Are posters on the Feminist boards cheering this on?

BREAKING NEWS: CDC orders mass retraction and revision of submitted research across all science and medicine journals. Banned terms must be scrubbed. Goes beyond MMWR +other CDC pubs. Applies to research already submitted to top medical journals. Take a look.

No. Why should they?
Though they are relieved that the lies of genderism and their awful consequences for confused children, women in sport, and privacy, safety and dignity for women of all cultural backgrounds are being dismantled piecemeal.

I really feel for my friends in the states just now, so many of them are so afraid of how far this is going to go.

I'm happy to hear that.

My fear is that in order to treat an ingrowing toenail Trump's administration has decided that the only cure is to amputate both legs.

Chaos and corruption.
X is now state media.
Where are the dissenting voices?

Heather Cox Richardson's latest letter is stomach churning.
open.substack.com/pub/heathercoxrichardson/p/february-1-2025?r=4ji4tf&utm_medium=ios

Yes, Joyce Vance's was also stomach churning and they're both usually calm voices of reason.

WTF is happening? How can anyone be supporting this?

My worry is that most Americans get no actual news. It's all social media and OANN and Sinclair local news and Fox. They don't actually know what's happening.

Yes and now Trump is limiting access to the pressers to certain news outlets he doesn't like

Rather 1940s.....

Yes.

You know, there are members of the Republican party who aren't sex offenders who tried to overthrow democracy. Some of them even stood for nomination as Republican candidate – Nikki Haley springs to mind.

But the Republicans decided not to run her. They chose Trump.

If they thought their policies were any good (including the ones on genderism – and I too will be glad to see the back of TRAsim), then they could have run on those policies.

They could have run a candidate who didn't come with a history like Trump's, and who wasn't the candidate of Project 2025.

But they decided not to do that.

Maybe they thought that Haley wouldn't win the election with those policies.

Or maybe they really liked what the authoritarian sex-offender who doesn't believe in democracy was offering.

Elon Musk just promised to cut off social services by Lutheran Family Services.

Here in North Carolina, they handle a lot of foster care. So Elon musk is promising to cut off money to Foster children.

This is where inviting big business to the table of government ultimately leads. Again, the UK acted as the non canary in the coalmine here. It happened in our so called "democracy" and people got away with it.

"Aha !" they thought. Well if the mother of parliaments is so easy to shit on, how about the joke that is the US version of democracy ? You know: the one where it's first amendment this (but don't be a communist), second amendment that (but you can't own a tank) and so on.

I'm trying to write the history as it happens.

Last I saw discussing whether "non binary" counts as male or female

the UK has an official opposition
the USA does not
it shows

I found a press conference Schumer held on 29 January, describing the impacts of Trump halting federal funding, and describing the efforts they're co-ordinating to push back on this (legal actions, letter from Congress, actions people can take locally with their representatives).

LIVE: Chuck Schumer addresses Trump’s blocked federal funding pause
(starts about 16 mins in)

But it wasn't headline news in the UK and I didn't find it as headline news anywhere else. I had to go looking on Google, and could only do that because I was sure there would be something if I poked around enough.

In fact, the other coverage of it I found was by Sky News Australia taking the piss out of a few seconds' worth (but not mentioning anything else, like what the news conference was about):

Viral clip of Chuck Schumer's 'aroused' comment leaves TV host speechless

The choices the media make are so important – what to cover, what prominence to give it, and indeed what spin to give it.

This is a very good speech by Trudeau

https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=nLB46AR_O94

As President John F. Kennedy said many years ago, geography has made us neighbours. History has made us friends, economics has made us partners and necessity has made us allies.
That rang true for many decades prior to President Kennedy’s time in office, and in the decades since, from the beaches of Normandy to the mountains of the Korean Peninsula, from the fields of Flanders to the streets of Kandahar, we have fought and died alongside you during your darkest hours during the Iranian hostage crisis. Those 444 days, we worked around the clock from our embassy to get your innocent compatriots home.

During the summer of 2005, when Hurricane Katrina ravaged your great city of New Orleans, or mere weeks ago when we sent water bombers to tackle the wildfires in California. During the day, the world stood still, Sept. 11, 2001, when we provided refuge to stranded passengers and planes. We were always there, standing with you, grieving with you. The American people.

Together, we’ve built the most successful economic, military and security partnership the world has ever seen. A relationship that has been the envy of the world.

Yes, we’ve had our differences in the past, but we’ve always found a way to get past them. As I’ve said before, if President Trump wants to usher in a new golden age for the United States, the better path is to partner with Canada, not to punish us.

I know he's out there, giving long, boring, complacent, monotone speeches about how the roots of democracy run deep. They should be out there, giving the Republicans a run for their money with a non-stop barrage of messaging. It's truly a five alarm fire and he's reacting like it's a warm hob.

He's my senator and we've actually donated to his campaigns in the past. I just want to shake him out of his institutional complacency. I've been emailing his office every day - today I told him I hoped someone actually alive would primary him (assuming we have future elections).

We need Pete Buttigieg on Fox every day.

May you live in interesting times someone once said . It seems we are. The speed of it across the pond is incredible though.
