Bought beautiful new bedsheets. Reduced in the sale, gorgeous colours with toadstools on them, felt ok in the shop.
Got them home, washed them and they have gone shiny 🤬 like the kind of static shiny so that your duvet ends up in a weird shape and you're rolled up like a stuck sweating pig.

Am absolutely gutted (and furious 😠) and hoping a trip to Homesense will cure me of my wierd shiny-bedsheet-hate.

Crimpit toastie maker, absolutely tiny, great if you want half a toastie and to waste a whole slice of bread

If it's the little square one, I think it's designed for the sandwich thins rather than normal bread?

Fluffy pjs wasted never wear them can’t sleep in them

I ordered two favourite meals (i.e. 4 mains) from a supermarket we rarely use, so that DH & I could have two special meals sometime this week - except they all expired on the day they were delivered so we had to have two identical meals two days running, straight away. Nice food, but annoying & not what I'd planned. And the supermarket didn't bother telling us they were short-dated.

I bought wax melts in the sale at another supermarket. The one which sounded nicer when I read the description turned out to be weird & pungent when opened, but at least the ones I didn't fancy much are actually really nice.

Are expiry dates really that hard & fast? I should think a day or too leeway at least.

Needanewname42 · 03/01/2025 01:53

@Shufflebumnessie what make was your box? We were considering the keter storage boxes for our cushions.

The ones we ate the day they arrived were juuuust in date; the ones we ate the next day were already out of date. I didn't want to leave it longer than that.

maldivemoment · 03/01/2025 02:26

@blahblonk we got these as stocking fillers for the kids. Could not believe the size of them!
Toastie my arse!

@Needanewname42 Keter ones are brilliant! We’ve been storing sofa cushions in ours for almost 4 years and they’re bone dry, no issues. We have the 870l one, definitely worth the money.

For some reason many of the new cotton tops we have bought this year have immediately sprung small holes. Huh. Maybe we have bugs.

Larger purchase: my house.

OMG I was complaining only a few days ago that a couple of tops I had recently bought had suddenly sprung holes

New GHD hair dryer - heavy and takes ages 😕

I bought lots of party food from Aldi, all of which was great except the pork belly bites. Absolutely horrendous. I don't know why they included little serving picks, they were basically pork belly crumbs with lumps of fat. Grim. I was very disappointed.

The Sainsburys ones were exactly the same 🤢. I hate pork belly anyway so I didn’t lose out and the men seemed to enjoy them but they were such a faff to make up.

My contribution is the hot chocolate set I got from B&M. The hazelnut one tasted like garlic, the orange one like soap, the mint one like toothpaste, and got chucked down the sink. The toasted marshmallow, ginger, cinnamon and caramel ones were just about drinkable. In comparison the orange and salted caramel flavoured hot chocolates I got from Tesco are really nice!

Hypoallergenic earrings for DD, apparently made of medical grade stainless steel and coated in gold. Nope, flared her ears up and still recovering.

Thunderpants88 · 03/01/2025 04:30

@AWeeNameChange

fear not here is the travel coffee mug you need.

I know it is expensive but it doesn’t matter where you drink out of. It keeps the liquid piping hot and is easy to operate when driving one handed. We switched from (in my opinion terribly designed) chillies travel mugs to these

Ocean Blue Small Thermal Insulated Coffee Flask

Coffee on the go never tasted so good. With a 350ml capacity our insulated Brew Flask in Ocean Blue is designed to be the only hot drink companion you need

DS got a ball game that's a small net trampoline thingy and two balls. You bounce it into the net and the next person thwacks it down again etc. Looked like great fun on the ad. A bit shit in reality.

It could be the size of the posts? I can't wear any earrings that are too "thick".

Electric egg boiler , set for soft boil and came out hard boiled

I've had mine years and have NEVER been able to get soft boiled from it. Which is a huge shame because that's the reason I bought it 😭

Me20176 · 03/01/2025 05:21

Clinique Black Honey lipstick. Long coveted and - for me - expensive. I was really looking forward to trying it out but what a disappointment! It sticks to any dry skin on the lips (I didn’t even realise I had any!) making lips look flaky, and the final look is very much ‘red wine’ lips. Yuck. Literally the worst lipstick I’ve ever used.

Topsyturvy78 · 03/01/2025 05:34

I always make sure any bedding I buy is 100% cotton. My daughter suffers from eczema. My son used to but grew that and the memories of awful nylon sheets as a child. It's just something I've always done. No matter how much I love sheets or a duvet set if it's less than 100% cotton I don't buy.

Try Smash. They do properly leak free cups. I put mine in my work badge with my work laptop. Might be a little fiddly to open when driving though.

Surely you shouldn't try to open it when driving. A lady in our village was fined for having a drink of water when waiting at the traffic lights. I thought that was harsh.

If your going to keep them put clear nail varnish on where they will touch the ears. Always works.

I got my DB some heated socks , they came with a USA plug . I got a refund but socks are still useless.

You can buy an adapter

Princessponies · 03/01/2025 06:20

I got DS a PlayStation portal. Was his only big present.

What an expensive load of rubbish!

CeciliaMars · 03/01/2025 06:21

iRobot Hoover. Wanted one for years.

exLtEveDallas · 03/01/2025 06:23

A cd/dvd drive for a laptop. Spent hours trying to connect it so that DD could burn some of her fave Spotify tracks. Was an 'Amazon choice' with loads of good reviews but just doesn't work. Outside the return window as well 😡
