Op: I’m starting a new role where the dress code is business smart. I’ve only ever worn jeans and T-shirts in previous jobs. Help please
Comment: I’ve always wfh so only wear loungewear

Op: John Doe has died, that’s so sad.
Comment: I’ve never heard of John Doe

Op: Lunch ideas please. I’m unable to eat bread or legumes.
Many many comments: I have beans on toast. Lentil soup is my go to. I love pita & hummus. Just make a sandwich.

On and on and on 😩

Don't see it much now but my 2 favourites were

LTB - for the most minor inconvenience

Or

POLICE. NOW - always written in capital letters, and again, over the most minor interaction

🤣🤣🤣

MurdoMunro · 22/01/2025 09:59

To add to the POLICE NOW comment - I don’t understand the ‘log it with 101’ thing. I suppose most mean that it’s useful to have a series of reports that they can draw on later if needed. But I wonder if some people think it’s more than that, or some kind of solution to the immediate problem. I get the sense that many people think police officers get a ping every time one of these comes in and they take action to go about doing something with it.

Edit - missed a word out.

I have just found out my husband is cheating, we have two young children and I thought our relationship was good I’m so hurt and confused and need a hand hold

response I wouldn’t put up with that I’m not a doormat but thats just me

why reply the op wasn’t in anyway asking for peoples opinions on themselves

That's made me think of one that I think is the opposite side of the same coin

Putting "please no negative comments" after an OP along the line of:

"I have been cheating with a married man for the last 4 years. My husband did nothing wrong but want take the house and everything from him, how can I maximise what I get?"

You're forgetting

'Do you have any children,OP?'

And 'Are you married?'

My 2 yr old daughter has a pain in her leg.

perhaps he’s broken his arm, how old is he?

This had me in fits! So true!

Bringmeahigherlove · 22/01/2025 14:32

“I have a friend, let’s call her Julie.” Well is her name Julie!? Even if it isn’t we are not to know so a simple “my friend Julie!!!” Is fine!! Grrrrrrrr.

I think if you don't add the 'let's call her' or '(not her real name)', you get posters advising you to edit your post so as not to get outed.

TheGoddessFrigg · 17/01/2025 12:19

Two that make my teeth ache:

'Didn't want to read and run'. It's the internet- you are under no obligation and nobody cares

AND

'OP, don't listen to the other posters...', Just SO egotistical

I particularly hate the ‘didn’t want to read and run, I’m sure someone else will be along who can help’ utterly pointless. Same with ‘ignore those other posters, listen only to MEEEE!!!’ such arrogance! I’d like to add ‘going against the grain here…’ 😡

Yes, this. And if you gave them obviously made up names, like 3 friends Aloysius, Barnaby and Catullus who are being mean to Dionysius, you'd get people saying "these names are very unusual, this must be outing!"

"This has got to be a reverse"
Has there actually ever been a reverse on MN? (Genuine question)

Is this a reverse? It’s been you along hasn’t it, reversing all over the boards. We’ve got your number lady 🤣

Whydoeseveryonewanttoargue · 17/01/2025 14:05

It’s a personal thing but the FFS moments for me it’s the ridiculous overuse of catastrophic language to over make a point.

“I was heartbroken when my kid fell down”
”I was devastated my kid lost their jumper”

etc etc.

I tend to lose sympathy for the exaggerated language and emotion.

Exactly this! Oh, the drama!! I often wonder how these people will cope when anything bad ACTUALLY happens?! I hide more than I read these days….

JandamiHash · 22/01/2025 18:38

When someone posts that they’re in debt and some unhelpful arsehole comes on to tell them they’re a thief. I wonder, do people start having a better day when they say things like that?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 22/01/2025 18:42

godmum56 · 22/01/2025 18:03

I don't doubt you, but I've never seen one that got caught out & admitted. Can anyone link to one, just so I know what it looks like?

Yes. Quite a few. Well annoying. Deleted soon after usually

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/01/2025 19:07

When whatever the OP, someone replies, ‘Why do you even care?’

SabreIsMyFave · 22/01/2025 21:50

HolidayAtNight · 22/01/2025 08:47

Rapidly rising to the top of the annoying list: "Use your words." Stupid, patronising, over-simplifying slogan that ignores the vast amount of nonverbal communication everyone (including people who say it) uses and interprets daily, or that words can be twisted and misinterpreted too, either by mistake or by design.

Oh I HATE this! I was coming on here to say this. Someone just put it on a thread running right now, about someone who doesn't want to go for a meal on a first date. First response was 'use your words!'

God it really fucking winds me up! 😂

SabreIsMyFave · 22/01/2025 21:57

Also... 'Gently OP.......' And 'Kindly OP.........' Often followed by a pretty sharp remark! Really annoying! Hmm

Wonderwall23 · 22/01/2025 22:09

A poster writes about a work issue and all the replies are just moral judgments based on personal opinion....with no regard at all to actual employment law.

DalzielOrNoDalzielAndDontPascoe · 22/01/2025 23:39

OP: "It was unusually sunny for a March Sunday morning here in North Yorkshire where I've lived for 53 years, so, as I didn't have to be at work for my shift until 2pm, I decided I would get ready early and go for a walk through the beautiful countryside on the edge of my town, before going for a wonderful big roast dinner at the rural pub. It was amazing, and huge - I didn't have any room later for any tea. What simple pleasures do other people enjoy?"

Several replies: "That makes no sense whatsoever - it can't be true. Is this your first post, OP? Are you a troll? Why would you even make up stupid lies like this? How could you possibly go for dinner before starting work at 2pm? And what do you mean about having no room for tea? You really are pathetic, OP - how could you not even have room for one hot drink? Do you have a cushy desk job? Why would you even bother to come on here and write such unintelligible nonsense?"

HolidayAtNight · 22/01/2025 23:53

Another one which unfortunately seems to be on the rise: "This is on you."

ifIwerenotanandroid · 23/01/2025 00:24

Thanks - interesting. I've seen a few 'this has to be a reverse, surely', but never seen an actual one in the wild. Much appreciated.
