We went to a cafe yesterday
We got there at 2pm and as we walked in they said all they had left was jacket potato or prawn sandwiches /ham and egg pie
I said to my friend I will get the jacket potato as I don't like any of the other choices.
My friend she was getting the ham and egg pie.
She was stood in front
Then she said actually il get a potato instead
We got to the front and I said "can we get two jacket potatoes please"
The lady said they only had 1 left and my friend pipe up "oh il take that please with Tuna" what you going to get ?
I double check what they have and say again I don't like anything else so il just get a tea.

Then she sat there and smirked "oh can't believe they only had 1 left "

Wouldn't you have just had something else ? She liked pie
I would of just to be kind

I’m actually being serious.

I mean she knows you didn’t like anything else and she’s just gone “oh well” when you’re stuck with tea.

It’s pretty weird behaviour from your friend. She’s made you sit there hungry and watch her stuff her fat greedy piglet face with a jacket potato.

she knows very well her decision means you’d go hungry and did it so it’s vindictive and deliberately mean.

She’s not offered you an explanation, she’s just done it without saying sorry or explaining so seems deliberate that she wanted you to be hungry and watch her eat the only thing you thought looked edible or delicious

Maybe it’s not technically abusive but it does seem a bit evil wicked stepmother/cinderella.

....and of course OPs version is the only accurate version of events.....🤣

Well its the only version we have to go by. We could all make up versions of events that make the OP sound better or worse.

Perhaps the OP is actually highly allergic to prawns and egg, something the friend knows well, but has repeatedly told OP that she doesn't believe in allergies and so does everything she can to force OP to eat them.

Or maybe every time they eat out the friend decides to take the last of anything and everything on offer, regardless of whether she likes it or not and OP is just sick of it.

Maybe the friend is actually addicted to jacket potatoes and was trying to fight it, but just couldn't resist at the last moment.

Maybe the friend had overheard the staff talking about number of people who'd fallen sick after eating their jacket potatoes and decided to selflessly save the OP.

Your friend is abusive.

Maybe it’s dementia

She doesn’t sound angry, just reflective.

I don't know about abuse but I don’t think the friend likes OP or cares about her much.

SparklingJoyous · 06/01/2025 15:54

That's so awful! She's not a friend.

Wonderi · 06/01/2025 15:54

She’s a nasty cow.

I’ve had almost arguments over the last of something with my friends but it’s trying to persuade the other person to have it instead of yourself.

Then you say “are you sure you don’t mind? I don’t mind having X instead”
And they’re like “no I insist please have it”

I’ve never been around anyone who acts like your friend and it sounds extreme over a potato but I wouldn’t be friends with her anymore.

Anyone that would watch you sit there and not eat and scoff her food anyway does not care about you.

user2848502016 · 06/01/2025 15:55

I would have definitely got something else. I can't believe she sat there eating in front of you!

Yeah, very snakey, cunty behaviour. I could not have had egg and ham pie either - that sounds a bit urgh! And prawns? Noooo. I would only have wanted the jacket potato.

If myself and my friend (or if it was DH) both wanted the jacket potato, I would have been happy to share it with them. I would very likely have let them have it to be honest.

In fact I have let the other person have the 'last thing' many times, because a) I like to be kind, and b) it doesn't hurt me to have less food! I carry packets of breakfast biscuits with me, and would have had a coffee, and sneakily ate one of them with it, if they had had nothing for me. (I rarely do this, but I do it now and again, if there is nothing I like.)

Has she done anything like this before @mirandabaileyy ? Some friend! Give her a wide berth from now on I would.

Yes, I meant that poster. She doesn’t sound angry.

Me and my friends are definitely more like this. "You have it." "No you have it"
If there's only 1 of whatever we both wanted, mum and I usually have that and pick something else we both like and then share them.
If I was with my best friend or DS they'd have the potato, no argument as they are both veggie so can't eat the other things on offer. Assuming they could have something other than tuna on it that is!

thescandalwascontained · 06/01/2025 16:05

I would have taken my tea to go and left her to her potato.

She's really not much of a friend, is she?

DowntonBlabbie · 06/01/2025 16:05

I'm not really following this thread, or qgt people are so mad and making shit up.

So two people want a baked potato, they order together.
There's only one baked potato. One person has it. And she's an absolute royal bitch of the highest order because she ate the baked potato, but OP would have been perfectly ok to have had the baked potato.
Doesn't make the slightest sense.

sweatervest · 06/01/2025 16:06

put her in carby corner to have a think about what she's done.

BigSilly · 06/01/2025 11:44

Why didn't you kljust say that there was nothing else you liked?

She did: "I double check what they have and say again I don't like anything else so il just get a tea."

You can just read OP's posts to get the idea.

I would’ve probably have just told her i didn’t like a thing else and I’m hungry so I’ll have to go elsewhere and I’d catch up with her another time. It’s up to her then if she wanted to let you have the jacket or eat alone. I certainly wouldn’t have just had a cup of tea for lunch.

This! I would have left her to it and walked out to eat somewhere else.

Oh, I have. Seems to be as I have summed it up. I know there's some guff about OP not wanting anything else, but clearly her friend also didn't fancy anything else, so I'm still not seeing any difference.

@DowntonBlabbie As you seem to be struggling to comprehend what the OP is saying, here is the OP's first post - where she explained the situation... It's REALLY not that difficult to 'get!'

The 'friend' then sat there munching on said jacket potato, smirking at the OP, and she (the OP) sat there eating nothing, and going hungry. Selfish gutsy fucker of a 'friend' didn't even offer to share!

She'd be binned YESTERDAY if I was the OP!

I'm following perfectly, thanks. She said she'd get the pie...but then realised she didn't want the pie. Same as OP didn't want the pie.

I've told you I've read all ops posts and fully understand them. But there's still nothing that shows anything different in either of them. They both wanted the potato, only one could have it. For some bizarre reason it had to be op and not cunty mcpieface.

When you think about it, the only serious question here is why did they go to such a shit place to eat anyway?
