Op: I’m starting a new role where the dress code is business smart. I’ve only ever worn jeans and T-shirts in previous jobs. Help please
Comment: I’ve always wfh so only wear loungewear

Op: John Doe has died, that’s so sad.
Comment: I’ve never heard of John Doe

Op: Lunch ideas please. I’m unable to eat bread or legumes.
Many many comments: I have beans on toast. Lentil soup is my go to. I love pita & hummus. Just make a sandwich.

On and on and on 😩

A poster writes about a work issue and all the replies are just moral judgments based on personal opinion....with no regard at all to actual employment law.

Law advice is so dodgy here. If it weren't an serious issue some would actually be hilarious 🤦

TheYeaSayer · 23/01/2025 08:54

Can’t recall if it’s come up already yet, but this often happens on a Style and Beauty thread…

OP: How would you style this shirt?

Poster: I’d style it by putting it in the bin.

Why post? Is it because you enjoy being a twat?

I was just looking at this. Unbelievable that several people do this. Wtf are they trying to achieve?

And consumer law - "well, businesses can do what they like".

No they can't.

SabreIsMyFave · 23/01/2025 22:02

When a poster says 'are you me?!' Just because the OP has a similar story to something that's happened to them. Angry I hate that!

StarlightLady · 23/01/2025 22:18

@SabreIsMyFave - Sounds like a quick way to explain empathy to me and show they are not the only one. What on earth is the problem with that? It is neither rude, insulting or patronising, unlike many of the examples up thread.

LuckyMoonstone · 23/01/2025 22:22

OP: one minor personality flaw has emerged one time

reply: you need to see your GP

yeah I’ll just call my own personal GP directly right now and schedule in a therapy session asap

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 23/01/2025 22:34

OP: I couldn't go to work the other day because my head fell off, and now my colleague is annoyed. What should I say to them?

Replies: you should go into work, I often walk into work despite having no arms or legs, you're lazy.

I always think it' s the other way around! More like:

OP: Urgh, I have hay fever and my eyes are watering at work

Reply: Are you 100% it's hay fever? You could be spreading who knows what all around in the office and on public transport. You really should have stayed home

But conversely:
OP: One of my colleagues sneezed today at work. AIBU to think she should have wfh?

Replies: Omg YANBU, she's so selfish! Of course she should of stayed home hun. I would take a covid test every day for the next week and wear a mask just in case she's passed it on. People like your colleague are why our NHS is on it's knees!
(Spag mistakes for deliberate hyperbolic effect...)

MalleusMaleficarumm · 24/01/2025 09:40

When people post threads about child behaviour, there are always replies saying that the child in question must be SEN and need to be assessed.

Also on health problems, bloody coconut oil being suggested as a cure! Piles? Coconut oil? Fungal nail? Coconut oil! IBS? Coconut oil!

And mother in laws are always evil witches, never the OP being totally unreasonable and they must go NC immediately.

People who state they are OCD. No, you’re not. OCD is something you have, not something you are and it’s a potentially very debilitating mental illness, not a personality quirk that means you like things being neat and tidy or a reason to justify snooping on your partner because you ‘are ocd about being cheated on’.

Indeed. This grinds my gears. OCD is a potentially debilitating condition that has to be diagnosed by an appropriate clinician; it doesn’t mean you’re very fussy about keeping your kitchen tidy!

I'm looking for beauty products to help with xyz.

I just wash my face with water, I've only ever used water every day for the past 30 years, I don't bother with anything else. Save your money.

I'm all for minimalism but this tickles me so much.

😂😂😂

Agree, MN is not the place for legal advice 😂 There are much better forums online with professionals happy to volunteer advice.

Hillcrest2022 · 24/01/2025 11:15

OMG I'm only half way through the thread but these are making me laugh out loud !!!

MangoAndMelon · 24/01/2025 13:40

Also, any foreigner in relationship with Brit is with her/him just for visa and/or passport.
Doesn't matter he/she have strong EU passport, or weak Syrian one. All in it for visa and/or passport.

Kbroughton · 25/01/2025 07:22

Ironically I haven't read every page so this may have been done. It's not even really a FFS because it's sad but i have seen loads of these and particulary in the last few days:

OP: my relationship is generally great, my DH is amazing and kind and lovely. But every so often he says i am fat ugly and lazy and also has a close female friend who he speaks to more than me.

Not a great relationship then. And usually they won't listen to listen saying that. I find it really sad.

Oh god there is one running currently - great relationship except four years in she is the sole earner, and he literally won’t life a finger to even pick his own socks off the floor. He just sits around the house “talking about geopolitics” while she pays all the bills, does all the cooking, cleaning and other housework, and provides sex on tap. She even takes responsibility for charging his car and making his dental appointments because the poor lamb can’t be fucked. Yep, best relationship she’s ever had apparently.

OP: Just found out that DH has been messaging sex workers. I’m in shock. I thought we were really happy and we’ve just bought a new house together.

30 replies: LTB

(Two days later)

Why haven’t you left him yet, OP?

Yes! Or an OP who has been married for a hundred years, kids, joint everything.
Some snarky poster will come along and be like "don't waste your time giving OP advice, it's obviously she's never going to leave".

Like, give her time to get her head around it FFS!

Exactly, like you can just stroll out the door that same day with the kids in tow!

These types of (related) thread always make me a bit Hmm:
OP: [describes very minor disagreement with OH]. AIBU?
MN: is this a one-off or is he always like this?
OP: describes other minor issues.
MN: he doesn't sound great.
OP: well, I suppose he does hit me sometimes. I love him though and he's an amazing dad.
MN: this sounds like abuse OP.
OP: oh yeah and there was the time he [describes multiple awful behaviors far worse than in the first post].
MN: LTB! You have a much bigger problem than whose job is it to unload the dishwasher!
OP: yeah I've known for a while deep down that I should leave.
OP then posts regular dramatic updates that same day describing her packing and leaving. It usually involves her surreptitiously using MN because 200 posts in her OH is suddenly terrifying and violent.

These sorts of posts are annoying because they're so blatantly made up and make it more difficult for some of the genuine posters seeking help from abuse to be taken seriously (people expecting live updates, instant action etc).

And find a rental property that fits with her budget, work and the DC’s schooling - because regardless of what the LTB posters might think, the UK is not awash with cheap, available rental properties.

This. "Just move out, OP, or ask him to leave" and go where exactly??

RamsaySnowsSausage · 25/01/2025 14:22

I disagree with a previous poster about 'imagining the genders reversed'. There's thousands of years of sexism, persecution, laws, religion etc. that strongly influence culture today meaning that imagining the sexes reversed is not a useful exercise. Not to mention biological reality. So it annoys me when someone brings it up as a gotcha. There's legitimate reasons not to compare apples to oranges. It's not hypocrisy, it's understanding context.

I once got a snotty email telling me I'd spelled grammar wrong...in a thread about abusive relationships. Read the room, mate 😆

dynamiccactus · 25/01/2025 15:34

Actually I dislike "read the room". People are allowed to disagree with the prevailing opinion.

More lightheartedly - occasionally the world is wrong and I am right (eg the time everyone on the street put their bins out but I knew it was going to be a day later that week so I didn't) Grin
