I want a regular treat for myself

...But I'm not sure what.

Like a magazine subscription without being a magazine.

Something I can look forward to each month that will make me smile and requires no effort from me to go out and get, but also not like a regular bunch of postal flowers either.

Does any one know of anything or have any suggestions?

Does such a thing exist?

I like those beauty boxes.

coxesorangepippin · 15/01/2025 02:31

Don't quote me, but I do think cheese subscriptions exist

coxesorangepippin · 15/01/2025 02:32

I should have quoted chuchoter!

Not a subscription as such but every month there's a limited run of lovely earrings here - www.helenchalmers.co.uk/collections/monthly-limited-run

About 7 odd quid a month and they are lovely.

I was going to say how bad that sounds for the environment - fast earrings, like fast fashion - but then I had a look. Not plastic, and some of them are made from recycled whisky bottles and whatnot.

My sister has a Leon subscription. Unlimited hot drinks in her own mug (she works somewhere weird where they don't even get tea). £25 a month.

Summerhillsquare · 15/01/2025 04:59

Liberty Beauty Drop, £25 a month.

National Theatre at Home, so not a 'thing' but world class theatre in your own home?

Surely a book takes more effort than flowers!
National Geographic subscription? Though you could get them off the library (digital copy)

This is my favourite book shop! They do a reading "spa" as well where you go and have tea and cakes and a chat about books and come away with a bag of books they think you'll like following from what you've said

Davros · 15/01/2025 09:47

Why not a magazine? It's tangible so you need to hold it and read it, there's a massive variety, they can take as much or as little time as you like. I look forward to my Radio Times every week and Private Eye every other week. You can probably do one for six months. The trouble with most subscriptions is it's like a hamper or advent calendar, you get stuff you don't want as much as stuff you do want. I suppose if you want to try out a brand it might work. I don't drink coffee but I would hate a tea subscription because I love tea so much and I like it my way 🔨 (gavel)

There was a lovely book subscription called reposed which did a book plus little treats and I loved it but it closed down.

I enjoy the Liberty beauty boxes, quarterly boxes but most you also get a voucher each month so you have a decent amount of vouchers to spend at Liberty

There used to be a lot more subscription boxes around.

I also pay myself a bit of pocket money each month to spend on things, I love the look of those earrings posted up thread

madamweb · 15/01/2025 09:56

Oh yes, good point I enjoy getting Private Eye each week @Davros

Davros · 15/01/2025 09:57

My other treat is membership of our local art house cinema

Cuppachuchu · 15/01/2025 10:04

For probably about the same cost of many of the other suggestions you could get a head neck and shoulder massage which will make you feel amazing. You would have to leave the house though. Unless there are mobile masseuse's (?) 🤔

MJconfessions · 15/01/2025 10:05

Well what are you interested in?

personally I would much rather choose the treat myself, sometimes you get duff products from subscription boxes. I just have a list of things I want to buy and tick them off gradually so it’s like giving myself a gift each month.

i also really like going to the theatre, experiences like that give me something to look forward to

YourNimbleOchrePoster · 15/01/2025 10:45

A posh chocolate one could be nice.

I know you said no magazine but I get Good Housekeeping magazine and each month there’s at least one really good article in it that I think about during the month. One month it was about different categories of friendships and another how to deal with people asking difficult/nosey questions.

RumNotRun · 15/01/2025 11:19

I used to have an Ink Drops subscription. You get a package of stationery each month with some really unusual things included. It looks like they are temporarily closed at the moment but if you like stationery then it's worth subscribing when they're back up and running.

LookItsMeAgain · 15/01/2025 12:15

I'm after clicking on your link @Enko and I spotted a Tee subscription - a new tshirt once a month. I thought it was something to do with golf to begin with but you could have some fun with that subscription @ChaosAndCuddlesAndTeacups.

Now if only I had the will power to not subscribe to everything that has been suggested so far....my bank balance can't take any more suggestions from MNetters this year... I've already bought 2 bags through the lucky dip on Roka's website 😆

I can't find the one my daughter got, it was nice, and I still have some of the items, small bowls and, weirdly, shot glasses.

was it either of these ?

I used to have a cheese subscription from the courthouse dairy. It was amazing.

Cryingatthegym · 15/01/2025 12:36

Based on your initial magazine suggestion what about an audible subscription? I personally have very little time to sit down and read so this is great for me as I can listen while I'm driving or doing chores etc.
