So unbelievable that people can think a bunch of billionaires world act for the common good of ordinary people and I'm not sure how much any pushback is working. The legal challenges seem to have had some success in at least delaying things but I'm not sure how much good they can do.

None of this can lead to anything good for America - the vandalism of public services is going to be disastrous. You can't run a country like a start up and 'break things' because what you 'break' is human beings.

But still some people will choose to believe the crooks are honest and all the authorities are totally corrupt. Don't get me wrong, I'm quite sure there's dodginess aplenty in some of the departments they're taking apart, but absolutely nothing compared to the putrid levels of naked corruption that's going to happen without them.

There was a really interesting article in the news about how many employees each department has and when and how many have been hired in the past 8 years.

There are about 2 million Federal employees, not counting active service members. USAID employees about 4,600, the Dept. of Education another 4,600 so cutting those won't get anything like the trillion dollars or whatever it is that Trump wants. The cuts are going to be for grants such as researching the best ways to teach children, free school meals, and grants to schools in deprived areas. The states are going to be told they are responsible for making up this money, but they aren't going to be given the money to do so. The states can then decide to either raise taxes or just not give the grants. Republican politicians are not going to vote to raise taxes and it is the poorer states with the most deprived children who tend to vote Republican.

Another interesting article was how Elon Musk is pushing hard for the SLS (Space Launch System) NASA project to be shut down and the moon launch program to be switched to - wait for it - Space X. As soon as I saw him with Trump on campaign platforms I thought that shutting down much of NASA and transferring their projects to Space X would be part of it. I imagine he is trying to buy established AI companies as when he replaces Federal employees with AI he wants to have the company that is used to manage the transfer.

*And there are cases where you need an incandescent bulb. There have been several reports from colder climes where switching traffic lights to LEDs has lead to them being covered in snow and completely useless.

NBC News: The Trump admin has started firing Biden-appointed U.S. attorneys — paving the way for deployment of Trump-aligned law enforcement officials.
