The strangest reason you've been denied entry to a nightclub

What's the strangest reason you've been turned away from a pub or nightclub?

Last night I was turned away from a night club because I had a mini sombrero in my handbag. 😂😂
Apparently it indicated I was out as part of a group and they weren't letting groups in.

It was just me and my husband.

(I had the sombrero because we'd been to a Mexican themed birthday party and I took one of the decorations home for my little boy)

Lol, love it 😆

Blueyfan4life · 19/01/2025 10:46

Cultural appropriation seems a reasonable reason to ban someone

FoxtonFoxton · 19/01/2025 10:47

Haha! I want a mini sombrero!
I haven't to be honest, other than a few times when I tried to get in at 15 in the 90s -for being very obviously 15. Most of the time then they'd let us in anyway knowing we were underage. Different times!

Yeah that was the reason the door staff gave I'm sure 🙄🙄

That's mad OP.

Mind you, I read it as you had a mini Solero in your bag and wondered how it didn't melt! 🙈🤣

I'm not sure you understand that term if you think going to a Mexican themed restaurant for someone's birthday is cultural appropriation.

I had a table decoration in my bag. Thats all 🤷🏼‍♀️

😂 cultural appropriation being thrown about in completely the wrong context as usual.

As a hen party of ten in a restaurant with a club downstairs, they had accepted our booking as a hen do then didn't want to let us in the club. None of us were pissed or causing trouble and we looked very glamorous. We just went to one of the other myriad clubs in Manchester.

I don't think that place lasted another 12 months.

Overtheatlantic · 19/01/2025 10:55

At 32 we were both too old. 😳

It's very cute. It's fits in the palm of my hand!

I'm 43 so it's been a long time since I've been turned away for being too young 😂

Me and DH couldn't stop laughing. Not sure that's the reaction they usually get. Thankfully another place didn't have an issue with contents of my bag so I still got to dance!

When we were young, a group of 8 of us, 5 women and 3 men. The women were allowed in, and men weren't, as they didn't want people in fancy dress. One of the men was in shirt and trousers, but the other two were wearing the same outfits as the women...

In fairness it was so cold last night it would have probably survived!

I was once on a hen do and we were told we could only come into one pub if we switched off the lights on the brides tiara 😂

Yes, they objected to my (small) penis necklace and rainbow tiara. Actually they did let us in once I removed these items but it was absolutely dead and we just went elsewhere.

CurlewKate · 19/01/2025 11:10

Because I have a cat.

That's not true, obviously.
But that's what I told people so I could go home to my cat and be in bed by 10.00.

mynameiscalypso · 19/01/2025 11:12

A friend wasn't allowed in once because he was wearing golfing attire.

TickingAlongNicely · 19/01/2025 11:14

We were once asked if we were from Sheffield at a nightclub in Scotland. We lied and said we were from Leeds so were allowed in.

I've heard of pubs banning football colours but golfing attire is a new one!

I wonder what their issue with Sheffield was?!

Shocking!
I once went to a fancy club in London. They let us in the club but we weren't considered attractive enough for the dance floor 😂

My 2 male colleagues got refused entry for "being too old" yet I, 10 years older than them didn't, i would have been 41/42 at the time and probably looked roughly that, they didn't look "old for age" either. Plain old sexism

LivingDeadGirlUK · 19/01/2025 11:28

I was once told I was only being allowed in wearing trainers because they were having a beach party.

Got turned away from Berghain for no reason, I assume like thousands of other people.

It was rumoured that a group from Sheffield was there to cause trouble. It was a false rumour, hence we were all lying! We were actually quite peaceful.. party hard but behave well sorts.

(We actually made the tabloids for our supposed conduct on other occasions, but none of it actually happened... orgies fir example!)
