For the better, obviously.

Can be a thing, person, activity, place...anything really.

Mine is trig bagging. It's so much fun and gets you out there, to unexpected and unknown places.

What's yours?

@NeonGiraffe @Havalona

We also spend a couple of weeks in southern Spain in the winter and it's a life changer for me too. Just two and a half hours on a plane and we get a bit of warmth and sunlight. We started doing this a few years back for a week just after Christmas to fit in with work/school holidays. More recently we have gone January or February, although this year we've gone back to end Dec/early Jan to allow DS and partner to come with us.

We've stayed in Nerja, Estepona, Alicante and Torremolinos which we used as a base for train travel on to Malaga, Cordoba and Seville.

That if you walk in a zig zag up a steep hill it is so much easier. I live up a very steep hill and I never get out of breath now.

surely that’s just a human thing? I picked it up from my dad when very little walking and I’ll do it now running if no one behind me. some runners pay money for trig events yes

Myblueclematis · 11/01/2025 09:25

An electric blanket that I bought last year. After years of using a hot water bottle and only warming a patch of the bed, I saw a single one and bought that. I only sleep on half the bed so it's perfect for the side I sleep on.

It was £14 and I absolutely love it. It's like getting into a toaster.😊

How interesting! There is one a 15 minute walk from me, top of Wallacestone Brae, highest point overlooking the town/Ochills/Firth of Forth. There is a small park play area and a monument there marking the spot near where Sir William Wallace is thought to have stood to view the Battle of Falkirk. Great viewpoint.

That I can search the gallery on my Samsung Galaxy to find pictures. E.g. if I type teddy it would find all photos of teddies. Life changing, won't have to spend ages scrolling back trying to find a photo I took of some random thing.

Google photos does this too... whenever I need to share a picture of my passport/driving license I just type it in the search bar and finds the photo I have rather then having to take another one!

Walking was the only exercise I did and I liked it because you don't need any special stuff to do it, but now I have a damaged leg and walking is painful and tiring and it makes me feel sad as I am not a gym person and really used to like the fact that I could incorporate walking into my normal day.

Since I started using the local David Lloyd pool, I’ve noticed several people not swimming, but walking up and down the pool. (No deep end, obv.!). I’ve seen one walking both forwards and backwards.Apparently it’s very helpful, less strain on joints etc. Would that be an option for you?

I had a look at the link but I’m still none the wiser to what it is.

Me neither.....! Is it just posting on SM your walk destination?

I've discovered the art of saying No, at 61!

🙌🏻🙌🏻
I too have discovered this at the age of 55.
It's bloody brilliant!

Oh no, I used to like radio garden, thats annoying! Which vpn do you use?

I use Windscribe, but generally I get whatever annual subscription is on special offer. Have used Nord and Pure vpn in the past.

Sunshineandrainbow · 11/01/2025 09:45

@VexedofVirginiaWater you add water to most of the table top dishwashers so not plumbed in and the waste pipe sits straight into the sink.

caramac04 · 10/01/2025 19:55

Do you think this would work for insomnia? Are they very warm? I chuckled the duvet off pretty much every night and that’s with no heating on in bedroom.

They can get warm although some are cooler than others, get one with 100%cotton cover, but for the most part you dont notice the heat because your asleep. If you look around on various websites there will be one on offer somewhere between Amazon, Ebay, temu, Facebook marketplace etc.

And if they stop working, try a heavier weight, dont go from like 6kg to 11kg, just add 1 or 2kg each time.

Also try on top of quilt and on top of you, the feeling is different, more muted by the quilt if it's on top of the quilt.

Cornflakes123 · 11/01/2025 07:39

I’ve been doing this for years with no issues. I always make sure the water is lukewarm before putting it on the window. Did you pour warm water on the window ?

The water I used was only lukewarm @Cornflakes123 and I had also done the same thing on previous cars.

