I know this will be inflammatory.
I got married at 27 .first child 29 second child 31.
I worked nanny's/ childminder then school childminders/after school nanny's.
There have been periods when I've been a sahm.

But we have worked as a team.
Now teenagers my dh is unable to work.
I can support everyone.
I pay for everything as he did when I was a sahm.
Difference is ill be doing this for the rest of my life.
You need a fall back. You may have a high earner. My dh earned £100k a year then nothing.due to disability.
You need to think about being able to support your family.
Before anyone pilles on we have a seviourly autistic child who can never leave home.

We have life insurance to include disability for this reason.

…good for you.

I think often a perspective changes if you go from a high income to a low income, as it’s a more dramatic change to acclimatise to, but like most ordinary folk who earn an average wage, both men and women, it’s a non issue.

Is there always a point to a thread? Maybe I just want to vent.
Life is getting more difficult . Expenses teenagers. Dh has no pension. Everything is on me.

Ok, £70k is above threshold for UC, but that doesn’t mean your DH can’t get anything

PIP isn’t means tested, so your DH should claim it.

In addition, contribution based ESA is also not means tested so he could claim that until it runs out and then he can do a NI credits only ESA claim where he still accrues NI years towards the full state pension.

In addition, once he has PIP he may be eligible get a council tax reduction for you all. He may be able to get a blue badge and free bus pass.

We have life insurance to include disability for this reason.

We do too, but it would only replace 40% of our individual wage.
Which is great, but would cause some financial stress.
