The strangest reason you've been denied entry to a nightclub

What's the strangest reason you've been turned away from a pub or nightclub?

Last night I was turned away from a night club because I had a mini sombrero in my handbag. 😂😂
Apparently it indicated I was out as part of a group and they weren't letting groups in.

It was just me and my husband.

(I had the sombrero because we'd been to a Mexican themed birthday party and I took one of the decorations home for my little boy)

Not a nightclub but I was refused entry to a restaurant for wearing trousers Hmm

TaggieO · 19/01/2025 14:04

Just to add - they were very smart trousers!

Cultural appropriation seems a reasonable reason to ban someone

I've been thrown out of McDonald's for drinking a pint of lager, so it's swings and roundabouts 😏😁

Oh god that's just brought back a shameful memory of my and my uni bestie rolling out the club straight over the road into McDs, ordering a value meal and chanting "no one ever wants the drink". A fair few joined in.

My DH was stood outside a bar that had a nightclub upstairs waiting for a friend - he’d come straight from work so was in a suit. Lots of youngsters started lining up outside, and after a while one of them asked DH if they could please go in now?

DH had to explain that he wasn’t a bouncer, he had been wondering why they were stood outside in the cold.

😂😁😂

With a donkey in tow?

Yes, I can't think why they wouldn't let the OP in? 🤔

Oh and my MIL got carded at a bar in the US - she didn’t have ID on her so couldn’t prove she was over 21 and was denied entry.

If only she’d had her bus pass with her (she was mid 60s at the time).

4FoxxSake · 19/01/2025 14:27

Football shirt, so I took it off and went in wearing a bra, that was ok 🤣

I was pregnant. Visibly showing. Apparently it wouldn't be safe 💃🏻🪩⛔

I wasn’t allowed in the Craft Beer Co for the same reason! I was with a group of non-pregnant friends, and they do sell plenty of non-alcoholic drinks… we all had to sit at a table outside, which is apparently totally different and fine for pregnant women.

Turns out many clubs in London require ID for everyone. The first time I got asked for ID as a 40 something with other 40 something they were simply ‘everyone needs ID’. Dirty Martini will accept a photo of said ID, but not Roadhouse. 😉

That’s a licensing restriction, not to do with your age - they have to keep a copy for the police, in the event of any drugs/violence. Not great from a personal information perspective.

Huh? The Mexican restaurant we go to, they hand out Sombreroes for the whole table to wear when it's a birthday. That isn't cultural appropriation. I did laugh at the thought of the door staff turning Op away saying, "Sorry love, can't come in, no cultural appropriation going on here, you with your mini sombrero".

SerenityNowSerenityNow · 19/01/2025 14:57

Some of these stories are brilliant. They've given me a chuckle today.

Me and DH are die hard party animals. We don't go out as often as we used to and it takes us longer to recover but it's worth it!

I have no idea what the bouncers thought I was going to do but considering we were in the gay village there were people dressed far more outlandishly than me!!

He should of charged them all a tenner and let them in 😂😂

WhoWhereWhatWhy · 19/01/2025 15:56

I couldn’t prove my age with something that had my DOB on it.

I was 48yo (and definitely look it) and had credit/debit cards on me. I was part of a group of six, and the rest could all prove that they were 47+ yo.

The club was for 18+.

TabbyBeast · 19/01/2025 15:58

A guy I know was denied entry to a club because he WASN'T wearing trainers!

FaithFables · 19/01/2025 16:07

When I was 19 i went to a club I'd been going to since I was 16. Never been IDed before. Got IDed and because I didn't have any (it was the 90s, did anyone?) they wouldn't let me in. Confused I think I'd obviously gotten to old for the bouncers.😂

HerbertVonDoodlebug · 19/01/2025 16:17

In the 90s, friend and I denied entry to a trendy London club for not wearing smart footwear.

Pointed out that the man in front of us was let in, and he was wearing sandals.

Doorman: “Yes, but he’s Bob Dylan’s son”

SerenityNowSerenityNow · 19/01/2025 16:25

I wasn't wearing it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Relaxaholic · 19/01/2025 16:31

My friend and I were once refused entry because we weren’t wearing heels. We both had sparkly flat sandals. My friend informed the bouncer that he was being discriminatory because we may have had a physical reason for not wearing heels but he wouldn’t change his mind.

My DH (then boyfriend) was refused entry into a club in Australia because his shirt had flowers on it. It was a nice shirt!

Gone12 · 19/01/2025 16:32

I've been never been denied entry to a nightclub or pub.

Captainj1 · 19/01/2025 16:50

For wearing roller boots. I was on an 80s themed hen do. To be fair I was pretty unsteady 🤣

Yes, I do find it mental though that since I don’t drive I have to allow them to scan my actual passport. That’s just nuts. To be fair, I hadn’t been dancing for quite some time before this happened so was new to me.
