I always find this fascinating.

Period features
SUVs
Buying new baby clothes/decorating a nursery.

What else?

@TurtleJellyFence I could ask...I do know several Whippet owners with cats, and they actually curl up together!
It looks so gorgeous seeing them intertwined, but one of these owners said their Whippets can chase strange cats out of their garden...so it seems as if they get used to ''their'' cat and can be sillier with cats they don't know.

I took my Whippet to my brothers house, he has two Burmese, and they advanced in a pincer movement towards my Whippet so I picked her up as didn't want her scratched..Brother's Cats live with a dog and are very bossy with the dog
The cats were there first, and the dog was swiped into submission by the cats.

One friend says her family had a Burmese cat with Whippets who was Queen of the household.

Burmese and Bengals and a big fat fluffy Ginger cat are the cats I know who live happily with Whippets.

However, if your Whippet has a strong prey drive, it might be tricky and unfair on a cat to bring one in to the house, as your Whippet will be quite territorial.

A fox kit entered our house a couple of summers ago- The Whippet chased the Fox out - thankfully both were unharmed. {they were about the same size but the fox had a larger set of teeth} Whippet wasn't wearing a collar so I couldn't grab her - she spotted the fox before I did.

Prey drive is turbo sharp as we live in the country surrounded by bunnies. He's off like a rocket if he see's any cats on farm. I agree it wouldn't be fair to a cat! Saying that, life is tough, I think I'm one and done, and no more pets! Hahah

Define "snobby."

You mean having standards and not leading life to the absolute lowest common denominator??

colinthedogfromaccounts · 19/01/2025 02:25

London......there's a post slagging it off at least once at week, it's tiresome.

nobodysdaughter · 19/01/2025 03:15

Tattoos. Expressing an extreme dislike of them is clearly meant to show how refined, and cultured the poster is, when to me it is quite the reverse. I'm always surprised how close minded and ignorant mn can be about the art form.

I find the anger directed to those that make a chicken last strange. We roast a chicken and get 4 meals out of it (there is three of us, one being a toddler).

Also the hatred for ‘flowery’ names (my child has one). They are actually upper class. My friends all have names like Florence, Lettice, Georgiana etc.

Making friends at the school gate. The preferred position is to be far too busy with your important job put In your head phones and to glare at the other mothers who are all pathetic coffee morning attending drama queens who just happened to have sex when you did. In reality I met some of my best friends there!

It's just as tiresome to read posts from Londoners who think that anywhere outside of the M25 is a cultural desert.

The snobbery I read on here about northerners is breathtakingly ignorant. You can't blame them for being defensive.

(From a Londoner who now lives in the north)

Spelling and grammar. Once you see it you can't unsee it, but the responses a post gets when the poster is articulate and doesn't make any noticeable errors compared to one with errors is wild.

The people who correct quite serious posts are the worst.

  • My husband pushed me down the stairs last night I'm worried the kids could have seen.
  • Actually it's could have Hmm

There's a full multitude of reasons why people make errors and I just think the correctors look like absolute dicks who've never met a person with a regional dialect, an EAL speaker or a person with a learning difficulty.

I've noticed this too. Most mumsnet users have really good grammar compared to other sites like Facebook etc but the flip side is some are SO pedantic about it.

I also hate seeing posters who post about serious issues getting shitty responses that you know they wouldn't get if their grammar was perfect

TheaBrandt · 19/01/2025 08:44

I don’t think I have ever seen a thread where Londoners criticise other areas to be fair many the other way round. When I moved to London in my twenties I was surprised how socially acceptable it was for people to slag off London to my face but it would have been extremely rude and unacceptable for me to say the same things about the city I was moving from. Only works one way.

TickingAlongNicely · 19/01/2025 08:49

Oreyt · 18/01/2025 23:10

I'm not sure it's snobby but people have spoken down to me for having children with someone in the military and not moving around with him.

I've done trailing spouse and Unaccompanied, both are equally looked down upon and judged

Simply having a husband in the Forces is judged (or police)... apparently they are all murderous, cheating potential rapists.

fanaticalfairy · 19/01/2025 08:55

Ham.

It's poison, apparently.

Yes. As a dyslexic (who thanks their lucky stars for spell check but things can sometimes slip through the net) having a poster sometimes make their only contribution to a thread a pick apart of my spelling really doesn't make me feel great.
