I want a regular treat for myself

...But I'm not sure what.

Like a magazine subscription without being a magazine.

Something I can look forward to each month that will make me smile and requires no effort from me to go out and get, but also not like a regular bunch of postal flowers either.

Does any one know of anything or have any suggestions?

Does such a thing exist?

To offer some alternatives to 'stuff' what about cinema membership or
National Trust membership for regular days out?

We have family NT membership for regular days out (mostly for entertaining the kids)!

Oh I've remembered another one if you like reading. It's called A Box of Stories. They save books that had good reviews/sold well, but didn't make it onto bestseller lists so people tend not to have heard of them but ABoS stop them from just being thrown out/pulped if they haven't sold (I probably haven't explained that very well). I've had some great books from them and you can choose the type of books sent.

My treat to myself is a Brick Borrow subscription. I'm a lego loving adult and I don't care! I pay £15.99 per month to be able to choose my lego sets and then it's £4.99 for postage for each order.

Some months I'll have more than one as I complete them quickly and return them for another, and sometimes I'll have them for a few months if they're big and complex (my recent one I've had for about 8 weeks and would have cost about £300 if I'd bought it). Taking them apart is just as much fun to me as putting them together.

I love building lego but I object to the prices of the big sets and don't have room to display them, so it's perfect for me.

My current treat is a Lego subscription from a place called Brickborrow. Its like old school Netflix when they used to actually send you DVDs. So pick a set, they send it to you. You build it, keep it for a while, disassemble it and post it back. Once they get it back you can pick another one

£15 a month, plus postage, and I usually get two sets a month. Much cheaper than buying it, and I don't have to worry about where to store it all.

This was last nights fun -

Aha - hello fellow BB'er!

You can also get monthly bead boxes, stationary ones, art ones, crochet, knitting etc if you’re into arts and crafts. You can even get gel polish monthly boxes! These days theres so much choice.

Thank you all for the suggestions, I'm going to look through them all before I choose 🫶

@madamweb have just Googled and I'm really disappointed. It was a company called Reposed but they seem to have stopped trading and the trust pilot reviews are awful because people had paid for a subscription and then never received anything. Such a shame as the monthly boxes were lovely.

This can be a risk with subscription services. I used to get a monthly candle from Iggy Box - when they ceased trading people lost money.

VikingsandDragons · 15/01/2025 20:05

I get a special edition book each month from Fairyloot and I absolutely love opening it to find out what's been sent. It always seems to be a very new release as well so low change you already have it.

Audible? I signed up last year. Free book every month 👍

@XiCi I've been reading about a book subscription from a company that uses good condition used books - I think I might try that next

Do you know what it's called?

Hi everyone, I’ve just had this thread brought to my attention! I make all the glass from scratch in my studio here in Scotland and wanted to say thank you so much for all the people who have popped on and purchased some earrings today 🫶🏼 what a lovely surprise and a busy day. So sorry the Christmas puds are sold out but they will make a comeback by next Christmas, hope you see something else you like!

@Imakeearrings sorry not sorry for all the extra work ;-) your work is really lovely

ChaosAndCuddlesAndTeacups · 16/01/2025 14:17

I've decided on a Tea Time Bookshop subscription, monthly Preloved book with a biscuit and (a surprise) hot beverage.

I will try it for 3 months and then try something different! I like the idea of a socks subscription 🤭

Thanks again all 🫶

What about a wax melt subscription from figandfox.co.uk?

Nanny1965 · 16/01/2025 18:03

Ooo I've just done something similar. Not a subs tho. I bought an expensive hair set. Keratase... cost me £96 but.. my hair is amazing. I got the premier ones. Pre shampoo. Shampoo and hair mask. I'm using it now for 6 weeks then maybe once a month. Would that work for you?

PurpleChrayn · 16/01/2025 19:46

I get the Sonagi Korean facemask subscription for £12 a month for 5 or 6 masks.

CrowleyKitten · 17/01/2025 02:56

depends what you're into. I don't get it at the moment, but I really enjoyed having a birchbox subsciption for a while. discovered lots of nice skincare, haircare and make up goodies.
the little boxes are useful for storage too, and pretty. and sometimes they come in things like toiletries or make up bags, tins etc. once had one in a reusable, sealable, silicone sandwich bag. very useful for a packed lunch.
