Bought beautiful new bedsheets. Reduced in the sale, gorgeous colours with toadstools on them, felt ok in the shop.
Got them home, washed them and they have gone shiny 🤬 like the kind of static shiny so that your duvet ends up in a weird shape and you're rolled up like a stuck sweating pig.

Am absolutely gutted (and furious 😠) and hoping a trip to Homesense will cure me of my wierd shiny-bedsheet-hate.

@Needanewname42 Keter ones are brilliant! We’ve been storing sofa cushions in ours for almost 4 years and they’re bone dry, no issues. We have the 870l one, definitely worth the money.

@HopefulElle do they keep out creepy crawlies - namely, all spiders?

@lucylulululu Japanese food might have a best before date 賞味期限 if it's long life but the date might be quite soon after manufacturing. It should be ok to eat although the quality might not be perfect.

The use by 消費期限 date is when the food is supposedly not good to eat. I've copied and pasted characters so Google shoumikigen if they don't display properly. Maybe you can still enjoy the food.

Maybe start a thread?

If the person is new to this, he wouldn’t be likely to know what a thread is, let alone how to start one!

Well, you and I and countless others all seem to have managed to work it out.

I bought a set of expensive fancy red bath towels.
Washed them before I hung them in the bath.
One towel has immediately frayed at the end.
You just can’t have nice things.

I'd take them back, it couldn't have been stitched properly

My 30 year old son left the plastic tray the chicken came in then put it in the oven. He ended up going out into the street and stopping a fire engine as he thought he was going to blow up his whole apartment block! The FB laughed at him. So did I.

Yes, we are au fait with it now but I expect we were just as befuddled at first. Give him a break!

A Sweaty Betty hoody that I bought in the sale, washed once at 40 degrees and half the logo melted off.

Find these days that high price does not =quality.

Very useful thread. Was considering a few things to buy.

I always really wanted a shark flex until I tried my friends. It wouldn’t grip my hair, created a ton of frizz and my normally curl holding hair (for days!) dropped the curls in a couple of hours 😐

Hope you gave it back lol.

Bignanna · 04/01/2025 19:37

How can you overfill ?

By putting more than the maximum weight of dry laundry in ?

I've decided to go back to a70s/80s theme next Xmas - giving the modern pre made party food a miss . smoked salmon, a good ham, good-bread , nice cheese, prawn cocktails, olives, and make some homemade volauvents , sausage rolls, and cheese and pineapple on sticks plus homemade trifle, fresh fruit salad and a Black Forest gateau

Sounds delicious. If it’s 1970’s you’ve got to have quiche too, and also cocktail sausages on sticks !! I’ve gone back to similar at NYE get togethers for the last couple of years after some really disappointing (and expensive) experiences with the supermarket stuff. It all seems to taste the same.

Crimson5 · 05/01/2025 09:29

Anything a supermarket delivers with a short date you should request a refund for. Can still eat it too!
Its against the law to drink anything whilst driving the UK. Even stationary in traffic.
My unfortunate buy. A Wensleydale cheese from Sainsbury's with dried fruit and peel. Tasted like Christmas pudding! When I fancied a bit of cheese 😥

It’s worth looking in charity shops for a big old sellotape dispenser. The tiny ones they make nowadays are rubbish. Our one is really weighty and makes wrapping so easy! Charity shops round here seem to have them a lot.

I bought one of the old school weighted tape dispensers this year from a pop up Christmas shop for a couple of ££. Best buy of Christmas.

VirginiaCreepers · 05/01/2025 09:35

Another fan of a heavy tape dispenser. Mine is full of sand (can hear it sloshing around) and weighs just under 1.5 kilos 😍

Similar to the OP, I treated myself to some Egyptian cotton bedding from John Lewis. First disappointment was the border only went round three sides which was craftily hidden in the photos. Secondly, it felt freezing and crunchy when I first got into it. The feeling wore off fairly quickly but the damage was already done. Finally, over the first night a black stain appeared (like felt tip pen) right in the middle. It appears this may have been spider poo and no amount of washing, Vanish, bleach or hanging out in sunshine has got it out. It makes me sad every time I look at it.

Which side didn't have a boarder?! That must have looked odd indeed.

It is NOT against the law to drink/eat anything whilst driving.

Google it.

What make was this one please? Just so I know not to buy as that sounds nice & something I'd buy lol

this one but i think thats the shop name not the make as they have them on ebay too. honestly it was awful. i could still smell it when i was eating later that day and i could not eat because of it. i felt so ill. i love the smell of candy cane and my local wax melt lady shut up shop early to spend time with her family and i couldnt get what i wanted from her so bought that.... i will stock up early next year to avoid disapointment because never had an issue with her melts and when i was burning them my teens smelt them from upstairs.

I bought DS1 a Crimpit as a little stocking filler. I agree with all of the PP who say it is far too small and dies not work.

I have just re-bought the Clarks Unlooped slip on shoes. I have had three previous pairs which were very comfortable and fit well. They must have redesigned the mould for the shoes because despite being exactly the same size, and width fitting as all of the previous pairs, my new pair are enormous and my feet come out of them as I walk. I am gutted.

I have just ordered a Shark Lift Away that was on sale for £129 from Asda. It arrives on Tuesday to replace my trusty twelve year old Dyson DC33. I am very worried that it will be a disappointment.
