For the better, obviously.

Can be a thing, person, activity, place...anything really.

Mine is trig bagging. It's so much fun and gets you out there, to unexpected and unknown places.

What's yours?

My full length (fake copies but OK) oodies, which I am wearing over my clothes in the house.
Great for economising on heating.

Better than the onesies, which involve a lot of undressing every time you want a pee;
better than the fleece dressing gowns, which come open and have wider sleeves, up which the icy draught blows;
better than the backwards gown/blanket with sleeves, where you get a cold back when you stand up;
and better than the heated throw, which you can't actually wear round the house.

I am completely sold on this all enveloping, unglamorous garment, and I am WARM.

going away for Christmas/New Year. Am retired and no kids so went to the South of Spain last year and this year (just back) for half of December and January. I will never spend that cold, over commercialised load of bollocks that Christmas and the depths of Winter are again, as long as I'm able to. So help me God 😊

Edited

Can I ask where in southern Spain? Very interested in doing this myself but only know other areas of Spain.

Boiling water tap. No more waiting for the kettle to boil. Game changer 😀

My husband. He changed my whole life. He is loyal and kindhearted and his love language seems to be acts of service. I haven’t cooked since I had the kids and he loved a good tidy. Hands on dad. Funny and self deprecating. Very, very smart and hot.

This is lovely 😍

An individual sized silicon microwave popcorn popper. It works so well and seems (so far) to always pop almost every kernel and doesn't burn them, just the right amount for one person, done in 90 sec. I put 20g of corn, a tiny bit of coconut oil, and some special very very fine popcorn salt, and it tastes much like movie popcorn.

Please post the link and where you get the popcorn salt!

that my hip is fucked.

This is a GOOD thing btw, NHS have been telling me it's fine for years.. private sports physio found a very real problem, and explained why its impacting my mobility and chronic pain levels... and that treatment can help!!

Same. Sports physio told me that one hip is higher than the other (I had hip dysplasia as a baby) and my hips are always clicking and achy. Went for a scan on NHS and they said all is OK. It seems to be whoever shouts the loudest (most pain) is listened to.

Areolaborealis · 11/01/2025 03:06

I've finally given in to the convenience of shop bought garlic puree. Not as nice as slow roasted in olive oil but saves me an hour, no more stinky hands and smelly house.

I don't know where I've been.

Relaxd · 11/01/2025 03:13

Not everyday things but … travel folding hangers (so many hotels don’t have enough/any), reusable soup freezer bags (stand up properly so you can pour in v easily) and my ninja foodie who I’ve had since Covid and got me into pressure and slow cooking.

Vitamin D..

This time last year I was barely functional.. constantly exhausted, comfort eating, putting on weight.

I now feel like I'm back in my 20s, full of energy, I'm achieving 4x what I used to in a day and losing weight too.

Absolutely life changing and can't recommend it enough :-)

Amazing - is this tablets? Any brand?

Pilates. I started doing an online class about six weeks ago and my niggly lower back/hip pain has all but gone. I have no idea why I put it off for so long! I think because I work a late shift so can't do classes in real life I just prevaricated, until I saw the NHS ones on YouTube and thought 'I'll have a go at that'. Brilliant. I no longer wake in the night with a nagging sciatic pain.

The NHS Pilates videos on YouTube are the only things to touch my back pain, so glad to hear they've helped you too @Vroomfondleswaistcoat

Lobsterteapot · 11/01/2025 04:25

Another instant pot lover here - I can do a stew (that tastes like it’s been slow oven cooking all day) in less than an hour plus it has a keep warm function. Perfect for bunging on and walking away.

Mercurysinretrograde · 11/01/2025 05:45

Another vote for audiobooks. I travel a lot for work and am away from home for half the month. My audio books keep me entertained when I’m on my own in the evenings, on planes and at the gym.

Goldie2021 · 11/01/2025 05:54

Reformer Pilates. Don’t know why it took so long to try it. Nearly 40 and feeling the best I’ve ever felt.

Put the clothes and coats on radiators as well - toasty warm in the winter!

I also put my shoes on the radiator while I’m getting ready. Makes me feel all Victorian and everything, warming my shoes “on the fire”. 😂

Magnesium supplements daily and Vitamin D.
After suffering debilitating, daily headaches for years, they are MUCH reduced. Also my sleep is so much better. Amazing!
The magnesium took a couple of months to work, but honestly, seems like a game changer.
I take a supplement with all three types of magnesium … which is pricey but was recommended as being high quality.

Gremlins101 · 11/01/2025 06:52

I have a victorian style airing rack (one that winches up to the ceiling) and ours are the fastest drying clothes in ireland (without the need for a tumble drier).

New non stick pans. Oh my life, I had forgotten how good a new non stick is.

A magnetic strip on the wall for storing sharp knives and scissors etc. Great space saver in our tiny kitchen and safer for the kids.

Saving recipes on the BBC good foods app and actually planning meals ahead of food shopping.

Sunrise alarm clock combined with putting my coffee maker in the bedroom and setting it so it's ready by the time the alarm goes off.

RelevantSherbert · 11/01/2025 06:57

Souper Cubes Silicone Freezer Trays - I freeze soup, casseroles, sauces in them. Once frozen, I take the individual portions out, bag them up in pairs for me and DH and stand them in a drawer in the freezer. Saves tonnes of space.

Sincere thanks for this one.
Every time I open my freezer an avalanche of tupperware comes out and inevitably cracks when it hits the floor rendering it useless.

Electric hot water bottle. From Amazon

It was a tip on here. I was skeptical but literally life changing in the way that my heated throw was life changing 5 years ago.

They warm up quickly, have a lovey long lasting heat, no worries about them bursting.

Perfect at bedtime. Literally will always own them - that good!

Looking into that one!

Yes, positively insane to keep saucepans in a cupboard. I've never heard of such a thing.

You must not get out much.
