Bought beautiful new bedsheets. Reduced in the sale, gorgeous colours with toadstools on them, felt ok in the shop.
Got them home, washed them and they have gone shiny 🤬 like the kind of static shiny so that your duvet ends up in a weird shape and you're rolled up like a stuck sweating pig.

Am absolutely gutted (and furious 😠) and hoping a trip to Homesense will cure me of my wierd shiny-bedsheet-hate.

I have a Thermos Direct Drink Flask. The top flips open (also unscrews for filling/cleaning). Has not leaked on me and keeps my drink very hot for hours. In fact too hot sometimes!

Got mine in Sainsburys

what don’t you like about it? we love ours, especially great for on holiday and you can access everything that you have on your ps5.

Ours constantly disconnects from WiFi. It seems to lag behind the ps5 and then cuts out. It also won’t connect when we are out which is a shame!

And what’s with the Quality Street in plain paper wrappers - and cheap ones at that ? The chocolate is shiny and all the sweets are pre formed and the same size. If it hadn’t been for the purple wrapper l wouldn’t have recognised the hazelnut caramel.

Ha! Agreed - if you had a blindfold on, it would be impossible to know which you were eating 😔.

Better quality, less quantity is my intention for next Christmas......

I purchased TWO M &S Camembert in a garlic ring. £12 each. They were crap .

One of those chill factor slushy cups. Absolutely useless and doesn’t make slush!

My DC have these and they are a bit trial and error but can work well. They need to be well frozen in the freezer, if you take them out too soon they don't work, and also work best if the drink you put in is chilled first.

MabelMaybe · 03/01/2025 08:43

I used our egg boiler this morning. Two soft boiled eggs. You need to use large size eggs (medium will cook for longer using the same amount of water so you'll end up with hard boiled), and run then under cold water when they come out, to stop them cooking any further.

The M&S Hazelnut Buche. So sickly.

A sellotape dispenser I got from Ocado. It was tiny and I couldn't get it to work at all. Completely useless.

I had to borrow my dad's instead.

It’s worth looking in charity shops for a big old sellotape dispenser. The tiny ones they make nowadays are rubbish. Our one is really weighty and makes wrapping so easy! Charity shops round here seem to have them a lot.

How hard is it to boil an egg in a pan?

Depends how hard or soft you want it. As someone who regularly forgets they’ve an egg boiling it’s not the time to boil the egg it’s the hours picking the shell shrapnel out of the walls and ceiling after it explodes that I suppose would be mitigated by something with a timer on!

If your going to keep them put clear nail varnish on where they will touch the ears. Always works.

Wow, that has brought back memories. Always used to do this with cheap earrings as a teen

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 03/01/2025 08:51

Mob veggie cookbook.

We've made 3 of the recipes so far and they've all been adverage at best! (We're both competent cooks too😂)

TulipTiptoer · 03/01/2025 08:51

Aldi baked cheese with chorizo in a terracotta pot. It was just gloop. Horrible

A heated hoodie DD gave to DH. What a swizz. There is just a tiny little USB poking out the pocket, and you have to use a power bank to heat it up. And no power bank comes with it. And of course that is in tiny little writing on the big box. I thought it would be just like a heated throw with a plug

18 carat by the sound of things !!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/01/2025 08:52

Surprised people liked the Colin. The chunks of chocolate meant it couldn’t be sliced, and they were horribly sweet. I was so disappointed with him. £15 too!!!! I’d never normally buy such a thing, but thought it would be a fun treat for the adult dc instead of a Yule log. Never again!

Decoart · 03/01/2025 08:52

The M&S large reindeer cheesecake, so disappointed. I battled M&S foodhall especially to buy it. It was tastless and had a foamy texture so threw most of it away.

Sainsbury frozen turkey crown, very tasteless. Their taste the difference cranberry sauce was lovely though so just smothered the turkey in that.

Roses tub, it was just the same few chocolates and Quality street miss the see through wrappers. Half the fun was seeing the room go orange or purple looking through them.

Lourdes12 · 03/01/2025 08:52

No disappointments this year. I’m at an age where I’ve learnt my lessons. Only buy a few quality items that lasts that includes toys for my kids

Yes we had that disappointment too.

We got the amaretto and brown butter one from Waitrose and it was really really good. I remember the “normal” one being a bit disappointing in prev years.

For some reason many of the new cotton tops we have bought this year have immediately sprung small holes. Huh. Maybe we have bugs.

Larger purchase: my house.

How old is your washing machine? Always happens to me when washing machine failing.

GRCP · 03/01/2025 08:55

2 lava lamps, one for each DC. Neither work.

This happened to me with all my tops at roughly the same place and it drove me crazy for years. Finally discovered I had wee sharp bits on the edge of my granite worktops and the problem disappeared when smoothed down .

I bought lots of party food from Aldi, all of which was great except the pork belly bites. Absolutely horrendous. I don't know why they included little serving picks, they were basically pork belly crumbs with lumps of fat. Grim. I was very disappointed.

I got 2 boxes of these. One to share with friends and one to give my husband who was staying upstairs. I agree.....so disappointing. Nothing like the picture. A pile of crumbs.
