Bought beautiful new bedsheets. Reduced in the sale, gorgeous colours with toadstools on them, felt ok in the shop.
Got them home, washed them and they have gone shiny 🤬 like the kind of static shiny so that your duvet ends up in a weird shape and you're rolled up like a stuck sweating pig.

Am absolutely gutted (and furious 😠) and hoping a trip to Homesense will cure me of my wierd shiny-bedsheet-hate.

Remembered another one. A friend bought me a beautifully thick, soft blanket scarf from Fatface. It's so cosy but it sheds fluff everywhere. There's fluff on my car seat, on DH's car seat, on the sofa, on the plant I brushed past yesterday, on the coats it was hanging next to in the utility. Even kept spitting bits of fluff out whilst wearing it.

It's unwearable.

GreySloth · 05/01/2025 11:25

Yeah I am new to this and working it out. There was no need to be rude.

I bought one of the old school weighted tape dispensers this year from a pop up Christmas shop for a couple of ££. Best buy of Christmas.

Having a drawer full of sellotape rolls which are terrible and frustrating to use I keep promising myself I'll buy a good old fashioned heavy dispenser (honestly I have far more serious life issues going on right now) it makes me think why didn't I accidentally take home that weighty one in the stationery cupboard when I left my last office job.

😋

The above is a half serious and half light-hearted post. I have never stolen anything I'm my life........ although there was that one absentminded occasion in Poundland 🤔

Me? I wasn’t being rude. You’d just be more likely to get answers on a specific thread, rather than jumping in to someone else’s with an irrelevant question. If you want to know how, I’d be happy to help.

Bosh. Cool cup.

Lid leaks & can’t sip out of it without sloutering contents all over the place.

Terrible design and really disappointed with the shop that sold it to me.

‘No leaks - it’s for the car’ was literally my only ask.

Contigo travel mugs (they sell them on Amazon) are the best. Absolutely no leaks, I just sling them in my handbag upside down or whatever.

Very annoying. Could you put it through the wash, even a delicates or wool cycle? With an extra rinse added, that should hopefully make it usable.

JMSA · 05/01/2025 11:57

Gosh, the Crimpit seems fairly unanimous in its crapness.
Not that you'd know it from seeing it on social media!

I borrowed a Dyson Airwrap from my sister/her friend.

Worked great to begin with, but they aren’t the most resilient. Spilled a tiny bit of wine on them and now they are just a glorified paperweight.

If it was borrowed and you accidentally broke it, did you replace it?

Anything a supermarket delivers with a short date you should request a refund for. Can still eat it too!
Its against the law to drink anything whilst driving the UK. Even stationary in traffic.
My unfortunate buy. A Wensleydale cheese from Sainsbury's with dried fruit and peel. Tasted like Christmas pudding! When I fancied a bit of cheese 😥

Really? https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/aa-clarifies-driving-laws-eating-8124994 Nope.

AA clarifies law on eight common driving behaviours

From leaving the interior light on, to eating while driving and even what you hang from your rear-view mirror

If you do , put it in an old pillowcase ( fasten with a ponytail band or knot it) that you don't mind throwing out , otherwise all that fluff will get into your machine .
You'd be forever picking sludgey fluff from the seal or it'll be on your next wash forever more !

Crikeyalmighty · 05/01/2025 12:40

@Rosscameasdoody yes the cocktail sausages coming out too- I agree about party food tasting the same - I used to love it but totally gone off it - and that's the higher end stuff too . I was busy eating a Yule log with crème fraiche and just thought -actually what I fancy isan old fashioned Sara Lee Black Forest gateau!!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/01/2025 12:45

Along the lines of the much maligned Crimpet
I bought a set of those Toastie Pocket things from Lakeland , you make up your sandwich , push into the toaster pouch while keeping it in order and place in the toaster .
It took a good couple of cycles to get anything near a toasted sandwich and it wasn't worth the effort .
They are easy enough to wash then I stood them on the drainer to dry .
But you have to use thin bread , I don't use butter so my sandwiches tend to fall apart .

Easier just to drag the Breville out of the cupboard of doom.

Try Smash. They do properly leak free cups. I put mine in my work badge with my work laptop. Might be a little fiddly to open when driving though.

Contigo ones are brilliant

No, and I also wore gold sleepers permanently. But other earings, no. Apart from anything else, the shafts dig in at night!

You can definitely wear earrings all the time, as you do with other piercings. I'm sensitive to most metals so all of mine are titanium. I couldn't sleep with normal earring backs and used to forget to put them back in in the morning. Then had a revelation and bought titanium flat back studs. Comfortable to sleep in and I don't react to the metal. You can buy hoops too. They are slightly thicker posts than "normal" earrings, but not uncomfortably so (I went for 18g, although you could try 20g which are smaller).

AhBiscuits · 05/01/2025 13:33

I got mine back when they were called Crimpie. It was after a Google image search, hoping for sandwich inspiration, that the reason for the rebrand became apparent.

I had one bite then threw the thing away - Waitrose Pistachio Tiramisu.

Their own brand salted butter was divine tbf

Crikeyalmighty · 05/01/2025 13:41

@70isaLimitNotaTarget I make easy toasted sandwiches in the air fryer- doesn't do that breville sealed thing but I'm ok with that as those tend to burn my mouth with Uber hot filling

By putting more than the maximum weight of dry laundry in ?

Whoever weighs it, I just put it in ! Years of experience.

Which side didn't have a boarder?! That must have looked odd indeed.

It was the top border. As you can see the photos show it folded over (which I don't do) so I couldn't tell. It just looked wrong to me.

I bought DS1 a Crimpit as a little stocking filler. I agree with all of the PP who say it is far too small and dies not work.

I have just re-bought the Clarks Unlooped slip on shoes. I have had three previous pairs which were very comfortable and fit well. They must have redesigned the mould for the shoes because despite being exactly the same size, and width fitting as all of the previous pairs, my new pair are enormous and my feet come out of them as I walk. I am gutted.

I have just ordered a Shark Lift Away that was on sale for £129 from Asda. It arrives on Tuesday to replace my trusty twelve year old Dyson DC33. I am very worried that it will be a disappointment.

I have a shark and really like it
I didn't like my Henry or my Dyson cordless
Henry kept falling over, my dad saw me kick him and whisked Henry away muttering comforting things to him and loves him

You can damage clothes from doing too much in a wash load.

Don't put other clothes in the wash load if washing jeans or coats as the clothes get snagged on the zips, metal bits etc.

Turn them inside out and zip up if they have snaggy bits.

You can buy laundry bags made out of net fabric for items with many zippers, for bras and anything else that could destroy other laundry. Then you can still wash everything together. Alternatively, you can use old pillow covers but the net fabric lets more water through.
