Bought beautiful new bedsheets. Reduced in the sale, gorgeous colours with toadstools on them, felt ok in the shop.
Got them home, washed them and they have gone shiny 🤬 like the kind of static shiny so that your duvet ends up in a weird shape and you're rolled up like a stuck sweating pig.

Am absolutely gutted (and furious 😠) and hoping a trip to Homesense will cure me of my wierd shiny-bedsheet-hate.

many of the new cotton tops we have bought this year have immediately sprung small holes
I think it's just that the quality (but not the price) of clothes has nosedived. I have old t shirts that are still going strong but new ones (M&S, White Stuff, Fat Face) that have developed holes after a couple of wears/washes (esp the 'slub' cotton ones).

For some reason many of the new cotton tops we have bought this year have immediately sprung small holes. Huh. Maybe we have bugs.

Larger purchase: my house.

Ours do that, it’s bad quality cotton. I have t shirts from decades ago that have no holes, but anything purchased in the past 5 years have holes in them.

I borrowed a Dyson Airwrap from my sister/her friend.

Worked great to begin with, but they aren’t the most resilient. Spilled a tiny bit of wine on them and now they are just a glorified paperweight.

Ha ha, very funny 🤣

iRobot Hoover. Wanted one for years.

My sister got a robot hoover last year after wanting one for ages. First time they went out it managed to knock over the cat food bowl and then went round the whole house smearing cat food into their floor and carpet. She was so angry when they came home she picked it up straight away and sent it back to amazon still covered in cat food 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

I got DS a PlayStation portal. Was his only big present.

What an expensive load of rubbish!

what don’t you like about it? we love ours, especially great for on holiday and you can access everything that you have on your ps5.

Frangywangywoowah · 03/01/2025 08:17

Encrypted card game. MIL bought it as seen on FB.
Shite. Some of the things you have to guess are also wildly inappropriate and not funny.

AsTreesWalking · 03/01/2025 08:19

Salter chocolatier bought for my DH as he loves his hit chocolate. Used it once, meh. Next day it didn't turn on.
I think this thread rather shows that gadgets are very often not worth the money!

CoastalCalm
Electric egg boiler , set for soft boil and came out hard boiled

Mine works a treat but you do have to remove the egg immediately after the light clicks off

We bought a firestick to use with ours. Same issue with the pixel. Firestick works well though!

Will the fire stick work with the projector and Disney, Netflix, iPlayer? We also have a useless projector and a sad DC.

Very good, made me laugh!

@FruitPolos pretty sure they say to cook on A tray, not THE tray - we had these.

Yep, the clue is when the instructions say ‘remove all packaging and place on a pre heated baking tray in the centre of the oven’!!

M&S Santa Popping down the Chimney dessert - tasted good but the gimmick was him upside down in the chimney but his legs had gone soggy, fallen off his bottom and ended up down the roof somewhere. Their extra special Yule log was dry and too sweet. Every year I book a manic in-store collection, spend a fortune and end up disappointed....memo to self, not this year!

starfishmummy · 03/01/2025 08:25

icebearforpresident · 03/01/2025 06:23

I’ll second the Colin the Caterpillar comment. DH did the M&S run this year and bought one as he couldn’t find a Yule log and it tastes ok but the chocolate is far too thick and sponge dry.

The Yule Log was really sweet with dry sponge too. I'd seen a comparison review where they said the M&S one was not very sweet compared to the others they tried. I dread to think what the others were like.

@AWeeNameChange

fear not here is the travel coffee mug you need.

I know it is expensive but it doesn’t matter where you drink out of. It keeps the liquid piping hot and is easy to operate when driving one handed. We switched from (in my opinion terribly designed) chillies travel mugs to these

I second this- bought it for my DD and she absolutely loved it!

Do you have stone worktops in the new house?

I get holes in my top when I wear them with jeans, the jeans button scrapes the countertop and makes a hole.

I have had this issue too, small holes just where the top falls over my jeans button. I assume it’s from it rubbing/catching. We have quartz kitchen counters

Sammysquiz · 03/01/2025 08:04

As an egg-boiler fan, the beauty is you can stick them in and disappear off, whereas in a pan you need to time from when the water starts boiling. So for breakfast I stick in the eggs, go upstairs and get dressed etc, then come when I hear the alarm.

i use the Andrew James one for people who are having trouble with not getting them soft-boiled. So far all good!

We've got the Andrew James one and it's brilliant, eggs are perfect everytime

Anewuser · 03/01/2025 08:27

My husband bought me some lovely (expensive) earrings. I’m always losing a single stud when the back falls off.

These have a screw on back. My god the pain when I put the first one in. I thought maybe the post was a bit big but the second earring got screwed into my ear and I couldn’t get it all the way through or out again without turning it like a screw.

I’ve had pierced ears for over forty years and have never had a problem.

Obviously, being earring you can’t return them. Awful design.

Newfoundzestforlife · 03/01/2025 08:28

I bought a Beetlejuice double bedding set from George at Asda, was so pleased with it...the first time I washed it on 40 degrees all of the poppers came off rendering it useless! Still gutted.

Sammysquiz · 03/01/2025 08:28

NameChanger91736 · 03/01/2025 08:08

I have the Andrew James one, how much water do you put in for soft boiled? & how many minutes would you say it took to get soft boiled?

I use the little measuring pot which came with it - it’s got soft, medium & hard on it & the number of eggs, so you can adapt it to what you’re cooking. I keep my eggs in the fridge which will make a difference! Takes about 5 mins.

My cotton tops get holes in from my jeans button rubbing against them when I'm standing at the work surface. Are your holes all in the jeans button area?!

Foxybyname · 03/01/2025 08:29

Tubs of chocolates - all of them!

I bought Celebrations and Heroes, then someone brought Quality Street as a thank you, and my DS was given Roses from work.

When the tree comes down at the weekend, any remaining will be binned. I reckon there's the equivalent of 2 tins worth.

Just not nice! Even the Heroes, with the exception of plain dairy milk, were all horrible tasting.

I have put a note on my phone for September (as that's when I get sucked in and buy!) to not bother this year.

Clinique Black Honey lipstick. Long coveted and - for me - expensive. I was really looking forward to trying it out but what a disappointment! It sticks to any dry skin on the lips (I didn’t even realise I had any!) making lips look flaky, and the final look is very much ‘red wine’ lips. Yuck. Literally the worst lipstick I’ve ever used.

I got the elf dupe its sheer black cherry and would highly recommend it. I get lots of compliments and it costs less than a tenner

TokyoSushi · 03/01/2025 08:32

Roasted garlic mayo from Lidl to go with a calamari starter, utterly vile, like a weird thick grey paste 🤢

Foxybyname · 03/01/2025 08:34

To balance the negativity though, the crumble topped cranberry and orange mince pies from Waitrose were divine!

I don't even like mince pies but these were delicious. I really hope they do them this Christmas too. Very, very slightly warmed with clotted cream - breakfast of gluttons champions.

And what’s with the Quality Street in plain paper wrappers - and cheap ones at that ? The chocolate is shiny and all the sweets are pre formed and the same size. If it hadn’t been for the purple wrapper l wouldn’t have recognised the hazelnut caramel.
