An yes those flights you and the rest of us take DO matter

Every 0.1 degree shaved off the temperature rise is tens of thousands of lives saved

Not acting because sone twat is worse is cutting your nose off to spite your face

I never even consider that stuff …..it’s gonna happen anyways🤷‍♀️

AuntieMarys · 05/01/2025 09:35

We go away every month for a minimum 2-3 night break, UK and Europe.
Love our home and area where we live thank you! Love going away though!
This year have booked 5 UK breaks so far...plus 6 trips to London.

MiniPumpkin · 05/01/2025 09:35

YOLO. Life is for living and all that !

It's my sister
Ever since she met her partner (2 years ago ) she's away all the time
Including meals out /cocktails etc
I just think she could be using her money more sensible ,instead of holidays etc

Such as? I don’t ever think I’ve said this on here before to anyone… but you sound jealous.

Says who!?

Unless they're then asking you to borrow money or obviously struggling and asking your advice, it's absolutely none of your business.

NetZeroZealot · 05/01/2025 09:37

The UK trips seem perfectly normal and reasonable- to visit friends, weekends for sightseeing etc.
Assuming the overseas trips are being done by air and are all separate I’d be concerned about the carbon footprint. But it’s still only one holiday per quarter.

housethatbuiltme · 05/01/2025 09:35

When we where only a family of 3 we use to go for several nights/weekends away in a travelodge to places like York, Edinburgh, Lake District, Manchester, Glasgow etc... which is all not that far from us. It often cost less than £55 and any other family activity pretty much adds up to that anyway (and you go stir crazy having already done all the free options where you live).

I don't think 4 weekends in a travelodge or premier in or cheap hotel deals etc... is mad at all.

4 abroad holidays might seem 'overkill' to many but it depends on their lifestyle, the cost, duration etc... If I was a working single/couple with disposable money I would totally take myself away and see the world. What else would there be to do? Might as well make the most of having freedom and money when you can.

And may not even be weekends. Weekday travel can be cheaper, especially if you're in a position to do it during term time.

Jealous much?

Must admit I'm slightly curious about Newcastle as a holiday destination - not the most obvious one.

I love Newcastle.

My DD went to uni there and I love going and staying by the beach in either tynemouth or Whitley bay.

Great place for a holiday

KohlaParasaurus · 05/01/2025 09:38

I might not be able to resist laughing at her and pointing out the obvious if she went on to complain about being skint, but can't imagine keeping a tally of someone else's trips away from home.

Kahless · 05/01/2025 09:38

What's the issue?

Is she in debt?

RosesAndHellebores · 05/01/2025 09:39

4 trips to Europe in 12 months! And the issue is? Oh crikey, she's been to Newcastle twice, the Lakes, Edinburgh and York. If she loves in Cornwall, that's quite far to go; if she lives in Durham, not so much.

I'm always surprised at how little of the UK most Brits have seen.

How old is she and what are her circumstances?

It depends. If she is young and he is going halves, fine.
If she is 30+ and financially stable with a house, fine.
if she is funding it all, not fine.
if she has no rainy day savings, less fine.

If someone has actually earnt the money they spend by doing a societally useful and productive job, then it wouldn't bother me particularly.

If they have inherited the money, or they are a multiple property landlord, or hedge fund manager or an HR director though, then it probably would.

Why would it bother you if somebody was using inherited money to travel? It's not your business.

Autumnblackberries · 05/01/2025 09:40

Sounds fab. I was doing this in the early days of my relationship. It was amazing fun and I was young.
Now 2 kids and one divorce later sadly....
Let her enjoy herself. Life is short.

HopeJacob · 05/01/2025 09:40

This is less than one trip a month, so to be honest I think she could do much better in 2025 :)

Completely agree with this - but there’ll be loads on here that don’t & will try & justify their POV I’m afraid.

OrigamiOwls · 05/01/2025 09:40

Doesn't sound like it's any of your business OP. Also comes across as a bit of jealousy

goingdownfighting · 05/01/2025 09:41

We've done more than that some years

Hello87abc · 05/01/2025 09:41

Is she asking you or family for money to pay for this? If not I’m the nicest way possible it’s non of your business

OnlyDespairRemains · 05/01/2025 09:41

Beezknees · 05/01/2025 09:39

Why would it bother you if somebody was using inherited money to travel? It's not your business.

It would depend on how much they had inherited tbh.

And how tax works is everyone's business.

battairzeedurgzome · 05/01/2025 09:41

Define 'excessive'. Is there a medically approved recommended maximum number of nights away from home, akin to the recommended maximum calorie or alcohol intake, or sunlight exposure? Would it be on the NHS website?

cardibach · 05/01/2025 09:42

Itsanewyearnewstart · 05/01/2025 09:16

I feel that people who need to be perpetually going away on holiday have something lacking in their lives: perpetually seeking a fulfillment that they don't have.
I wouldn't be interested in a lifestyle that involved always travelling .
But if that's what your sister wants to do with her life then really it's not your business.

Or they are just interested in stuff/places/history/art. What an unpleasant attitude. My home life is lively thanks. Still like to get away.

Spartak · 05/01/2025 09:43

I'm reading this while eating breakfast at the airport as I head off for a week. I had a long weekend away in December too.

I've no kids, a fairly well paid job, I rent my spare room out to a lodger so my house is secure in my absence and that's disposable income.

After a couple of life threatening health scares, I've decided so see as much of the world as I can. There's no-one that is waiting to inherit from me, so I'll spend my money on doing exactly what I want.

You need to MYOB.

I disagree.

I suspect the OP is home all the time with two small children and a shit partner.
