Bought beautiful new bedsheets. Reduced in the sale, gorgeous colours with toadstools on them, felt ok in the shop.
Got them home, washed them and they have gone shiny 🤬 like the kind of static shiny so that your duvet ends up in a weird shape and you're rolled up like a stuck sweating pig.

Am absolutely gutted (and furious 😠) and hoping a trip to Homesense will cure me of my wierd shiny-bedsheet-hate.

I had a Dyson, the love wore off quickly, then I bought a hoover and it was totally unreliable and a pain then didn't work every time. I asked my 19 year old to pick me something. He chose a shark amd I love it. Proper love it.

If you do , put it in an old pillowcase ( fasten with a ponytail band or knot it) that you don't mind throwing out , otherwise all that fluff will get into your machine .
You'd be forever picking sludgey fluff from the seal or it'll be on your next wash forever more !

Or a net bag? I've got a blanket from I think Joe browns, think lovely heavy cotton stuff. First time I washed it loads of short fibres came out, so many it blocked the pipe and the outside grate and flooded the kitchen.
Rather than give it away or worse, throw it away I bought large net bags. It's never shed as much as the first wash but I definitely see handfuls of short fibres each time. I think one day itll just be fluff.

@70isaLimitNotaTarget I make easy toasted sandwiches in the air fryer- doesn't do that breville sealed thing but I'm ok with that as those tend to burn my mouth with Uber hot filling

I hadn;t thought of this - I have an AirFryer ( 2 drawer one ) but I have not used it in all its capacity .

The sandwich grill we have is a Panini press one so it doesn't seal or make triangles but has flat plates and floating hinge you can set the height of the top plate . ( I just still use the name Breville as that was the original Grin )

Air Fryer one sounds good , I can use really thick bread and it won't get squashed

@HopefulElle do they keep out creepy crawlies - namely, all spiders?

@ChubbyMcChubfest afraid not!

It was the top border. As you can see the photos show it folded over (which I don't do) so I couldn't tell. It just looked wrong to me.

I agree. It's a design that could only be dreamt up by a sociopath 😱

Came back to add LEON chicken restaurant at Waterloo. Crap choice, crap food. Completely inedible. Chose it in favour of KFC because we could sit down in LEON 🙄

Also @Jimmyspiano I have a Shark lift away after a similar tantrum with my Samsung cordless (Never Again) and it's Brilliant. My extended family and friends all also have the Shark lift away.

Thank you

Land Rover Discovery. Only non junk car we ever bought. Hole in the engine months in. Not cost effective to fix. Sold for scrap.

I bought a Shark Stratos HairWrap in October , it is corded bt its a 10m cord
Cannister is a lot small than the LiftAway but it;s a doddle to empty .
I love the fact I can take the top bit and use on the stairs ( brush and crevice too attachments )

It doesn't stand itself upright but folds in half and stands when folded .

Be prepared for realising just how dusty your carpets are 😲

Heck yes !

It is a revelation. I blame the cats .

Crikeyalmighty · 05/01/2025 20:03

@70isaLimitNotaTarget Yep basically I just make say a cheese and ham and tomato sandwich- I spray it withfrylite , bang in air fryer for 5 minutes and it's done. No one has complained and saves fanning around cleaning down another machine

HumBumBum · 05/01/2025 20:45

Have another washing one, those Uniqlo down coats that all the teenagers have and are not bloody washable (as I’ve just found out!)

Similar to the OP, I treated myself to some Egyptian cotton bedding from John Lewis. First disappointment was the border only went round three sides which was craftily hidden in the photos. Secondly, it felt freezing and crunchy when I first got into it. The feeling wore off fairly quickly but the damage was already done. Finally, over the first night a black stain appeared (like felt tip pen) right in the middle. It appears this may have been spider poo and no amount of washing, Vanish, bleach or hanging out in sunshine has got it out. It makes me sad every time I look at it.

Spider poo 💩 😱😱😱😱

Electric egg boiler , set for soft boil and came out hard boiled

takes a bit of practice to find the right times for them. once you figure them out, they're good, and my husband likes them for omelettes and "poached" (techically coddled) eggs.
I prefer to boil or poach them in a pan myself. I use one of those egg shaped timers that change colour to give an indication of how done they are.

Fluffy pjs wasted never wear them can’t sleep in them

I never sleep in PJs, but I love wearing them about the house. I put them on as soon as I get in, and only change into outdoor clothes when I'm about to go out.
but in bed, nothing. I just don't find it comfortable to sleep in clothes.

So if you are staying at a hotel or someone's home, do you wear anything then?

Just in case there is a fire alarm happening or need to use the loo in the night.

BadgersGalore · 05/01/2025 22:14

We had the Aldi pork belly bites for tea tonight. They didn't look like on the packet and we ate them with a fork instead of on sticks, but they were very tasty. You just had to cook them for longer/hotter than the instructions.

LavenderViolets · 05/01/2025 22:19

Re the 100% cotton duvets going shiny I’ve had this and the difference was they are sateen cotton. I don’t know why they’re so awful but they collect fluff with their shininess. Never again!

Agree with cotton tops getting thinner over the years, no wonder they get holes.

Shockedandsadnow · 05/01/2025 22:26

Stanley cup I bought my dd. Didn't really pay much attention to the size (big mistake 😒) It was on offer.... Its HUGE!!,.. Like, American sized drink huge! It's really heavy when full and she not even used the ice cubes yet... (also regretting buying) which I'm sure its gonna make it REALLY REALLY HEAVY.

Tubs of chocolates - all of them!

I bought Celebrations and Heroes, then someone brought Quality Street as a thank you, and my DS was given Roses from work.

When the tree comes down at the weekend, any remaining will be binned. I reckon there's the equivalent of 2 tins worth.

Just not nice! Even the Heroes, with the exception of plain dairy milk, were all horrible tasting.

I have put a note on my phone for September (as that's when I get sucked in and buy!) to not bother this year.

found celebrations EXCESSIVELY sweet this year. not good.

if I'm,say, on an inflatable mattress in the same room as anyone other than my husband, I wear an oversized t shirt and knickers. if I'm in a spare room. naked. I always have a dressing gown or one of my anke length fleece hoodie things right by the bed to grab if I need to get up, go to the toilet, cover up quickly etc.

I bought a wreath for my front door from Temu, it looked really nice just what I was looking for. Delivery day came and I was so excited to get it open and to my horror it was just a tiny picture of a wreath ,smaller than your standard dinner plate, not a fucking hanging wreath at all. Was well pissed off😡.Emailed Temu along with photo of it, got a full refund including postage and said I could keep it, not bloody surprised only place it's fit for is the bin!!!

I knew you were going to say you got some sort of image of it instead of the actual wreath. I saw a post on Facebook and someone had done the same and received a blanket with a picture of a wreath on it 😅

One of those manual vegetable chopper things

You have to cut onion in half to fit then press down really hard. Never works for me
Okay with cucumber as softer

Quicker using a knife

I just give mine a hefty whack with the palm of my hand and it works perfectly. I wouldn't be without mine now. I can now come home on a morning break, quickly chop up some veg and bung that and some meat into the slow cooker so I have something to eat once I finish work later on in the day. Chopping veg by hand takes me ages.