This was a new car and at first I assumed it must have been a faulty screen. But the Autoglass man, told me it was a common issue. When I spoke to Mini about it they also said it was because of the thermal shock caused by lukewarm water on a frozen screen.

i should say though that I have now had three windscreens on this relatively new, low mileage Mini. Apparently there is something about the screen angle that means small stones thrown off passing lorries can easily crack the screen.

The other cold weather issue I have with my Mini is that the wide plastic door seals freeze shut and no amount of de-icer will release them. I have to stand there holding a hot towel over the door seal to get it to release. It is ridiculous and adds 5-10 minutes to my morning as I can’t even start the car to de-ice the screen until I can get the door open.

Icy mornings are a real pain and will be one reason my next car won’t be a Mini.

A pull out pan drawer.
No longer do I have to lie flat on the floor with a torch in search of a pot or pan.
My life is complete.

A pan drawer changed my life for the better but I didn’t keep pans in it. My children were competitive swimmers and I needed a place to store their kit. New kitchen installed with big pan drawer which easily took 2 kit bags, kick boards, fins, towels etc. tidy kitchen and minimum fuss.

Onlinetherapist · 11/01/2025 09:52

@LonelyMom123 can robovac/mop navigate a kitchen step? Or do you need to be all on one level? I live on a hill, so each room you step up into!

@anythingbutlillies @TwoToe

I've just remembered - I started out on the high strength ones (25mg) then after about a month switched to the regular strength (12.5mg)

Occasionally, I have a night where I struggle to sleep well and just have a day or two without taking anything, then back to normal Smile

I take VOOST vitamin D and have noticed a huge difference. However I recently found out that you shouldn't take them every day as it affects your kidneys or something.

Had a massive health scare, still waiting on surgery, and realised it was time to stop putting myself last.

Intermittant fasting means I am no longer overweight having been morbidly obese most of my adult life. Fast like a girl by mindy Pelz is great, my doctor recommended it.

I got myself an infrared sauna blanket in the Black Friday sales. I hop in there for a catnap a few times a week and it feels great. www.floefitness.co.uk

Tiny 20 minute burn candles. Great for writing and journaling, I don’t know why but limiting the activity to the burn time helps me do it. £2.50.

These threads are a nightmare especially in January!!

Why would you be on the floor looking for pans? Don’t you hang them? How bizarre.

Oh yes, don't they know it's terribly common to have pans in a drawer... Bloody peasants.

😂

that my hip is fucked.

This is a GOOD thing btw, NHS have been telling me it's fine for years.. private sports physio found a very real problem, and explained why its impacting my mobility and chronic pain levels... and that treatment can help!!

I had the same. 5 years of being told it was groin strain and do more physio. Then I saw a different physio at my work Occupational Health one day. I hoped on the couch and he heard my hip make its usual grinding noise. Sent me off for x-rays and behold, I had severe arthritis which all the physiotherapy over the last 5 years had made worse. I now have a lovely new hip replacement and no pain at all.

It's a bit lame but - I downloaded a Spanish radio app on my TV so it feels like I'm on holiday

What a great idea, think i will try a Greek station.

Thornybush · 11/01/2025 02:57

Same. Sports physio told me that one hip is higher than the other (I had hip dysplasia as a baby) and my hips are always clicking and achy. Went for a scan on NHS and they said all is OK. It seems to be whoever shouts the loudest (most pain) is listened to.

its amazing what NHS physiotherapists could find if they gave us the same kind of time/attention and assessments as sports physiotherapists!
Been seeing the NHS ones on and off for 25 years, they have never once done a whole body assessment. I went to this guy about my upper back pain and within an hour he'd tracked it back to my hip not having a full range of motion.

Airfyer
Heated hoodie (ugly bugger from DH but great for bad backs)
Blowdry brush
Stretchy bra tops. I'm a J cup but I get these off amazon (x4) and the are OK indoors or under a coat. I have RA and gallbladder issues so hate pressure on my ribcage.
