in his photo booth pictures, the last one of the four.

Exactly.

Edited to add that I base this on the fact that I used to work with someone who committed a very high profile crime and the photo used by the media was equally as horrific and if you saw the person in daily life you wouldn’t have matched the photo with him. There was a clear (and understandable) media message being promoted and the image fed that far more than other available photos.

HalfMarathonWishItWasTheChoc · 24/01/2025 21:27

In the aftermath of this the media put out favourable pictures of him smiling with school mates, one of him outside a tardis when he was doing drama and a photo op for Doctor Who.

We only just got to see this real photo of him. It was part of the cover up. Look - he looks so nice, surely he couldn’t have done it?

yogasam · 24/01/2025 21:32

Does he look "fucking terrifying" because he's so black or so plainly unwell in the head?

Or maybe it's because you know the nature of his evil crime which frankly could have been committed by anyone regardless of what they look like? He's an evil guy for sure, but it has nothing to do with the way he looks.

Out of interest, do pictures of Kyle Clifford (crossbow killer of a mother and two daughters, also in court this week) give you the same visceral reaction?

rewilded · 24/01/2025 21:33

Yes. I cannot look at it. There should be a warning before the picture.

MorrisZapp · 24/01/2025 21:33

The problem with that is that by the time a lie has gone round the world, the truth is still putting its boots on. I've seen huge volumes of misinformation here and all over social media today, and if it goes unchallenged it becomes entrenched.

The mugshot wasn't released because courts don't release mugshots until conviction but most of twitter thinks Keir Starmer held the picture back - telling them otherwise just doesn't stick. They think it, so it's true.

I'm as upset as anyone else by the traumatising details of this appalling crime, but the law, the NHS, the police, the courts etc etc must act as they always have, no matter how outraged the public feel.

Again. The police don't make mugshots public until conviction. There was absolutely no doubt about his identity, he was arrested on the day the crimes were committed. There was absolutely no agenda anywhere to make the public think he hadn't done it.

Scutterbug · 24/01/2025 21:36

I could see deep into his eyes. They were dead, unseeing.
Evil.

If you’re that affected by a photo of a man maybe you should avoid the news, it’s a photo which has been selected to portray him in a particular way because it serves a narrative. Just like the doctor who one did previously.

Luminousalumnus · 24/01/2025 21:37

The police take a lot more than one shot for a mug shot. The one decided on is meant to tell a tale.

RisingSunn · 24/01/2025 21:40

EasternStandard · 24/01/2025 20:20

It’s awful, he looks evil

More than the image was the outlining of his crime, horrendous

I did get upset at that

Same - obviously I knew he committed the murders. But I had no idea of the sheer ferocity of the attacks.

Left me completely cold.
