One of Leons's dodgy kids is 19 years old and uses the handle big balls Hmm

Experts question whether Edward Coristine, a DOGE staffer who has gone by “Big Balls” online, would pass the background check typically required for access to sensitive US government systems.

I like the way they phrase that, like there's a snowball's chance in hell that he'd pass a background check.

Do you think American voters don't understand or don't care that these unvetted yahoo tech bro incels have access to their data?

Sorry for gallows humor but of all the ways to go, an air crash is probably one of the better ones. Much like being too close to a nuclear blast.

Yes, we know. And those of us with an ounce of brains care a helluva lot. But at this point there's not much we can 'directly' do to stop it. But the mass protests are ramping up across the country at govt buildings and Congressional offices both in DC and at the offices of legislators across the country. And there as been a bit of walking back and/or 'we didn't mean that particular 'thing', it won't affect that".

One of the problems is that legislators are using legal means (ie the courts) to stop this rather than marching into various buildings with armed FPS officers and physically throwing out the DOGE Bros or intimidating them into leaving. And that's what DOGE is doing from what I can understand, using the FPS to intimidate employees into 'complying'.

The prime duty of FPS is to protect federal buildings and the security and safety federal employees. We had them at our office when I was working and they were a good and loyal group of people. I hate to think of them being used that way.

I repeat my point that all my life I have been told the reason for the second amendment was as a backstop to tyranny. Violence is never to be glorified and should always be the truly last resort. However as much as I admire and respect Gandhi's stance, it only makes sense if you believe in reincarnation.

And yet, the majority of farmers (not including the huge Ag conglomerates here) supported him. They couldn't see any farther than the ends of their collective noses. A real case of be careful what you wish vote for, you may just get it.

Funny that DOGE isn't focusing on farm subsidies. Oh wait, those benefit the Ag conglomerates, so are likely safe.

I'm absolutely NOT an economist. But if farmers can't sell their products to USAID, will that mean they will turn to American sources to sell? Then will we have a market glut and thus cheaper prices? Could that have been something they thought about so they could say "See!! We've reduced your food bill" to keep the Cult 'onside'?

Or will the famers simply let crops rot in the field, dump milk, and the like in order to keep the prices of their 'product' up? Or sell overseas?

SerendipityJane · 06/02/2025 17:18

And UK farmers were key Brexiteers.

From an armchair POV, who'd notice ? The ICC is one of those admirable ideas that was never going to work. The US famously would never submit to it's jurisdiction. And I can't see the UK doing so either. Or Tony Blair would be prancing about the world like some sort of revered rockstar.

PerkingFaintly · 06/02/2025 18:10

Very big step from not taking part to punishing people who "assist in ICC investigations of US citizens or US allies". And their families too.

If/when Trump declares Russia a US ally, that will immediately cover anyone who investigates Putin or anyone from Russia.

Has the US ever assisted in ICC investigations ?

I find it interesting just how much power POTUS has. Indeed I find it ironic that having evicted the British because of a tyrant Monarch who allowed businesses to trample roughshod over the rights of the colonists, the US has finally reverted to a tyrant Monarch who is allowing business to trample roughshod over the rights of it's citizens.

Proof - if needed - that whilst God doesn't exist, they certainly have a sense of humor.

Seems Paul Revere could have taken a pitstop after all. Hell he may as well have walked.

But we (certainly I) already knew the US doesn't really give a shit about international law. Did anyone seriously think otherwise ?

There is a fine line between shocking and honest.

Isn't Israel a US ally?

So people who have taken part in investigating Israel for possible war crimes could face financial and visa sanctions from the US?

Sounds about right.

That will be quite a few UK based lawyers then ?

Britain used to do this sort of thing.

If it's any consolation, it will be interesting to hear Kemi blather on about this rather than condemning it outright. Honestly, if this were 1940, she would be on the rooftops waving a torch around saying "Over there Fritz.". Farage would be doing the same only with a searchlight.

I would imagine that’s exactly what’s driving it.

cakeorwine · 06/02/2025 18:52

If a country has committed war crimes, should it be investigated?

Clearly it depends on the country.

All countries are equal.
But some are more equal than others.
