I want a regular treat for myself

...But I'm not sure what.

Like a magazine subscription without being a magazine.

Something I can look forward to each month that will make me smile and requires no effort from me to go out and get, but also not like a regular bunch of postal flowers either.

Does any one know of anything or have any suggestions?

Does such a thing exist?

Mind do a subscription box £7.50 pet month. It's called Pause, little something different to do each month.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 15/01/2025 13:05

My current treat is a Lego subscription from a place called Brickborrow. Its like old school Netflix when they used to actually send you DVDs. So pick a set, they send it to you. You build it, keep it for a while, disassemble it and post it back. Once they get it back you can pick another one

£15 a month, plus postage, and I usually get two sets a month. Much cheaper than buying it, and I don't have to worry about where to store it all.

There was a lovely book subscription called reposed which did a book plus little treats and I loved it but it closed down.

I enjoy the Liberty beauty boxes, quarterly boxes but most you also get a voucher each month so you have a decent amount of vouchers to spend at Liberty

There used to be a lot more subscription boxes around.

I also pay myself a bit of pocket money each month to spend on things, I love the look of those earrings posted up thread

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I also loved Reposed/Reading in Heels. I don’t suppose you found an alternative? I’ve looked but nothing quite compares to the boxes I got from Reposed!

WingingItMam48 · 15/01/2025 13:22

We get Snackverse. It's a subscription box of snacks from a different country each month. We look forward to getting it each month, some months it's stuff we really like, other months we find stuff not to our taste, but that's the fun of it, trying things that are a bit different. They do different boxes according to how much you want to spend, we get the premium version for £24 but there are smaller ones for less. You can cancel as well really easy, you're not tied in to it for a long period of time

No, I keep hunting!
It was the mix of literary fiction and decent little treats that was such a good combination for me. I have found anything that comes close

Go for it! I've been doing it about 6 months now, and it's been great. Good variety of sets, and the customer service is great.

You get the occasional set with a missing piece, but its usually something tiny that you can work around, and if you email them they offer to send it out to you. They weigh the sets when they come back in so if anything major is missing they catch it.

@UdoUboo I subscribed as a gift for a friend and replaced it with Tea Time Bookshop.

Breadcat24 · 15/01/2025 13:44

Could you treat yourself to something like amazon prime or netflix and give yourself a movie night once a month?

I came on to recommend this too! I have had one for a few years and love it!

AltitudeCheck · 15/01/2025 13:54

Cheese / gin club / wine

Monthly podcast or national theatre at home subscription

Underwear/ socks (Oddballs are a favourite here!)

Audible book subscription

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 15/01/2025 14:18

I wouldn't bother with a beauty subscription unless you have other people in the house that might use stuff.
I ended up with a million tiny bottles of stuff I didn't use or didn't suit me.

I am not normally a Christmas earring person, but I'd have been in like Flynn on those Christmas pudding ones, so cute.

Same! Am gutted they are sold out!

Whatwaswrongwiththatusername · 15/01/2025 14:27

I got a monthly coffee bean subscription for Xmas, just had my 2nd delivery. It's great because I am a coffee fiend. I got my partner a particular (favourite) alcohol monthly subscription a few years ago. I guess really if you think about the sorts of things that you enjoy/brings you happiness?

DenimPeer · 15/01/2025 14:28

Not quite the same but for me it's getting a regular haircut. Just entered retirement and I'm determined to keep this little treat going. Luckily the salon I go to is a price I can afford in a clean and comfortable setting and always get to see the same stylist.

frecklejuice · 15/01/2025 14:30

I bought my friend a 6 month book subscription for her birthday and it was lovely. Every month she had a new book, flavoured tea, something edible and something else like a pen or sticky notes or similar. It sounds a bit crap writing it down but it was really nice.

Imakeearrings · 15/01/2025 14:53

Ipadannie · 14/01/2025 23:21

Not a subscription as such but every month there's a limited run of lovely earrings here - www.helenchalmers.co.uk/collections/monthly-limited-run

About 7 odd quid a month and they are lovely.

Hi everyone, I’ve just had this thread brought to my attention! I make all the glass from scratch in my studio here in Scotland and wanted to say thank you so much for all the people who have popped on and purchased some earrings today 🫶🏼 what a lovely surprise and a busy day. So sorry the Christmas puds are sold out but they will make a comeback by next Christmas, hope you see something else you like!

That's a good suggestion. I go for a wash and blow dry every fortnight I love it

MyQuickLimeFawn · 15/01/2025 15:17

When I used to work crazy hours over the winter / seasonal period I subscribed to Birchbox and used to quite enjoy getting some beauty samples every month.
