And peri seems to last some people about twenty years.

I started getting symptoms in my early 40s and I am still having periods at almost 56. I’m absolutely done with this fucking perimenopause.

Do you think the flushes and dizziness are connected to the menopause, if you're in your 70s? Have you spoken to a doctor about that?

yes and yes. Apparently its not uncommon....not just GP saying that. I am a retired clinician and have done my own proper research

sympathy because I have been there.

CountTo10 · 19/01/2025 20:56

Q: Can you recommend a foundation for someone over 50?
A: I don't wear foundation. I don't like make-up.

So why bother to answer? Some people really think the whole world revolves around them.

Oh, and ‘could it be peri?’

Peri-what??
Perinatal? Peri-arrest? Peri-operative?
Obviously I know they mean peri-menopause, but the inappropriate use of the prefix ‘peri’ irritates me! Maybe I’m peri…

I hate this with a passion too!

'I'm peri right now.'

'Could it be peri?'

'Sounds like peri.'

Just really jars me too!

I had never even heard of peri menopausal until a decade ago. Why is it called that? Why not just pre-menopausal?! That's what it's always been? Why do they insist on making up new names for old things?!

I started in perimenopause around 30 years ago and it was called perimenopause then

I'm an author and I get a lot (well, maybe not a LOT, but a fair few) of reviews for my books in the nature of 'haven't started reading it yet, but cute cover! 3*'. I don't think they realise that this pulls our overall ranking down! Wait until you've read the book, then comment - but Amazon messages you when you've just downloaded/had it delivered, before you could reasonably be expected to have read the damn thing.

Ds used his Christmas money to buy a pair of personalised Nike trainers. We did it on my account. It's a 6 week process so you choose your personalisation then they make them up, probably in China, then they get dispatched. Did the order on the Sunday. On Monday, I received an email from Nike asking me "how did we do?". I don't know. You haven't even started making the bloody shoes and I won't see them for weeks still!!!!

@stayathomer "Op worries about young child walking to school alone
replies- oh my god kids are so coddled nowadays- I walked to school as a toddler!!"

That usually then unleashes a flood of Monty Python four Yorkshireman style competitive replies, "a toddler? Christ you didn't know you were born. I walked to school as a foetus!

'Peri' means 'around', not 'before', so 'pre-' isn't quite the same thing... which suggests it goes on not only before, but after too!! And above and below for good measure! Lucky us!!

OP- my DH does nothing, neglects the children, works 90 hrs a week, earning 6 figure sum, I'm exhausted from the mental load
Mn- leave him and rest when he has the children 50/50..

Oh yes! It ASTOUNDS me how many people on here seem to think that 'he'll have to have them 50/50/EOW' is like some kind of law! If he's not bothered now, he'll be even less bothered when you split up - be prepared to have your kids 100% of the time and for him to bugger off into the sunset...probably not the reply the OP would want to hear though.

InSearchOfMartin · 20/01/2025 09:50

"I didn't want to read and run" - NOBODY WOULD KNOW IF YOU DID!

"You're nuts/have too much time on your hands/get a hobby" - you wouldn't have the bottle to say this to a poster in real life!

InSearchOfMartin · 20/01/2025 10:16

"Cringing/scarlet/mortified for you OP" - no you aren't, you don't know or care about the OP, you're just having a laugh at the thread!

SatinHeart · 20/01/2025 13:46

Haven't rtft, but just seen one of the classic thread formats:

OP: AIBU?

Everyone: Yes, as it happens YABVU

OP: No I'm not. None of you have read my posts properly. You're all a bunch of idiots.

Everyone: So why exactly did you start the thread?

LadyDanburysHat · 20/01/2025 14:56

CruCru · 19/01/2025 10:38

On most threads about sex - where something about sex with a particular partner isn’t the OP’s cup of tea, there will usually be a couple of posters who say something like:

”Well, I LOVE sex! I am a properly sexy lady and I like everything about sex! You should be more like me or your partner will leave you! For someone who likes lots of SEX!!!”

Or the opposite, when someone posts about doing something for the first time. They are wrong to even consider it, and their partner is clearly abusive.

Also, why are you posting about sex, troll? When they have posted in the sex topic.

Problems at work? find a new job,

All of the things are so casually suggested as if they are instantaneous
eg get a new job...like you'd be able to find something the next day! (Or wouldn't haveva notice period)
LTB - for all but very abusive situations, this would also take a lot of consideration and planning ...
If someone can't afford their bills and needs money quickly "move to a cheaper area" ...🙄
