Bought beautiful new bedsheets. Reduced in the sale, gorgeous colours with toadstools on them, felt ok in the shop.
Got them home, washed them and they have gone shiny 🤬 like the kind of static shiny so that your duvet ends up in a weird shape and you're rolled up like a stuck sweating pig.

Am absolutely gutted (and furious 😠) and hoping a trip to Homesense will cure me of my wierd shiny-bedsheet-hate.

I borrowed a Dyson Airwrap from my sister/her friend.

Worked great to begin with, but they aren’t the most resilient. Spilled a tiny bit of wine on them and now they are just a glorified paperweight.

😁

I've decided to go back to a70s/80s theme next Xmas - giving the modern pre made party food a miss . smoked salmon, a good ham, good-bread , nice cheese, prawn cocktails, olives, and make some homemade volauvents , sausage rolls, and cheese and pineapple on sticks plus homemade trifle, fresh fruit salad and a Black Forest gateau

Good call .

Mine was a poinsettia too - one I bought from M&S (large one in basket that was delivered). I buy the same one every year and they normally last well but this one's leaves started turning black within days. It probably got too cold in storage or during delivery.

Like you have always bought basket one from M & S usually very pleased with it, but thus year it is already dead, last year's lasted until March

Crimpit toastie maker, absolutely tiny, great if you want half a toastie and to waste a whole slice of bread

I was going to say crimpit but had forgotten rhe name of them. There was a bogof offer so I got a few of them thinking I could give tjem to friends. Basically they don't work. The crimped slices of toast just open up and ruin your toaster. I still have them as they are so bad that I can't give them to anyone.

Twittable · 04/01/2025 22:42

I bought a gluten free Yule log from M&S which was disgustingly sweet and more buttercream than cake. I buy one every year because it’s normally lovely but def wasn’t nice this year. Very disappointing 😞

Hi guys I'm new to this site, when I'm reading posts I don't know what the abrivations mean, I know mil. But the others I'm just guessing. Would be very helpful if someone could fill me in please 😊?

Are you on the App or the website version ? I can't find it on the App, but on the website there is definitely a place where all the abbreviations are explained.

Ha ha are you on another thread where you damaged Dyson Hairwrap you borrowed from your sister and won’t replace it ?

SullysBabyMama · 04/01/2025 22:54

We have one that Netflix doesn’t work on but Disney Plus does from Tiktok shop. Maybe try that if you have a Disney account x

The Yule Log was really sweet with dry sponge too. I'd seen a comparison review where they said the M&S one was not very sweet compared to the others they tried. I dread to think what the others were like.

Edited

Till date I have found the one from co-op to be the best yule log. The rest are either too sweet or too dry.

And what’s with the Quality Street in plain paper wrappers - and cheap ones at that ? The chocolate is shiny and all the sweets are pre formed and the same size. If it hadn’t been for the purple wrapper l wouldn’t have recognised the hazelnut caramel.

We bought a tub of heroes and all the Twirls tasted absolutely vile!

I think must people, including me, use those little square ‘thins’. Works well especially if you have a toastie bag to pop the prepared thin into prior to popping it into the toaster

what don’t you like about it? we love ours, especially great for on holiday and you can access everything that you have on your ps5.

Can I ask re PlayStation portal, are you able to use without wifi? We are considering getting one for DS but DP is not convinced it will work well. Can he still play games that he has the disc version of? DP is old school so we don’t have many digital downloads

CharlotteStreetW1 · 04/01/2025 23:15

Similar to the OP, I treated myself to some Egyptian cotton bedding from John Lewis. First disappointment was the border only went round three sides which was craftily hidden in the photos. Secondly, it felt freezing and crunchy when I first got into it. The feeling wore off fairly quickly but the damage was already done. Finally, over the first night a black stain appeared (like felt tip pen) right in the middle. It appears this may have been spider poo and no amount of washing, Vanish, bleach or hanging out in sunshine has got it out. It makes me sad every time I look at it.

The over-priced box of crackers from Sainsbury’s that didn’t contain a toy or mildly funny jokes. We threw the spare crackers away.

Turn them into make your own crackers! I buy cheap ones (cheaper than the make your own kits) and put my own jokes (funny to me!) and small personal gifts e.g. earrings, lip gloss, cuff links, ear buds, mascara.

Gluten free bought cake seems to be tooth achingly sweet these days. Often the bread is too. No idea why.

Lava lamp for one of the kids. Broken and a faff to return

Whipped Brie 🤢
Like a little pot of dipping semen for the table.
Absolutely repulsive 🤮

But doesn’t 100% cotton needs lots of ironing!

Who on earth irons bedding?

Sorry, not read the rest of the thread but holes in cotton tops is moths for sure. Put some old fashioned mothballs in your drawer or wardrobe.

Moths cannot eat pure cotton. Cheap cotton yarn made of short fibres snaps easily.

Do Moths Eat Cotton Clothes? (And How to Stop Them)

Read to learn if moths eat cotton clothes and exactly how to stop them from pestering your wardrobe, plus tips to prevent future infestation.

Disappointing for me but moreso for my brother who was the one who bought them all:

A ton of Japanese sweets/confectionary/drinks etc that he bought from an asian food shop near him - almost ALL of the products were sold to him veryyy out of date. He was understandably upset as he was excited to give them to us since we love trying new/interesting foods. (I assured him it was ok and not his fault ofc).

If it had been 1 or 2 things, then yeah no big deal, as I know things can get missed in a shop, but he'd bought TONS of stuff for me and my partner each, and it was almost every single thing. I feel like the shop surely must've known 😕

Hypoallergenic earrings for DD, apparently made of medical grade stainless steel and coated in gold. Nope, flared her ears up and still recovering.

Where from please? My daughter got some too and I am now nervous to put them in as her ears are sensitive anyway, hence going for the hypoallergenic.

I’m sorry it was repulsive, but this really made me laugh.

Robot hoover
Carefully considered,.well researched for the best value product. Reviews all top notch.

It's as useful as dog shit

Won't link up.to the app, doesn't really suck anything up, constantly crashing into stuff, obsessed with spending most of its time concentrating on just one particular small area, when it ventures beyond this area it aims for where wires are, needs persistently rescuing from being tangled in said wires, can't ever find its own docking base to recharge itself, can't program it to perform 'cleans' at scheduled times because it wont link up to the app

It was supposed to help make the household chores easier. But it was just a massive expensive waste of my secret santa gift as it needs constant supervision and assistance. It's like a baby just learning to toddle.

SafetyLady · 05/01/2025 00:24

Be careful to check. If it's rated for USA power supply at 120v, they'd also need something to bring the UK 240v supply down too (transformer? adaptor with step down convertor?). Just using a plug adaptor could cause a fire.
