The strangest reason you've been denied entry to a nightclub

What's the strangest reason you've been turned away from a pub or nightclub?

Last night I was turned away from a night club because I had a mini sombrero in my handbag. 😂😂
Apparently it indicated I was out as part of a group and they weren't letting groups in.

It was just me and my husband.

(I had the sombrero because we'd been to a Mexican themed birthday party and I took one of the decorations home for my little boy)

Turns out many clubs in London require ID for everyone. The first time I got asked for ID as a 40 something with other 40 something they were simply ‘everyone needs ID’. Dirty Martini will accept a photo of said ID, but not Roadhouse. 😉

I was once told I was only being allowed in wearing trainers because they were having a beach party.

Got turned away from Berghain for no reason, I assume like thousands of other people.

Being turned away from Berghain is a rite of passage! 😅

😂 cultural appropriation being thrown about in completely the wrong context as usual.

Yes but be safe in the knowledge they can now chalk up another point on their virtue signalling board before having a right on day

I have only been turned away once when I was 16 and my fake I.D. Got busted as the holograms were too shiny! It had worked elsewhere all night which was annoying!

HangingOver · 19/01/2025 12:52

For eating McDonald's (fair).

I've been thrown out of a fair few as a student. For minesweeping (fair), throwing lit cigarettes off the balcony (definitely not, wasn't me), puking (again, wasn't me), hitting a man who grabbed my arse in the bar queue (definitely was me).

ilovepixie · 19/01/2025 13:01

I've never been turned away from a night club. Even the big ones in Ibiza when I was a fat 50+ year old! I was kicked out of one because I fell over a man's foot and they thought I was drunk!

Ah you say that but they know better. You and your husband are obvs part of a cartel, you dodgy people, you!

Pertinentowl · 19/01/2025 13:09

I want to see the mini sombrero

Damn, we've been busted!
I knew that Sombrero from Temu would be my downfall!!

The offending Sombrero..... but without the headband as they were used as table decorations rather than headwear.

I expect they thought the OP bowled in with a tiny table decoration on her head, playing the Mexican Hat Dance on a 5 string guitar 🤭

In the 1990s for wearing doc martens. 😁

I've been thrown out of McDonald's for drinking a pint of lager, so it's swings and roundabouts 😏😁

Sidebeforeself · 19/01/2025 13:29

@SerenityNowSerenityNow I’m impressed you wanted to go to a night club at all! Im just a bit older than your DH and I wanted my bed and a cocoa last night!

Sidebeforeself · 19/01/2025 13:30

@HangingOver Was that all in one night?!😆

Cheepcheepcheep · 19/01/2025 13:33

For being painted blue (I was dressed as a Smurf and wearing blue body paint. I take their point).

On the flip side (this is so outing if you know me but whatever), a bouncer once deemed me too drunk to come in (may have been true). I politely asked if his manager could review the decision. Manager came over and asked me what DNA stood for. I answered correctly. He let me in 😂

AgualusasLover · 19/01/2025 13:33

I have been kicked out once, in Mallorca. I went in only because we had a free drink token, wasn’t where we planned to spend the evening. Sat down on a free stool to drink my free drink, bloke comes over, apparently I was in his seat. I explained this was not a theatre, he went away and 5 mins later poured a beer over my head. I managed to tell him to do one and sat back down to finish my drink. He poured a second beer over me, we had an altercation, he reported me to the bouncer and I was kicked out. He was about 6ft and I was 5ft and tiny but the bouncer said ‘Little girls can do damage too.’

This is the only fight I have EVER had in my entire life.

Oh I still love going out dancing. I often cannot say no to after party post work events. I also then end up unable to move for about two days, but I have so much fun.

YouWouldntKnowWhatIMean · 19/01/2025 13:37

When DH and I used to go out, he got denied entry loads of times for the "wrong" shoes. Funnily enough we went to a club for my birthday one year and there were about 15 or so of us. DH went first and got denied entry and as soon as the rest of us left the queue, they changed their minds and let us in! This was a small, shit club in a small town so they clearly needed the custom!
I also once got turned away for being "too drunk". Fine except - I hadn't had any alcohol at all! I was the designated driver! When I tried to explain this the bouncers all just kept laughing unpleasantly over me. And one of the friends I was there with was so drunk she'd wrapped her scarf round her head and was bellowing show tunes at the top of her voice, yet they were happy to let her in?! I was so offended! We left and I never, ever went back there (I'm sure they didn't give a shit but still!).

Wintershealing · 19/01/2025 13:38

SerenityNowSerenityNow · 19/01/2025 12:05

Nope, they specifically said it was because it was obviously part of a fancy dress outfit and indicated we were out as part of a group and they weren't letting any more groups in.
I explained that it was a party decoration given to me by a friend and I was taking it home for my little boy.

We started laughing once we'd been told we definitely weren't allowed in and were walking away so that didn't factor into their decision.
We weren't pissed or behaving as though we were. We didn't argue or get bolshy, we just walked away and went somewhere else.

This is so funny! Did they think you had a fancy dress costume on under your clothes or something! Waiting for the moment you and a mystery group of people who had also stuck in could suddenly reveal your ponchos and start singing La Bamba whilst swaying maracas in true stereotypical style! 😂😂 🪇

CuriousGeorge80 · 19/01/2025 13:42

I wasn't allowed into GAY once for not being gay, despite very much being gay. It's a tough one to prove in a queue for a club!

CharlotteStreetW1 · 19/01/2025 13:47

mynameiscalypso · 19/01/2025 11:12

A friend wasn't allowed in once because he was wearing golfing attire.

And rightly so!

Not me but a male mate who wasn't wearing a collar wasn't allowed in.

I was wearing a top with a collar so I took my top off in the toilets (ground floor) and passed it through the window. Had to stay in the loo until he was in and it could be returned. He did buy me a drink by way of thanks.

(I was a size 1 6 so it did fit 😳)

Youtookmyhandle · 19/01/2025 13:57

I've always avoided nightclubs. I tried to enter one a long time ago but was turned away as I was wearing trainers. I did ask who the fuck would look at my feet but apparently, they had strict rules regarding bloody footwear. This was no upmarket place, just a small, shitty nightclub in the valleys.

GoBackToPartyCity · 19/01/2025 14:01

I was carrying a denim jacket, and they didn’t allow people wearing denim into club. Tried to argue that I wasn’t technically wearing it and that I was going to put in the cloakroom. Didn’t work, had to leave!
